@@TH-hy9kr I'm glad you remember, bc those things were good. 😃 (I was always the one who worked that window where other high schoolers bought their drinks. To me, it felt like them Fruitopias would simply be around forever!)
Anybody remember Nano Pets? The Tamagotchi craze had created a few competitors and one of them was Nano Pets. I remember getting one with a cat and I enjoyed playing with it. Until I realized that if you missed one day of playing the tiny thing, the pet would "run away" and the game would reset. It was frustrating.
My parents wouldn't let me have a Tamagotchi and I found a Nano Pet in the trash one day, so I had to keep it and somehow despite not being able to care for it while at home, it thrived for longer than I anticipated. Looking back, I laugh at how those things were, for my friends and I, probably one of the first forms of addiction to a digital medium of entertainment that was conveniently small enough to carry around and be available at all times.
Orbitz was one of my childhood faves. When I was 13, I had a daily paper route. On the bike ride home, I'd stop into the corner store to grab one every day. I was legitimately upset when they stopped it.
I was in my 30s, my kids were in their teens. It really was great. The 80s sucked (for me), so I don't really like anything from that decade. Though it should have been my prime, I skip over it for the 90s.
I can certainly remember when Beanie Babies were all the rage . I know I stood in line when stores would get a new shipment in to get one of the many coveted bears . I even knew of people that would follow UPS and Fed Ex trucks to see if they had Beanie deliveries. Some wild and crazy times.
They really were a huge deal and they exploded on the internet with people talking about which ones were rare and/or valuable. Thank you for watching and sharing some of your memories from the decade!
I worked at McDonald's when they were giving them away in the happy meals. Our lobby would be flooded with people at lunch time, many bought the food, only to throw it away, just to get the toy!
I remember sitting in the McDonald's drive thru to get Mel the koala. We must have waited an hour for that Happy Meal. My mom still has a few Teeny Beanie Babies in their original packaging. She refuses to believe that they're not worth anything. Haha.
My first experience drinking alcohol was with Zima in 1994 lol. I was 17 and the stuff was everywhere. We’d alternate between that, Boone’s Farm, and if we were feeling really desperate, Wild Irish Rose.
Heck I was 9 when I drank it. Took it from my mom and she gave up and said have it as long as you are at home. They brought it back when I was an adult and I bought cases and cases. Glad she got to enjoy it before she died
My spouse and I would love a list of 1980s and 1990s mall classics like KB Toys, Sam Goody, Borders, Little Red Hen, etc. We love your channel, Rhetty!
Don't forget the Natural Wonders store too. No trip to the mall was complete without a stop there. It almost felt like you were visiting an interactive science museum or something, when you'd go in there. I guess as fun as it was to hang around in there and play with the stuff, not enough people actually bought stuff, though.
@@mike91mdk45 Love Notes religious book store. It was originally called the Love Shop but people thought it was an adult bookstore. 🫣. So they changed the name.
I remember working at Walmart in the late 90s and one of the demo ladies gave us all those WoW chips to sample, we were all sick in the bathroom at work that night and i think around 9pm that night a few of us had to go home, it was horrible.
Zima is STILL present in Japan, not discontinued. It is not simply left over inventory, they are still marketing and producing fresh product. I was there all of September.
My fondest extinct product from the 90's was Josta, a dark purple tropical fruit soda from Pepsi. Got a big hit of nostalgia when I saw it on a table in the Loki series.
I graduated college in 1989 so was an adult through the 90s and I dont remember most of these products, I wonder if they were just part of everyday life that blends into the background for me. Thank you for posting, it made me smile
I remember a period where lots of people were running around with pagers for no apparent reason other than to have one. I had a very large, clunky car phone because I traveled a lot between work, home and school in different parts of the state and my parents worried a lot.
I do not remember the Boise chips but I do remember the Keebler Pizzaria chips and I loved those. Thank you for watching and sharing more for us to remember!
Not sure where I was but I only remember 3 on this list, the Clear Pepsi, the McLean Deluxe and Zima. The 90's were my 20's. All others I never knew existed.
The 1990s are my favorite decade ever! I had my wife by then and was in my 20s the entire decade. SO much fun we had. I remember most of those things. Owned some too. My wife passed in 2019 and I find the world sucks now. But the 90s will always be a haven of great memories and fun stuff we did and places we went.
Sorry about your wife. It sounds like you have great memories with her. I wish I was a teen in the 90s I was born February 11th 1993 but something about being a kid in the 1990s was special. Nice sounding mustang on one of your old videos. I remember racing a gt mustang when I first got my license when he shift into second his wheel hopped into the air then gripped and he was G.O.N.E 🤣
Sorry about your wife. The world doesn't suck. Just the magic of it dies when you get older. I'm sure every generation before you feel exactly the same when they were in the 90s. My goal is to break that "back in my day" trope when I'm in my 40s lol I'm a 2000s kid
There are so many great ppl on your channel. Hello all. Have great times this holiday season. Love and prayers sent to all and loved ones. Nothing but the best guys. And love your dogs, kittys ETC. I lost my sweetly on 9 26 22. I’m still broken hearted. I feel he’s still laying in my room. I miss my baby Palmer.😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
I loved them too. I don't remember the gelatin balls being chewy (more squishy), but they were tasty, and the drink was good as well. And the polka dot #2's were also entertaining ☺️
I never had a pair of Doc Martens, I kind of still want to get a pair someday. I’m 5’11” with a size 11 foot, though. I wore Birkenstocks back in ‘93 or ‘94 when I was 14. I bought them again in 2014 and have been wearing them ever since. I can’t believe I went 20 years without them. I still have that Brooke Shields issue of Cosmopolitan. Whenever I watch vintage commercials late at night, I always start craving some food that’s no longer made. Food tasted better back then.
It's interesting how those shoes as well as many others from the 90s came back around in style. They may be here to stay now I'm not sure. I know exactly what you mean by watching some of the vintage commercials. Thank you for watching and sharing some of your memories!
Lisa, I bought a pair of Doc Martin sandals few months ago and they are built like a Tonka truck. These things will last for years if not decades. As for Brooke Shields, take a look at her in that magazine you have. You will also be looking at a "picture" of one of my cousins. That meaning she was a dead ringer for Brooke Shields. If placed side by side you could not tell them apart.
@@samuelschick8813 OK, thanks! I didn’t know they had sandals now. I’ll have to take a look. My mom turns 73 tomorrow and I swear her knees are probably in better shape than mine and I’m 43!
@@luisreyes1963, I'm sure that there are a lot of things you buy that are associated with the unfavorable and you are unaware of it. If for example you buy Green Cross products like rubbing alcohol here's what you don't know. The person who started that company after WW2 was a doctor with Unit 731 in China. Buy a clown toy for your child. Well John Wayne Gacy gave clowns a bad name.
I remember those fajitas from McDonald’s! I actually thought they were good 😅 I remember my mom getting them. I brought this up to her and she swears she has no idea but I remember her getting them all the time. I can still taste what they were like!
One thing from the '90s that I'm sure hardly anyone else remembers is a line of grape juices put out by Earnest & Julio Gallo. They were made from ( un-fermented ) wine grapes, and I really liked the different flavors ( there were three, though I can't remember which grapes they were from; I'm not a wine drinker ). Unfortunately, they only came in weird "carafe"-style bottles that were about 2/3 the size of a standard juice bottle, and about twice as expensive, so I didn't get to enjoy very many before they were cancelled.
We had a WebTV setup in the late 90s. It was a cheap way to surf the internet. It may be laughable by today's standards, but back then, computers were still expensive, so this was a good alternative. I shelved it around 2002 and reactivated it briefly in 2010-2011 as MSNTV as temporary internet at our cabin.
It’s actually a good thing that Thirsty Cat and Thirsty Dog aren’t still around, I can imagine several other channels I watch devoting videos to taste-test them! (Honestly, there are people on RU-vid who would happily try them!)
I moved from mid KY to Detroit in 99, and my family was in the Cincinnati area. I came home almost every weekend. My F-150 had 2 tanks, and gas on the high side, by the interstate was .99 a gallon. I could afford to fill both tanks in those days. And I paid cash for my 3-year-old truck, that was beautiful, for 1500.00. Thanks for another great video.
Rhett, I enjoyed this video about "Forgotten Things in the 90's." I must admit I hadn't heard of a lot of these items or either forgotten about them. Great presentation and photos, too. Have a fantastic week. Take care 🐎
I didn't care for Zima, but a girlfriend of mine liked them, but only if she would always drop a Jolly Rancher in them. Remember the craze with wine coolers about that time? Also, I never had the McLean, but I sure did like the Mc DLT. Thanks for the memories.
Oh man that olestra hit different back in the 90s lol you ever eat some of those in the cafeteria at school?? By mid day you were unleashing hell fire in that bathroom 😂
I actually liked orbitz, didn't taste anything like cough syrup to me but i admit i was a young kid at the time and i did initially try it because of the fun lava lamp look.
The Sega CD Game Console. I bought my Son one to play some Sega Games Sonic, Knights, not too many games for that console. I Dont remember what yr. Thanks For Sharing.
I remember those chips, everybody loved them until they started getting cramps. It was big thing back then when the ingredients were out, people weren't pleased.
Born in '89 and first car I owned was a 1992 red Pontiac Sunbird convertible, it had the 3.1L v6 with a 5 speed manual, paid $1250 cash in 2013, a considerable amount of money after having graduated high school into the great recession, and owned it for 2 years while I attended Kalamazoo Valley Community College. I became the popular one and attracted lots of young females driving in the summer with the top down and wearing aviator sunglasss 😅, and brought back childhood memories of the Chevy cavalier, Oldsmobile Cutless and fox body mustang all of which were fairly popular convertibles in the area I grew up in, even into my high school years.
Don’t remember a lot of these…. Guess being stationed overseas much of the go go 90’s will do that. Remember zima, Pepsi crystal, got back into the states in time for the impact. Saw a few when I was at NAVSTA 32nd st. Oh , I remember furby being banned on base due to it maybe hearing classified info and then blurbing it out. And the newton was interesting.
Those Furby toys were a big deal on bases and government buildings. Now we have things far more capable of "spying" and yet there is no concern like there was with the Furby. Thank you for watching and sharing some memories.
@@RhettyforHistory There was a story a while back about people on bases using fitness tracking apps that were causing issues because they exposed the walking paths people were talking.
Cosmopolitan yogurt?Yum😛wonder what kind of flavors they had and if they had interesting names lol would loved to have tried them while flipping thru their mag😅haha what a interesting time indeed
Am I going crazy? Is their no 1 on Earth who remembers Celestial Seasonings making ice pops?! They came in tea flavors!!! I swear I remember 1 of my Aunts always having a box of them n her freezer for me for when my parents & I would come over!!! It feels like this is like a personal Mandela Effect or something! I literally can’t even find a trace of it on the internet!🤦🏽♀️😩🤣
The 90's don't seem that long ago to me. I guess the older you are 30 years ago seems like yesterday. I don't know where my head was back then, but I don't seem to remember these.
I miss the Mint a Burst, Fruit a Burst, Cinn a burst gum, the ice breakers ball things, colored pop secret popcorn, and this ugly candy in the shape of a finger, oh and the roller skate necklace candy . Mondo drinks and the Fritos Reba endorsed with the grill marks those were amazing “I know what I like I like Fritos !”
I grew up during the '90s and loved PB Crisps. Why were those discontinued? Planters should bring those back! Olestra chips: I loved those as a kid. Never had any problems from eating them. The video games: If the late '70s and early '80s were the Golden Age of gaming, the '90s were the Platinum Age of gaming.
EZ Squirt Heinz Ketchup. In 2000 Heinz released EZ Squirt with a few colors in it such as purple, green, red. At some point it got discontinued because of people losing interest in it. I know that EZ Squirt wasn't from the 90s but at least it was released in 2000 close enough.
I remember when I was a kid, about ten or a little younger, the Mario sodas in the pipsqueak cans with one character on each can. Those were just as good as the orbits drinks. And turkey sticks. They looked almost like hot dogs only made from turkey and had cheese sometimes in them. Those were so yum
Born in '90, so only about half of these sound familiar to me. I did happily get to experience some of these things first hand. A few others just so odd, ppl had to of told me about them or something. Ha
I remember buying a six pack of Zima when it first came out. I drank one and didn't like it at all. The rest of them sat in my fridge for the next year or so, till getting thrown out.
