Muscle cars in the Motor City! (even if they're really silhouettes, the suckers in the showrooms the next Monday morning fall for it every time)
I might be an "import guy" who loves road racing..but I'm 'American' enough to enjoy a rumbling V8, Carbs & pushrods weren't just NASCAR territory back then. ;)

About a year or two before this, Bob Keselowski (Brad's dad) ran his ARCA Monte Carlo SS in this race. Did everything they could do to lighten the car up, yet be able to make it ARCA legal again. Aluminum adaptors in order to run aluminum wheels. A fiberglass late model stock car hood. Switched the glass windshield for Lexan. Everything possible. I had to go down there to letter the sponsor on it. Just walked right through the F1 pit, with my lettering paint kit liked I belonged there. No one said a word. Didn't know where the car was so I just kept walking with my head up, and looking straight ahead, till I ran across it.

I see that Bruce Nesbit #50 finished 11th after starting last! I was a non-paid crew member for him at that time but did not work this race.

Okay, I mentioned models of these cars on another upload, and I've done some research this time. From what I've seen, every Revell Camaro was a Riley & Scott, and every Revell Mustang was a Roush..but the different decals were fun! Sharp in the later Rain-X livery: Revell 7358 Baldwin's later "Hot Wheels" car: Revell 7357 (I've got one, it's not for sale!) The Mustang was originally Dorsey's '89 Championship winning car: Revell 7197 Repopped as Robert Lappalainen's beautiful old JPS livery: Revell 7196 Hmm...considering those kit numbers, perhaps I've got it backwards? :D Honestly, it's been awhile since I've built model cars..but I've heard that if you can paint the bodywork the way you want, there are a bunch of small companies that will sell you the decals you need to complete your project.

I had the Revell 1/25 Mustang Motorcraft(2), Camero Rain X #33,(2) stock car transporter with Rain X decals on it, Hot wheels Jack Balwin Camero and went to Mid Ohio for T/A race real cars where entered John Player Special Mustang .

These kits are way cool, despite being a bit finicky to put together (or maybe I'm just not very good at it). They also did the Mustang in the 1990 Whistler colors. And a couple of years before that, they used the same basic kit with the older Mustang body style, for the IMSA GTO Mustang in 7/11, Motorcraft, and Folgers colors.

Does anyone have any information about the Mustang pace car in this race? Photos of the car? Thank you

Thank you! Now, do you have the 1990 race or the 1992 race, which was the first race on Belle Isle, in full? (It is up on here, but it is missing the last few laps.)

+Michael Daugherty , Prime Network was *so* bad about that kind of thing. Bill Adam was a driver, and did better on other networks (where there wasn't so much pressure to "dumb it down"). But I have to admit that I never cared for Larry Nuber. He was actually one of the original announcers for motorsport on ESPN, but had an oval racing (mostly USAC) background. I still remember an ESPN broadcast of the Copper Classic (a great old USAC event where they let the 'minor league' guys out on the big oval at Phoenix) in the early '80s where he actually went through the paddock asking drivers something like, 'So, why do *you* hate road racing?'. Ugh. ESPN finally gave him the boot in '89 or '90 after he damn near got in a fight with the 'color commentator' during "Thursday Night Thunder". Still gotta give an RIP to the guy..died in the early '00s from a stroke, and he was only in his '50s.

i'm still looking for the fight between him and steve chassey on air...apparently it had something to do with chassey not liking rich vogler very much. as for nuber, i don't know. he wasn't horrible, but..just eh

Nuber knew what he was talking about. More than what you get nowadays. For the Midwesterners, he emceed Joy Fair's retirement at Toledo Speedway. He knew things about Joy's career that Joy forgot. That was a 50 year career.
