As for most Disney attractions Splash Mountain had a soft opening! This is all the known footage from it.
However this soft opening is very interesting as it features multiple things that didnt make it into the final ride.
Here is a detailed description of everything that is unique to the soft opening:
The giggling Brer Rabbit animatronic before the drop into the Laughin Place has his own unique animation, it is unknown if it was ever used past the soft opening.
The “butt” Brer Bear animatronic before the drop into the Laughin Place continuously repeats “Theres nothin in here but bees” likely meaning the voicebox was glitched during the soft opening.
As seen in this video • NEW 1989 Animatronic B... , the giggling Brer Rabbit animatronic in the Laughin Place rolls around. It is possible that this also made it into the soft opening but it is unknown.
Perhaps the strangest thing to be seen in this video is “Sooner or Later” being played instead of the iconic Burrows Lament song. This was removed right before the official opening. It is also likely that as you went up the lift hill on the soft opening no instrumental played.
As seen in this video • 1989 Splash Mountain D... , there were lights in the water near the Zip-A-Dee-Lady. It is possible that this also made it into the soft opening but it is unknown.
