I shift my hands on the wheel when I drive too. Power-sliding out of the corners wow! Great driving man! Such a bad ass car.

Very cool! Hopefully youve gotten back.out there more since. Tires wete screeching more than i expected. All season tires? They dont sound like summer tires. Two things that stand out to me is your hand position on the steering wheel (shuffle steering) and no rev-matching. I can hear the rear tires screech when you downshifted. Fix those two things and youll be even faster! Love seeing a Z32 out there! Wish more woukd go!

I understand that the Catalyst is super helpful for improving one's lap times, but an added second benefit is that the video recording with the informational overlays is a nice addition to your YT video as it helps us understand what's going on much better

I wish I could use the Catalyst data overlay on any video file, but I've only been able to get it to work with the Catalyst's video feed (which is lower quality both picture and sound). But agreed, it's helpful and interesting to see all that track data!

OMG I want that lap timer!!!! Also, I love the cloth interior. It’s way nicer than leather IMO

You seem pretty fast on this track, is the Z stock besides the brake upgrade?
@PracticalEnthusiast
@PracticalEnthusiast 2 года назад
It has some minor bolt ons making likely in the neighborhood of 350 HP. Stiffer sway bars and lowering springs help it as well.

8:06 nice recovery. also what happened as 20:00?
@PracticalEnthusiast
@PracticalEnthusiast 2 года назад
Thanks! At 20:00 I hit the brakes a little too hard when coming over the crest (car was light) which got the rear a little squirrelly.

Smooth driving. Looks like the brakes did great. How do you find the Garmin?

I thought it was really cool, but only as a tool to review after a track session. I didn't get it set up to do any real-time coaching but I think it is possible. I was a little disappointed with the video and sound quality from its recordings though.

I know its already been said, but it looks like you may have an issue with the PCV system, one its either messed up in some way (aka the check valves), second if your getting blue smoke out the exhaust its the PCV system sucking up oil on right sweepers, due to the location of the PVC ports on the drivers side exhaust valve cover
@PracticalEnthusiast
@PracticalEnthusiast 2 года назад
I'll definitely have to check out the PCV system. I don't think I replaced those valves when I went through the engine years ago.
@z32_workshop52
@z32_workshop52 2 года назад
@@PracticalEnthusiast its not valves that are the problem. its the low pickup on the ports off the exhaust valve covers. it makes so that the system can suck up oil. I do a lot of autocross and I use to have a large blue smoke cloud after long hard right sweepers. I thought I had Valve stem seals going bad, but all i had to do was look in the intake via the balance tube to see if there was oil in the intake to verify
@cambaird
@cambaird Год назад
@@z32_workshop52- agree with this comment. I was black flagged some years ago at Sonoma for a smokescreen at turn two after a long sweeper. I have since relocated the PCV valves. As you get faster and pull more g’s this is a pretty necessary modification.

Great video! I'm curious, what's your experience with the HICAS, is it installed on your Z? Does the dash light indicate when it's active, or can you tell by feel that it's working? Thanks!
@PracticalEnthusiast
@PracticalEnthusiast 2 года назад
Thanks! The HICAS is still installed this car, and it will stay that way until something breaks that can be repaired (parts are getting scarce). I like how the HICAS system operates; it keeps the rear end more planted going in and out of turns. The HICAS light doesn't illuminate when it is active. Only when it has a fault.

What are you lap tracking with? Also what do you use for editing? That was a pretty sexy focus st that let you pass lol.
@PracticalEnthusiast
@PracticalEnthusiast 2 года назад
That was done through a Garmin Catalyst, but I think there are phone apps that can do it too. Video editing is done in Final Cut Pro.
@AtiCrossfireX

Your Z32 looks stocked do you still have the EGR? I wonder if that could've caused the dip stick to pop out.

No overheating this time? I remember last time you had some issues. Did you ever figure out what it was?
@PracticalEnthusiast
@PracticalEnthusiast 2 года назад
It still got pretty hot, but there was so much traffic during this track day that I never got more than 2 laps in without having to slow the pace down. Still not sure why it is getting so hot.
@ricepony33

@@PracticalEnthusiast yeah you can hear it has a rhythmic mic issue. External option? The video is kinda washed out, but the frame rate is pretty good. I helped the develop the old Traqmate system and we did data and video. They based a lot of the catalyst off of what we were doing and some of the information we shared/proposed to them.
@PracticalEnthusiast
@PracticalEnthusiast 2 года назад
@@ricepony33 no external mic option as far as I can tell. It all has to go through the included camera. That's some interesting background on the Catalyst's development! Unfortunately, some of its limitations are hardware (like the mic and camera), but hopefully they do a software update at some point that allows you to export the telemetry data and overlay it on top of any video file.

Any more info on the dipstick issue? Did you find out why it popped out?
@ghostsmoke11
@ghostsmoke11 2 года назад
Pressure crank valves may be toast and need to be replaced. That's where I'd start since they're cheap and easy to replace.
@PracticalEnthusiast
@PracticalEnthusiast 2 года назад
I believe it's just a problem with the dipstick. It's the original one and is held in place with a molded-in rubber piece that has shrunk and hardened over time, so it fits very loosely. I'm ordering a new one which should hopefully fix the problem.

@@PracticalEnthusiast Random bit of advice you may already know: if you have to remove the oil pan for any reason, REMOVE THE DIPSICK BEFORE REINSTALLING THE OIL PAN. Just trust me.

bit of squealing from the brake pads
@toddsmith8608
@toddsmith8608 2 года назад
Likely tire squeal from my perspective.
@ghostsmoke11
@ghostsmoke11 2 года назад
@@toddsmith8608 I think it's both, he's loosing traction on his tires (the look stock size) but the brakes are noisy too. The note said the pads bedded in and they got quiet later.
@PracticalEnthusiast
@PracticalEnthusiast 2 года назад
Those pads definitely were squealing as well. They aren't loud on the street anymore thankfully, but when heated up the do get pretty loud. Happy to report that it is just cosmetic because performance-wise they held up well. Can't beat their price for track oriented pads either.
@Nismo65
@Nismo65 2 года назад
@@toddsmith8608 um i know the difference between tire squeal and brake squeal and yes there was both happening on the track. the high pitch squeal is the brakes as he entered the corners under hard braking not on the apex it's due to them not handling the heat penetrated into them. i would try putting some more grooves in the pads to help with brake debris displacement. they'll ware out a bit quicker but might stop more of the squeal and probably work a bit better. plus i think this guy would know about the anti squeal plates that fit behind the pads against the caliper pistons and using super high temp anti squeal brake grease / silastic because noise can come from there as well not just the pads against the disc's. ive done plenty of of racing in my life and been a mechanic for over 40 years. that's my perspective
@PracticalEnthusiast
@PracticalEnthusiast 2 года назад
@@Nismo65 I appreciate the tips! I put some hi-temp grease behind the pads but it might not have been quite high temp enough haha.
