The Redskins take on the Falcons in week 15 of the '89 season with fading playoff hopes on the line. After a series of early mishaps helped the floundering Falcons to a 27-10 first half lead, the Redskins went on a rapid-fire, blink and you'll miss it, 21-point third quarter rally to salvage the 31-30 victory. The win wasn't enough to preserve playoff hopes (thanks a lot, NY Jerks). Nonetheless, the victory lifted Washington to 9-6, on the way to a 10-6 finish that set the team on a winning track for the remainder of the Gibbs 1.0 era.
This would be the last Redskins appearance for Doug Williams, who did some relief work for a briefly injured Mark Rypien - long enough for Williams to toss one last TD (fittingly to Art Monk, the one receiver he didn't hit up for a score in SB XXII). This was also the final match-up vs the Falcons in their now-retired red uniforms (not counting retro uni games). This might have been the Skin's first match-up against some guy named Sanders as well.
From long-gone Fulton County Stadium, it's Tim Bryant and Dan Jiggerts (yes, THE Dan Jiggerts) on the call for the penultimate game of the '89 season. (We use words like "penultimate" on this channel. La-de-da, people.)
