I remember watching this game - a game the Bills needed more than the Giants because the Bills were still in a dogfight with the Dolphins for the AFC East title (and ultimately the #1 seed in the AFC). This game truly proved the Bills can win when it mattered - that wasn't the case in '88 & '89.
Unfortunately for the Bill's and their fans they couldn't win the game that really mattered weeks later against the Giants in the SB or the 3 following SBs
Good game with some foreshadowing of what might happen later that year. One thing that surprised me was hearing the Giants fans cheer when Kelly went down injured at 8:18. It sounds like the entire stadium was cheering. Even 30 years later Giant Fan you lose points with me. It makes my skin crawl. Anyways, this was still a good game to watch agaim from a golden age of Bill's football
This wasn't uncommon back in those days. Who cares if some player got hurt. He'll heel up just fine. I miss the days of not pretending to care about people lol
That was an excellent group of linebackers. The Bills linebackers were no joke either. Cornelius Bennett, Darryl Talley, and Shane Conlan were all pro bowlers and Ray Bentley was a solid player too. The Saints had the best linebacking corps in the league back then...Pat Swilling, Rickey Jackson, Vaughan Johnson, and Sam Mills
You never will my friend. Of course Harry Carson was retired at this time. Pepper Johnson was the other inside lb with Gary Reasons in 1990. LT was still great but Banks was the best lb on this club!
@@jeremythompson9122 Imagine if the Bills had kept their old pro nose tackle Fred Smerlas after 1989 - he was the foundation of the Bills' Bermuda Triangle defense (with the 2 inside linebackers) in the early-80's. He constantly kept his fellow linebackers freed-up to make the big plays. There was one glaring weakness of the 1990 Bills that ultimately cost them the Super Bowl title - run defense was suspect. And I always felt that Smerlas' replacement Jeff Wright didn't always control the line of scrimmage. YES, the Bills had a solid linebacking core by 1990, but outside of all world defensive end Bruce Smith, the defensive line was rather suspect.
Mistakes mistakes mistakes! LT 2 dropped Ints right in his hands one for a wide open TD! He must of been severely hungover lol...Better times to come 6 weeks later 💪
There's a lot I miss about this era of football and we all like to leave our nostalgic comments, but I hope we can all agree that we still hate that concrete artificial turf.
@@bigt5699I see where you're coming from. Unlike Simms, Hostetler could run. However, Simms did play pretty well in big games (see SB 21). Maybe the Giants win SB 25 with Simms as well.
It was kind of a pussy move to run the clock down like that but The Giants had to do what they had to do to win. The Redskins beat the Bills more definitively in the following Superbowl imo. Just utter domination from beginning to end...
