Growing up in Cincinnati the Reds and Pirates played many great games, and they met in the NLCS 5 times. Hopefully both teams can regain their form because the Reds and Pirates would be a great rivalry. God Bless everyone
@@BAYAREA-kd1igthe MLB on NBC was as great as the NBA on CBS. But the MLB on CBS tanked, while the NBA on NBC took off. I think one of the reasons was the theme song. NBA on NBC: roundball rockin'. MLB on CBS: requiem. NBC had Michael Jordan and a Bulls dynasty. CBS had a World Series-cancelling lockout.
I miss the enclosed ‘cookie cutter’ stadiums. Riverfront, Three Rivers, Fulton County, Busch and the Vet made a ton of noise you just don’t get from today’s smaller opened stadiums.
Wow I must have forgot or overlooked that Bragg catch in the 9th inning. That was definitely a home run and would of gave the pirates the lead and who knows what would of happened. WOW, what a forgotten play.
My Jessica was born 2 months before this, Iraq was sitting in Kuwait and I had just left the Middle East as a military contractor. Krazee stuff, but my Reds got it done!!!
Who was the Pirates' best hitter? ... Bobby Bonilla? ... Andy Van Slyke? ... Barry Bonds? ... No ... Carmelo Martinez ... guy almost singlehandedly forced a Game 7.
The Pirates we're really good during this era. Barry Bonds,Bobby Bonilla,Doug Drabek,Andy Van slyke...etc. The Refs we're an electrifying team that caught lightning in a bottle that 1990 season. I love that Reds team. CBS baseball broadcasts were so so good and that music will always take me back to those days
It's a shame this league ruined this sport. This was the only league where you actually earned a playoff spot by winning. In all the other sports all you had to do was finish at .500 and you're in essentially. In baseball you had to win your division.
Psssht back in my day, these clowns wouldn’t have made it… see in my day we had guys like scooter gennett who hit 4 home runs in one game!! Then actually strained his groin the next year and retired. Then a year later had the gall to claim new age players are soft. Pssht these young cats, would never make it in 2023
@@briandehan392 Brantley has a Nuxie feel to him...at least to me. When it was he and Marty, it felt about as close to Marty and Joe without Marty and Joe we could have had.
I was 11 and remember every pkayer on the Reds roster. Our role players like Braggs , Oester , Winningham , and Quinnones would come up clutch when we needed them. Nasty Boys in the bullpen. Great players like Larkin and Davis and all star players like O'Neill and Sabo. Loved this team
@Jim McCracken I am a life long Reds fan. What I meant is the NLCS was more thrilling and nail-biting because the games were closer and the Reds actually lost some games and had to come from behind.
Does anybody remember in the this series or the World Series 1990 that in Cincy a guy was shining a flashlight in the pitchers face of the other team? He got it taken away.
LOT of good memories at Riverfront Stadium. My first MLB I saw in person was in 1970 Reds vs. Mets. Reds won 6 to 1. I sat in the nose bleed red seats in dead center field but still a GREAT time.
My first mlb game was there as well. Dale Murphy hit 3 homers and a homeless lady outside the park was yelling to everyone and no one to free Pete Rose.
Bad ass Randy Myers #28 motions to a fan @ 2:31:38... get the fuck out of my way. Myers had 347 career saves, and led the league three times including in 1993 when he had 53 saves for the Cubs. In the 1990 postseason, Myers pitched 8 2/3 innings in relief and did not allow a run and had 4 saves. He was the MVP of this 1990 NLCS pitching 5 2/3 innings in 4 games allowing only 2 hits, had 3 saves, 7 K's, and a 0.00 era.
@@DNSKansas Stop being jealous of the talented world series players and coaches that go to the Yankees. Your coach Aaron Boone is a Red for life dumb dick! Your just salty because the Astros cheated your Yankees out of a World Series chance!
Hate how the announcers kept underrating the Reds. They keep on hyping Zane Smith who was a decent starter in 1990, but the Reds muertalized left handed pitching that year, 7 of the 9 starters had at least a 30 pt higher batting average against lefties and Braggs and Quinones also did from the bench. Only O'niel and Morris had a significantly worse BA against lefties. The Reds were practically begging for Leyland to put Smith in.
Bull fucking shit. The Athletics lost to the Reds because they were grossly overconfident. The Pirates showed what a bunch of chokers they were the next two years vs. Atlanta.
This remains, as of 2017, the last time an Ohio team beat a Pittsburgh team in a postseason meeting. There have been seven losses since: 1994 NFL season: Browns against Steelers (AFC Divisional Playoff) 2002 NFL season: Browns against Steelers (AFC Wild Card Playoff) - last playoff game for Browns as of 2017 2005 NFL season: Bengals against Steelers (AFC Wild Card Playoff) 2013 MLB season: Reds against Pirates (NL Wild Card Game) 2013-14 NHL season: Blue Jackets against Penguins (Metropolitan Division Semifinals - first season that teams shared division) 2015 NFL season: Bengals against Steelers (AFC Wild Card Playoff) - closest that Ohio team has come to victory over Pittsburgh team in postseason since 1990, Bengals led 16-15 late, but allowed Steelers to get into FG range due to various fouls and resulting penalty yardage; the way the Bengals lost this game should have resulted in Marvin Lewis getting fired as it dropped him to 0-7 in the playoffs, but somehow he kept his job, keeping my top candidate to replace him, Brian Kelly, as the head coach of Notre Dame football, who went on to follow up a Fiesta Bowl appearance with a 4-8 season (and HE kept HIS job despite that, ND made the same mistake with Kelly that they did with Charlie Weis who had a 3-9 season years before; it's my opinion that ND"s TV partner NBC has been dissatisfied with ND's performance since the network began televising their home games in 1991 as the team hasn't won a national title since 1988, and if no national title is won before the end of the current contract extension in 2025 NBC will bail); while the Bengals went on to their first losing season since 2010 (which still didn't result in Lewis being fired) 2016-17 NHL season: Blue Jackets against Penguins (Metropolitan Division Semifinals)
Think about this what if Pete Rose never got caught for gambling this is essentially his team that Lou pinella sorry for my spelling took and won the World Series so in all cases it should be Pete Rose with one more ring for his hometown team if he just not gambled on baseball
Dave Stewart was joking about his poor hitting in the World Series up to that point (three of them). He was 0 for 6, with 4 strikeouts and one walk. In the 1990 World Series, he only batted once in Game 1 in Cincinnati, striking out. When his turn came up in the fifth, he was removed for a pinch-hitter. They lost. He pitched Game 4 in Oakland, and they alternated the DH based on home team that year, so he didn't bat. He pitched a complete game 2-1 loss, as the Reds completed the sweep.
Reds were just the better team obviously. Thinking if the NL had the DH that year, would Reds have been even better that year maybe. Imagine if the 1975-1976 Reds had a DH. Talk about dominant and a lineup no one ever from any era would want to face.
Jack Buck was a fucking asshole. He demanded the Cardinals fire Harry Caray after the 1969 season. He demanded his sonny boy get all those high-profile gigs when he was grossly unqualified. Now his sonny boy is showing what an asshole he is by cheating on his wife with a married ex-Broncos cheerleader, then marrying the woman and having kids with her.
The Pirates should have just dissolved after winning Game 7 in Baltimore on 17 October 1979. Would have saved a lot of problems. Since 1980, the Pirates have been a stain on professional sports, period.
Marge Schott was like the female baseball version of Donald Sterling, the deposed owner of the Los Angeles Clippers. What I mean is that they both were known for being notoriously stingy (the key difference however, is that the Reds for the most part, were actually good despite of Schott) and their bull-headed racist tendencies.
@Jim McCracken How are you going to tell me to STFU when all of the stuff that Marge Schott said was true? And if you don't want to believe that, then there was too much smoke for there to not be a fire.
@Jim McCracken Are you real!? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fYrT_Kk_gr0.html Watch the video that I linked. Or you could simply check out Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marge_Schot. Anybody with any common sense who has heard of Marge Schott should be aware of her history of racist comments.
CBS totally sucked doing baseball......anybody who grew up in the 70s and 80s...knew ABC and NBC were the best at baseball......just think if CBS...didn't get baseball tv contract....there's no Joe Buck now
CBS fucked up when they fired Musburger, then chose asshole Jack Buck over Dick Stockton or Sean McDonough. Not that ABC did much better with Keith Jackson as its #1 for all those years. Jackson was a living legend doing college football. He was far from it doing baseball.
