Greetings to all viewers who found this video. The video portrays a 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis LS. Without a doubt, these vehicles at one time were common to see on the highways throughout the United States. However, over the last decade or so, the Mercury Grand Marquis in the video is no longer a common sight. As a result, I felt a duty to make this short video about the 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis. First, for those who remember these cars in their heyday. Second, for a new generation to learn about automotive history. Finally, it allowed me to reflect on my age and think about past times while assembling the footage. Thank you for watching, and feel free to comment below.

My dad bought a 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis just like this one, except ours was blue with blue pinstripe detailing and blue leather seats. It was a 6-seater, and the first automatic transmission car I ever drove. (We had to keep bath towels in it in the summer, to sit on when we got into it wearing shorts!) In fact, to this day it remains the only V8 car or vehicle of that size or that size engine that I have ever driven. since I am tall, I miss having that much room in the front seat, the back seat, and a joined front footwell to stretch out in. They don't make them like this anymore. Thank you so much for the video!

I had a maroon '89 just like yours, I put 250,000 trouble free miles on it and handed it down to my son. I loved that car, thank you for sharing!

I have a 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis LS 50th Anniversary Edition that has a rear trunk luggage rack . All exterior trim is gold anodized, but other than that could be a twin to your car. I believe that there were only 250 0f these Anniversary editions made. They are truly beautiful cars that run and drive great. My other two cars are a 1987 and 1991 Crown Victoria wagons both in excellent shape. Thanks for your video.

I am glad you enjoyed looking at the car. Indeed, these are excellent cars and a joy to drive. I have never seen one of the Anniversary editions; however, I knew of their existence. I owned a 1991 Ford Crown Victoria wagon a few years ago but sold the car. Thank you for watching.

My dad would take us out of his white 89 Grand Marquis back in years when I was a kid. It is currently being restored and will be shining like the day it was made. Very informative video!

I am glad you enjoyed the video. I repainted and had the vinyl roof recovered ten years ago on the car in the video. Thank you for watching.

Beautiful classic Grand Marquis LS. I once had a LTD Crown Victoria LX of that same year and color, but my father stole it. I like how it's so similar, yet a tad more luxurious than the Ford.

Hi Alan. Enjoyed watching your video of your Blue Grand Marquis LS. It is still a great looking car which should give you many more miles of good service. I have owned my Grand Marquis only since January of 2022 and do not drive it in the winter. As good as my Crown Victoria wagons ride the Mercury is superior. If you provide me with your e- mail address I will send you photos of my Grand Marquis. Thanks for the video.

I had an 86 Grand Marquis. Teal metallic with white Laundau top. Tinted windows diamond on the back sunroof top digging the scene with a gangsta lean.

I had various other Mercury Marquis's and Lincoln Town Cars over the years, but other than this one, I had sold them all. Indeed, the 1980s full-size rear-wheel-drive Fords, Mercury's, and Lincolns had class and a really comfortable ride.

@@MrAamstrom I do agree. I absolutely loved my Grand Marquis. My cousin stole it and drove it to Atlanta Georgia and parked it at the airport. When I found it, they wanted more than $800 to get it back. I didn't have enough to get it out so I left it.

Granddad had a grey one. He was county judge for 25 years. The interior smelled like Jack Daniels since that’s basically all he drank. Had a police radio in it. It was a cool car. Wish it made sense for me to get one, just no room for it.
@MrAamstrom

Indeed, there were at one time a good many of these cars on the road, but now you seldom see them. I would probably never have kept this car if my aunt had not given me the car, and she would have become angry if I sold the car.

@@MrAamstrom I probably just think it’s cool since I remember it from back in the day. But I could see it not being so interesting if I were a little older at the time. Grandma had a Lincoln Continental. They kept both of those cars clean at all times and they looked cool together.

I had the exact same car in Black years ago people call me Men in Black because of that car LOL eventually the transmission would not shift out of second gear so I just sold it for $500..... I certainly did love it though it was very luxurious and a very well built car I am a fan of Ford in general miss it so

We had a gray '89 with a full black vinyl roof in 06. We bought it for 300-500 bucks. It's been sitting since the 90s after overheating, and being caught in a tornado or hurricane which tore off the vinyl roof. Just a new battery, and it started right up even though the rings were cooked. This car got us from Pennsylvania to Chicago, and then to Los Angeles with no maintenance work. It was drinking coolant, it was chugging oil it needed everything. Everytime we stopped at the gas station we also needed to buy oil for the engine, and we'd use the carwash to fill up the rad. We continued to use it in LA, and then ended up taking it to San Antonio TX where it eventually met it's demise... due to electrical issues. It wasn't the engine that killed after everything it'd been through, but the damn wiring. Windsors are no joke. The ignition was stuck on so you couldn't turn it off without disconnecting the battery, the domelight was on 24/7, the windows stopped working, the seats stopped working, the mirros were all stuck in the up position, the horn had to be disconnected, and eventually the starter died. Man that engine - that car! I still daydream about those comfy soft seats. This is my ultimate dream car - hope they don't pump up in value like most of the yachts. Here's a picture of it overheating somewhere in Nevada, Utah, or Colorado. imgur (dot) com/a/0OM9SC7 . I miss this ratty POS.

I apologize for my slow response, but I have been quite busy. Also, thank you for sharing your story about the Grand Marquis you owned and the cars adventures. Indeed, these cars were good and at one time plentiful, but I do not see many anymore. Currently, all cars to me seem overpriced and I do not understand why the prices do not start to come down; however, as long as people keep paying the prices there will be no end in sight.

My frame is welded just the same with those snot welds! Also, look into replacing the plastic bushing on the transmission kickdown cable below the throttle body. Those things always disintegrate and cause the trans to fail early.

@MrAamstrom

Indeed, you are correct about the frame repair unless you want to remove the body from the frame and are capable of metal fabrication and welding. Or, if you went through that much work, you could find a rust-free frame. Sorry to hear about your frame. Thank you for watching my videos.

Maybe its a 1988 grand marquis the 1989 came out with different dashboard.
@MrAamstrom

The car is titled 1989; however, it is possible that the car was made earlier in the model year. I will have to check tomorrow in the daylight hours when the car had been manufactured. I know a few years ago I had a 1991 Ford Country Squire station wagon that did have a different dash because the car had an airbag.

I also have a 1991 Crown Victoria wagon that has a different dash board than the eighties models. This new dash started in 1990 with the air bag and continued up to 1995.@@MrAamstrom
