Would love to have either one. In my opinion the Lincoln was a better build car. I’d be driving away in the Lincoln.

Since I am an almost 60 year continuous Cadilliac owner, I prefer the Brougham. However, I also a huge fan of Lincolns. The only thing I would have changed about the Lincoln is the taillights. On these types of large luxury cars I think the taillights look better if they extend beyond the trunk. The days of beautiful cars are long long gone!

On the town car, the stainless rocker trim was not an option, but was an indicator of trim levels. The signature and Cartier came with the lower stainless rocker trim while the base has only a simple chrome bottom rocker trim. So you know at the very least it is a signature or Cartier if the wide stainless rocker trim is present

I was always a GM car boy/teen/man but have had a Ford or two in my (cough cough) sixtyi-ish years of my life...but I have to give my vote to the Town Car here. Something about the size of it I think. Or maybe I've turned an old leaf because I currently own a TC? But both choices here are great examples of their time (and that's due to who owns them).

Anthony's lucky that he's found a job. Made a career out of taking and loving and restoring these cars. So that people can enjoy these cars there are very few of them still out there. That he is out there searching for these vehicles to bring to us to either perhaps buy?

I love both. I’ve always wanted an 80’s Lincoln Towncar. I do believe 89 was probably the best year for the 80’s Lincoln Towncar, however several things annoy me; I never liked the rear end tail light appearance when they made the change in 85 I think and also why did they not have a digital climate control, still using the sliders. I had friends who had 91 Cadillac Brougham’s, I loved those too, they felt bigger and the classic style was still amazing. Tough choice to make now, both amazing in their own rights.

Growing up in the 70s/80s in the Detroit suburbs, being the ‘company town’ it was for the Big 3- the streets were lousy with Cadillacs and Lincolns. Drive by the country clubs there and the valets would park the car brands together- looooong line of broughams loooong line of town cars- a few sevilles and Eldos, a couple of contintentals and tiny sections for jags and SL convertible Mercedes (rich wives under 60 drove those). Can’t remember seeing a BMW or an Audi!

Anthony on that Lincoln Town Car when you're showing the window door locks and seat controls, one thing many people don't know is that little space at the end of the plate for the windows where there's nothing there was for the seat memory option that was spec'ed for these cars but never implemented. If you remove that switch bezel from the door and turn it upside down you will see in that empty space at the end of the bezel there's two screw slots and a mounting Square for the seat memory switch which for some reason never made it to production. Just an interesting footnote to those cars. Of another interesting note if you take a seat memory switch from any 90's Ford it fits into that slot perfectly and bolts right up

My grandparents drove Lincolns in the 70s, 80s and 90s. My parents, on the other hand, drove Cadillacs from the 80s, 90s and 00s. I think I prefer the way the Lincolns of this era ran and sounded. Interestingly, my father, a transmission rebuilder and master mechanic always complained about not liking the way 'Ford brakes' felt. 😂 On a long haul highway drive, I think the Cadillac is nearly impossible to beat, from a comfort perspective. Also, I think the Lincoln is perhaps more technologically more advanced, but I remember the Cadillacs having automatic level ride. All-in-all, its a close one, but I think I have to roll with the Caddy. If we're talking early 60s cars, I would vote Lincoln all day.

Along with those old school bodies, is the Chrysler Fifth Ave. Does not have the options as these two but for that soft ride, carburated 318, it's a classic look. Midsize compared to the two it was an option for those who did not want a super large car but opulence.
@Dac54
@Dac54 День назад
One thing that the 1989 and late 1988 Chrysler Fifth Avenue had that was unavailable in both the Cadillac and the Lincoln was a driver's side airbag. I also preferred the analog gauge cluster of the Chrysler to the digital readout on the other vehicles. The Fifth Avenue was just as comfortable as the Cadillac and the Lincoln; it's too bad that Chrysler saw fit to end production of their rear drive models after the 1989 model year. The front drive New Yorkers and Imperials were nice-looking and well-appointed, but they really weren't comparable to the Cadillac Brougham or the Lincoln Town Car.

I have a soft spot for the Brogham -I had an '88 Olds 307 powered in that exact color combination, navy blue vinyl top with optional velour pillowed seating that was oddly not the base pattern-kinda similar to the Olds 98 Brogham style pillowed seating -They were extremely comfortable. That Town car though is probably the coolest of the two just from the standpoint of all the fun to play with gizmoes! Reminded me of my '02 Continental that was similarly hard loaded with every option including a moonroof, center console with the CD changer, auto dimming -all kinds of fun trinkets to break🤣 Was a much better driver too than most of my Cadillacs. Great 2 piece combo you have here to display. Excellent detail work showcasing both this way -very unique comparison! Cheers guys😉

Anthony, there's two things you didn't mention about the Brougham: the trash bin under the glove box that Lincoln didn't offer, and with the Brougham's touch-control HVAC, there was a special sequence of buttons you could press to display CEL codes. This was a GM thing - you could short-out the first and second pins of the OBD plug-in and your CEL codes would flash the CEL itself in a particular sequence. For example, blink-blink-blink blink-blink was a 32 code. You could look up "32" in your handy Chilton manual and it would reference the MAP sensor, or the MAF sensor, or maybe the MAP light was left on. Lincoln? No such shade-tree luck; you HAD to go to the stealership. This was before O'Reilly or Auto Zone would check your CEL codes for free.

Anthony - I had the pleasure of driving both of these cars back in the day. In my opinion, the Lincoln drove better (floated) than the Cadillac. The Cadillac interior in my opinion was more luxurious than that of the Lincoln. The dash of the Lincoln again in my opinion was not as elegant as the Cadillac. I personally prefer the body style of the Cadillac over the Lincoln. I’m not a fan of the Lincoln’s extremely sharp exterior body panels. I opine the exterior of the Caddie is more elegant. That just my opinion 😊 P.S. Corning light right side of Lincoln is not working. Both are; however, beautiful examples of luxury cars of their time period.

I own one of each. I do not want to decide between the two. That why I have both. I have new vehicles but when traveling I always take either my '89 Town Car or my '92 Brougham.

That’s fantastic! I have a ‘95 Caprice and ‘11 Crown Vic. Both police models. Hands down the Crown Vic is an absolute work horse but if I want to breeze down the road effortlessly at 100 mph all day, I’d have to take the Caprice!

They are both nice cars. We had a 1989 Town Car & Lincoln change the body style for 1990. The Lincoln had a better ride quality than the Cadillac did. In my opinion when it comes down to it I would take the Cadillac. We've owned 2 Lincoln & 7 Cadillac.

Having owned an 89 Town Car Signature Series and 89 Fleetwood Brougham deElegance, it's a hard choice. The Fleetwood deElegance definitely had an edge with plush tufted velour seats. But the Town Car gave 24 mpg on highway. Would love to have both!
