I'd like to thank Nicholas McElroy for allowing me to film his Absolutely STUNNING and gorgeous 1991 Eagle Premier ES Limited! I drove to Toledo, Ohio to film this blast from the past. My best friend's sister in Oklahoma had a 1989 bench-seat Premier LX and I fondly remember riding all over in this car! Even still, over 30 years later, I remember the smooth and quiet ride this car had, and, being reunited with the Premier again was an absolute blast! I could have easily made this video over an hour long, but I will spare you!
Nicholas is very active on Facebook with the Underappreciated Survivor page and the Eagle Premier/Dodge Monaco Owners page! If you are on Facebook, check out his posts!
Most importantly, enjoy this blast from the past!

I just bought a 1987 Eagle Premier LX, crazy story but its been in a garage since 1990. Its mint. Dusty but mint. Pulled it out today will tow it tomorrow and give it a wash and see what needs to be done. Only 2648 original miles.

I use to have one of these around 1995-96 and ran it for a couple years. It did pretty good in the Montana snow too. Pretty unique in that it's a fwd but not a transverse so you can actually get to both sides of the engine equally without tearing one half of the engine completely apart just to change spark plugs because the engine is up against the firewall. It would roast the tires temporarily from a stop if you wanted it too. I was told by a mechanic one time to get rid of it and that he had to go to school to learn how to work on them. I didn't listen and didn't regret it!!! My dad and I built a home made 4th order bandpass box with 2 12" Audiovox AVW12 subwoofers that fit nicely under the rear deck and still plenty of room in the trunk. If I saw one for sale today, I would snag it in a heartbeat!!!

Its funny my parents got an 88 brand new and then a grand cherokee in 93. I never realized how much the two interiors resemble each other.

Honestly, as much as I love these, that's about the only thing on these that is excellent!

Love these cars; they had a beautiful design and were good road sedans. Premier didn’t get the respect it deserved, for it had excellent road manners and interior ergonomics. Better looking and better driving car than Ford Taurus at that time!

I worked at a jeep/eagle dealer in Canada from 1987-2005. I ended up with Chrysler but I was parts manager when these came out. I remember the euro design was quite revolutionary. Frankly, we supplied many to a local Budget Rental. They would sometimes break down on the way to delivery. The head gaskets were trouble. Transmission was wonky. The rear windows were often replaced under warranty for being warped. They were, however, comfortable and great to drive.

Also of note: many parts were carry over Renault parts. I know. I sold the parts. All the switches, engine parts, lights, trim…was Renault part numbers. A very euro car.

Hey, all. I am Nicholas McElroy and that was my car. Just wish to thank you Josh for taking your time to drive from Indiana to the Toledo Zoo to film the car and meet my brother and I. The Eagle has since moved on from my ownership and is going to go through a thorough restoration in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I had a great time and maybe I'll get another survivor for you to review, any more on your bucket list? I would love to find a Sterling 825/827 or a Daihatsu Charade or maybe I will get another Trabant!

In those days l had the opportunity to compare it to a Camry and a Dodge Intrepid. There was no comparison. The Premiere beat them both hands down. A much more substantial vehicle. I ended up owning 2. Best visibility EVER!

I have never noticed the overhang on the front and back. Holy smokes. Made the wheelbase short. I had an 87 and 90 Volvo 760 gle that had this engine. Or variant. It was bulletproof. Great engine! Awesome review thanks!

OMG! My first car was a 1991 Eagle Premier! It was white with gray interior. Y'all, I bought it at an auto auction in Oklahoma on my 16th birthday for $1200. It was a POS though. Kept overheating...like all the time. Finally the engine blew when I was driving on the road. The brakes and the radio were kick-ass though, but the volume knob didn't work properly. Oh, and the best part of my Premier...someone had decided to pain the top portions of the car (roof, hood, trunk lid) in white house paint! On the one in the video, were the orange & red tail lights only on limited editions in 1991? Mine were all red.
@trabantadmirer9881
@trabantadmirer9881 2 года назад
Yep, they were known for overheating, didn't help that Chrysler mechanics didn't know much about their PRV engines and the fact that the majority of Premier owners treated them as disposables. As for the taillights, yes '91 Limited models received the red/orange treatment which was on all models for '92.

ES Limited has the amber and red in 1991, then in 1992 they had amber and red in all of them. Actually, I have a 1991 ES Limited in Black and I am looking for the left rear tail lamp since I cracked the lens.

La Eagle Premier est techniquement proche de la Renault qu'avait en France entre 1984 et 1992. La différence est qu'on avait en France un hayon.

Almost 20 min long vid & the guy didn't even do a test drive . Very lame
@NeighborhoodCarReviews
@NeighborhoodCarReviews Год назад
Couple things: 1. Nowhere in the title or the video mentions test driving, 2. It was a private party-owned car and, while he did offer the test drive, I turned it down for various reasons. In hindsight, I’m glad I did, because after his 2 hour journey back home, the water pump failed, and I wouldn’t have been ok with knowing that, if I drove it for, I don’t know, 20 minutes or so, it would have failed earlier. Also, in all fairness, a lot of my videos DO have test drive sections in them, but lately, I’ve opted to remove that segment from my videos. So, it’s not lame, I have my reasons for not doing them, but I also understand wanting them.
