Great race, rob herring was at a disadvantage weight wise but not in ability. Raced there practiced there but never had the talent or commitment these guys had, was on the way to practice once and a mate rang us and said thorpey is here,,,,,, Yeah right was our reply we got in the park ferme looking for a big motorhome with Dave Thorpe written all over it no such thing Then our mate rode in and said Dave and Dickie dye are in that white Ford P 100 over there,,,, he was telling the truth unloaded our bikes booked on after first practice session we were back in exhausted Dave walked over to us and was looking at my bike cagiva 500, he said I thought that's what it was and said he had raced against them in Europe and that they were quick bikes resembled the cr 500 , great guy down to earth and chated with us and we had pictures taken with him .They say you should never meet your heroes couldn't disagree more great rider great bloke and ambassador to the sport needless to say made our day !!
Interesting to see Malin on the perimeter-framed SR500 whilst Thorpe runs the Stock KX. Thorpey never liked the SR500 as I remember. Thanks for uploading!
Yes I remember him switching to the normal kx after a while on the perimeter frame one cos he couldn’t get on with it, lovely bike though the works kx. The tracks were getting pretty jumpy around this time and even though thorp was still very fast in the corners he was losing on the technical jumps, what a brill Mx rider he was and missed him when he gave up racing
