It's funny you said middle child for our generation bc now days no one talks about us they skip right over us all you hear from the young crowd is baby boomers. Those were our parents their grandparents. They never mention us. Idk if it's bc they think we are the boomers or if it's bc we were the transition from the boomer ways to their way.
@@charlesgreer2847 I simply think they don't mention us is because they know how awesome we are! But just wait ..their children will be doing to us what they are doing to the boomers. All in time, man
@@charlesgreer2847 I mean, remember when we were teens? We looked up to the boomers a lot! The Woodstock generation! We knew we couldn't mess with em. However, the earlier generation couldn't stand us and we couldn't stand them.
I graduated in 1985 and school was pretty much like this. We had a smoking area. We drank beer at football games in the parking lot. Even carried guns in pickup trucks.. No one cared and no one got shot or killed. different times for sure..
1988 for me u right had guns in back window smoked cigarettes and just had fun music was a big thing for me I played in bands and still do alot of songs we play tske me back
Class of 89 here. What I love about our generation is we never took ourselves too seriously & were able to laugh at ourselves. Today's kids are like 60yr olds in teenage bodies, so serious & constantly judging everyone but themselves
DZ302, Still laugh @ myself, and make the best uv bringing in realness to Facebook, by exchanging emails and even cell nos.# with all my 25 railroader FB pals.....🚂🚃🚃🚂
That is wrong assessment, when you were teenagers you did not have whole world judging you, there may be 50 people who actually knows you and out of those 50 you may be close to 3 or 4 people, now with all the social media and stuff, kids now a a days being scrutinize for every step they take, hence make them more aware.
The clothes. The cars. The music. The energy. The hair. The 80s. The beauty and originality of people in that era was definitely something to be grateful for. Then came the 90s. They too were awesome but as an adult I can honestly say it was the beginning of the end. And though I enjoyed my path of growth and can appreciate the progress of man. I somehow desperately wish for this vibe and standard of life would make a comeback. I’m a person who is literally afraid of the future ,looking at how freely we give away and destroy what makes us human. Like valuing family, friends and the experiences we have with them in the time given. I pray for our world. We’ve come a long way from the variety the 80s gave us. Heaven only knows what we’re heading for in the next 20 years
@@kralik2002sg so well, put class of ‘88 I know exactly what your saying the 80’s feel ended around 1992..then a very slow darkness started setting in….
I graduated HS in '84, and college in '88. My kids are 19 and 22. I feel so sorry for them that they did not have such happy times as we had. The experience of youth is very different today.
the earth wont be the same in 20 years. the rapture is about to happen, then 7 years of tribulation, that will be hell on earth. then Jesus comes back for the 1000 year reign. which will be like the 80s but even better!! i cant wait!
One thing I can definitely generalize about growing up in this era and is obvious in this video as well: growing up as a teen in the mid to late 80s was like the Wild, Wild West. You were on your own. No parents checking up on you (no cell phones, no tracking devices). We were like feral cats. We didn’t realize how much freedom we had. We were drinking beers after practice. Such a crazy and fun time to grow up.
I couldn't agree more. We were on our own and it was FANTASTIC! I graduated in '93 and watching this brings back so many happy memories and I feel grateful for having experienced it all.
50 here... We had our problems, but kids were happy back then...you can see it... Have you seen High School kids now or like the past 20 years or so?? ...sad and lost. Internet happened... I don't think we can fix it...
I was the kind of guy that hardly ever look back. Now I start to understand what was lost forever, and really appreciate what we had. Thanks for sharing.
I’m the same as you . It is a very strange bittersweet feeling watching this. Reminds me of a time we will never get back. We never realize what we had until it’s gone
What the hell you guys talking about 😂 if youre talking about that false stuff that before cellphone people were more sociable Dude everyone in this video are sociable with their friends and people they know. Just like today 😆 If they were strangers. The confident laid back social people would start a convo. And the shy introvert would act like he is reading a book or blank stare at a wall or floor Today 2022 same thing 😆 confident laid back sociable people start conversations with strangers. Shy introvert hide themselves behind a phone lol
@@luckyvet I don't agree. Both parties are against the people. We have been silently invaded without even a war. We have been lied to by both parties. There is no right choice. Voting is a sham. Globalism and Marxism has been in the works since the Hart Cellar Act in 1965.
It's not cell phone. Cell phones are an amazing technology and kids communicate with each other just fine...if not better. Our downfall has been the indoctrination of an anti traditional Americana into today's youth.
@@iluvamokabodengyoza yes I agree. The indoctrination of the anti-traditional American life has ruined this lifestyle we used to have. It's really sad. But I also agree that cell phones did mess up a lot of things. Without cell phones we wouldn't have all these social media sites/apps like Twitter, Facebook, Tick Tock ruining the youth. Too much crap out there these days.
I'm 55 and you're right they have been our downfall we made it fine without cell phones in school and we had a lot better time too. I wish the whole internet would crash to be honest. I know that's how a lot of people earn a living but people learn to living without all that too
This video has no price... As a HS grad of 94, life is summed up to a T in this video.. The Mustangs, IROC's and Trans-Ams doing burnouts... The girls with mall bangs, which I miss, and yes, us guys, when we had hair, rolling with the mullets because that's what we did in those days... What I love the most is there were no cell phones... Yes, we had to physically interact back then, and it was great... I miss those days
I'm a teenager with social issues and I honestly start tearing up when i see videos from the 80's and 90's people seemed so social back then without social media and stuff
I’m teenager as well, makes me tear up too. We can bring this time back, it starts with us. Start embodying this video!!! It is possible to bring this time period back to life!
@@leahnichole2361 Start off by deleting all social media ( yes I know I’m a hypocrite for saying that because I’m using RU-vid at the moment lol) and taking care of your health. Sleeping enough, drinking enough water, exercising, not eating junk. It starts with us!
Nothing can ever be the same again. There was an innocence lost. I feel for your generation because I see that things are miserable. If you want to be happy, seek the God of the Bible and do what He says is right. Live simply and don't be a slave to the culture and tech. That was why we were much happier then.
I graduated in 91 and these were fun times. We also had hard times for sure. Mental health help wasn't a thing so ppl still had their suffering and there was the stuck up kids also who snubbed those who they considered "lesser than". Teens really don't change too much decade to decade, of course. They/we just have/had different means of socializing and doing things, that's all. The main thing I notice in this vid is that no one had their heads down in their phones. They didn't exist. Everyone is talking with each other. It's all we had :) I do love the tech today and the music and clothing styles etc. Hell yeah. I'm the first to get new tech when it comes out, fr. I refuse to get the mindset that today's media and so on is awful cuz it's not. Not at all.
I know, back then we had our problems but we also were care free and had fun. Kids today are so sensitive and crippled with anxiety and depression .. it’s sad
We adopted a more "life is about having fun" outlook back then. Nowadays, people are always just looking for the bad and that is what makes them anxious and depressed. It doesn't have to be like that. Every generation has problems, but they also choose their perspective. We chose to see the joy in life.
Graduated in '89, in Germany but it was more or less the same. Same clothing, same hair styles, boy meets girl, girl meets boy, etc etc and no one, absolutely no one was aware how beautiful they were and how fragile life can be. Love this video so much cos it's a kinda time machine for me ❤️
as a person born in 2000, i am truly sad about nowadays since i found what the past would have had to offer. true freedom. no phones that hear you talking and control the ads and prices you see based on what you would be willing to pay. no cars that think they know how to drive better... you still could make a life without having to study some stupid thing. you could make your won hands pay a good livings wage. this video is like an intro to a tv series, showing the best of whats to come. the people are all so unique and symphathetic!
The eighties were my late teens and twenties. Such a wonderful time to be young. America was in great shape and Americans were very happy. The metal and concerts of the day were true events to experience. They will never ever be the same or even come close. I remember them like they were yesterday, I miss them like they were a 1,000 years ago. God-bless the eighties nation. God's favorite decade.
Fellow '89er here. Never met anyone in this video, yet I feel a stronger connection with them than with most of the people I pass walking down the street in 2020.
The nation had turned a momentous corner in 1980, crushing the inflation disaster, stemming the growth of government, lowering taxes and returning to healthy, sustained economic growth.
@@nathantowne2055 Everyone was productive and each member played a vital role in society. Nowadays, jobs on the market have a glut so wages are low and housing has increased.
This is so awesome. I see a lot of people I knew back then as an 87' graduate from Jericho. Brought a lot of tears and smiles. Those were wonderful times... some of the best. Time goes awful fast.
have you not seen every teenage girl and girl in their 20’s and early thirties with the exact old style denim jeans on? Guys with graphic tees and jeans rolled up with some type of high top or mid top shoe
Smells like teen spirit came out late 91. As an old guy never have I ever seen a more rapid about face in youth culture and style. One semester it was 80s hair metal, the next everyone is wearing flannel.
Growing up in the 80's / 90's was literally the Wild Wild West. No social media, no cell phones, and no tracking devices. You were literally on your own, all we had was creativity, and vibes to thrive on and that was more than enough.
I was 4 and my dad would’ve been 29 living his best life in college raising me. He died this year and I miss him so much. I miss the 90s. Cell phones and social media have ruined things
i literally cried i don’t know any single one of em but the smiles on their faces the crazy times happy moments , imagine how many of them have died and many getting old and even older..... what a life

These videos are quite nostalgic for obvious reasons. But I get that warm feeling watching this because I had parents to take care of me in 1989. I had my DJ equipment, house music, family, cousins, Chicago Cubs and playing baseball & basketball all day long in the summer for hours on end. These kids have these big and bright smiles, their music was perfect, their films were better, their futures ahead of them. The heartbreak that would come, the joy, the good, the bad. How many “made it?” How many passed on? And you know what? I’d take it all again in a heartbeat. Even the bad. That’s how good the 80s were for me as a kid. I see my kids now, 10 years old and I love having them home as a dad and parent but sometimes I think to myself, all they have is their iPad. My boy plays baseball but in any case. Don’t let anyone tell you those times weren’t different because they were. Parents let their kids play outside until it was dark, unsupervised many times. I can appreciate all the tech and stuff we have now, but it comes at an expense…creativity and dreaming. Happy New Year guys.
I was class of 91 in Texas. The northern accents were cracking me up. Crazy to think we are hitting 50 yrs old now. Forever Young!!! We smoked cigs and it was okay I guess sorta like vaping these days. Thank you for taking me back to such great times - When life was so much better! No internet, no cell phones, straight guys wore pink and everyone talked to each other. Wish someone had thought to do this at my school. Then again, It's not like we walked around with huge camcorders taking random videos. These kids are lucky someone did this. We were happy and life in America was awesome!
@Candy Smith They are absolutely lucky someone did this. I tell my kids all the time how lucky they are that the big important moments in their lives can be easily videoed (and in SUPER high quality!) That was not the case for our generation most of the time. All we have are faded photos, grainy VHS tapes (if we’re lucky), and memories.
@@spencerrye3885 Yes, our kids are lucky in that aspect, but technology has ruined many things too. I would not trade spots with them for what I got to live through with HS in the late 80's/early 90's.😁
I'm a junior and I don't have that at all ;( don't get me wrong, I have so many friends, but only one that I would consider a best friend in my grade. I'm friends with all seniors and I'm not graduating with one of them. Not to mention the toxicity between the students and the teachers is atrocious. Makes me so sad

@@mr_m4613 This is true. The internet and cell phones made some great improvements in life, but with it came some great sacrifices we can never get back. The people who didn't live it will never truly understand.
@X Ennial Probably because the 80s didn't have global media accessed at your finger tips at any moment of your life. You can't see how the world is revolving at every second, so the 'bad' doesn't seem to move forward fast. It only seems like it is worse now simply because of that, we know whenever something bad happens, within minutes of it happening. at all times.
Gen X 4 Life. Love you all. I graduated on the other side of the country and can relate to every moment of this video. We all can who grew up then. We are bonded for life as we grew up in the best generation. Just the right amount of technology and free
This may be Jericho High School, 1989 but, this was ANY given high school in the United States during the 80s. I too graduated in 1989, not from Jericho HS but does it matter? This was a magical time and an even more magical decade. Our generation was SO LUCKY! WE truly were the last generation before all of the INSANITY surfaced and became what I would consider to be intolerable. I have a son who is now headed into his senior year of high school and one that graduated in 2022. I never saw the bonds or the same level of being able to just be a teenager for them...nothing close to what we had in the 80s. Technology, politically correct b.s., COVID, ugh...it all felt nightmarish to me as I watched my boys go through it. I, for one, am so glad I was born in the early 70s and was able to go through high school in the 80s. It truly WAS the end of an era...an AWESOME ERA!
I graduated in '89 - not this school but it looks almost identical! Of course I was one of the odd-ball theater kids listening to The Cure and cutting out early to smoke. So I never made any yearbook pics at my school and likely wouldn't have been on this video either-haha. Here's a shout out to all the other non-jocks from the 80's! :)
I can relate. I have never fit in a day in my life. I've always disliked sports... spent my days listening to and playing music. Hey, at least we didn't follow the herd!
Notice how many healthy fit teenagers there are. Very very few overweight. And amazing how much older the teenagers looked back then compared to today where most high school kids today would look like middle scholers back then.
This was an awesome step back in time video ! I'm going to be turning 55 this month. I graduated in 1985. I miss those days ! I'm so glad I got to experience growing up in the 80s. It was a great era !Thank you so much for this video.🙂😎

looks like every movie made in the 80's................I graduated in 1990...........high school was actually just like this, and it was a great time to grow up. We had lots of fun. Fast cars, fast women and the world ahead of us. The 80's were awesome. I wish kids now could live like we did but unfortunately the world has changed for the worse.
Brandon Thompson I don't remember being able to drink beer on campus, but we did have a smoking section where students were allowed to smoke............crazy.
I graduated in 91'. My HS was just like this too. I miss the hell out of how things were. When I watch this, it makes me smile, but very depressed at the same time.
Mullet or no mullet - the choice was yours when you got your haircut in the 80s. lol In all seriousness, I turned 17 in 1989; the 80s were definitely a simpler, more care-free time.
Nah, don't be fooled. A video yearbook is literally just a highlight reel (similar to what social media is today). Of course it's not gonna mention the higher rates of teen pregnancy, suicides, school shootings, drug use, etc. These videos were recorded to be an idealized view of life as a teen, not a realistic one.
Those of us fortunate enough to have live in these amazing times . Know what it was to be happy , truly happy . The Happy Days .Watching gives me TEARS and LAUGHTER all at the same time .GOOSEBUMPS. There was still some innocent fun . Now everything is just so VULGER ..WOW
I was born in 97 and even in the early 2000’s, I remember having a simple and happy childhood. Always played outside with my friends or played with toys/dolls and played games that involved using our imagination. iPhones and social media took over and I see kids as young as 8 glued to a screen for hours instead of enjoying the world around them. So so sad. Just deleted my Instagram today just so I can have less distractions
Same born in 98. My sister is 11 years younger than me and her childhood is very different from mine. She says all the time that she’s jealous of my childhood. I feel so bad for her. Adults got to enjoy their youth then ruined it for every generation that came after. Heartbreaking
Hey, I was born in 97 too, i too remember having an amazing childhood with a simple life, go outside and play till the sun went down. It was amazing times till 07. But after that even my kid brain could comprehend that things were changing and not for the better. I just didn't have the same fun of the early 2000s. And now ........well............its just worse isn't it?
Man those were the days. I know a big part of it was because I was younger back then. But when I look back on it the music, movies, parties, more freedom's no lockdowns, travel anywhere you want, it was a blast. People were different as well more engaging in conversations without social media interference getting in the way. It was a different time and way better in a lot of ways.
Reminds me of my older sisters and their big hair, and going to football games and concerts when I was 6 years old in 1989. Times indeed have changed. Kids had way more school spirit back in these days.
Seeing this makes me wish I was born in the 70's life looks fun no worries it looks like they're truly living their best lives. Wish life was still like this but the internet..😬
Lol yes life was great if you were young, I was paying a mortgage and working 2 jobs. Be grateful your parents worked hard so you can enjoy your luxuries.
I’m about to be a senior in high school. This really makes me realize how quickly these years go by. It’s scary. I just hope that we have a normal school year this year that way we can have one final chance to make memories like this. Jericho is an upper middle class area in Long Island. It resembles a HS I went to in the Midwest except that Jericho HS appears to have been mostly Jewish. In college, I had many friends from the area but didn't realize that Jewish kids were the clear majority of the HS population.
Yeh no I went to the middle school (Jericho middle school) and was quite familiar with the hs as my freinds and I used to hang out there, and even though it looks the same it's very different in terms of vibe and energy, its definitely gone down over the years
