Pulling out of my driveway and driving through the streets in my neighborhood to demonstrate the start/stop driving in gears 1-3. Plenty of hills to demonstrate the clutch and test my rollback skills. Haha. Also more boring narration to bump the excitement level to 11.

Always loved the cloth seats over leathers or vinyl. The were cooler on the body and the seat foams held their shape a lot longer than the others.

I agree. I have a '92 as well but with black vinyl. The driver seat is shredded and the rest are starting to tear at the seams. My interior is pretty good otherwise.

great video Geoff, i have driven almost every Volvo built from the late 50's onward, and have owned Volvos since 1981, your car is in amazing shape, is it a 92 240 dl ,i'm thinking because you have no tachometer and glass came standard with one, your right they are amazing in town and highway, especially the 5 spd, i have an 89 240 dl auto which is great and all, the 5 speed is still the better choice, I live in Manitoba Canada we're flatlanders here, lol , i get slightly better fuel economy then what Volvo said the car would get, its money in my pocket all the same, I use to sell Volvos back in the late 80's early 90's for a few years, it was fun , just not allot of income at the time, i my last demo from the dealership was a 1990 240 dl 5 speed with optional a/c, cruise ,tachometer, and Volvo stereo, they weren't so good and the car was around 22500-23000.00 $ CDN/ taxes, very pricey compared to Toyota or Honda, Volvo was still the better car by far, I took my demo after its 1st oil change approx 1500 miles on it and went to Saskatoon Saskatchewan from Winnipeg 475 miles for a photography holiday with my uncle who was a retired photography teacher, I drove the speed limit 100kph/62 mph with cruise on did not need the a/c was not that warm and made it on one tank of fuel, remember our gallon is 4.55 litres not 3.78, the tanks were all the same Canada or US all 60 litre tanks I ended up averaging 39.2 mpg, keep in mind this is the CDN gallons , i had surprised myself and my uncle , arrived early by about an hour or so, told it took one tank and shook his head, so my return trip was an average of 39.7 mpg my boss was amazed and said not many of these did that unless it was the 5 speed, this is what sold my demo about 3 months later to a school teacher who was a previous Honda Accord owner of 2 models and 1 Toyota Camry which were lighter and faster cars not by much, my customer came back in 2 months later for the 5000 mile service and in formed us that the car had gotten its best fuel economy at 75 mph and just about 41 mpg and a secret, he put NGK Iridium spark plugs in it and a K&N air filter in it and said there was a small noticeable difference in drivability , so some times customers do know best how to get the best mpg's from cars and her kept and drove it until if memory serves me properly almost 600k so almost 380k miles and did all his work at the dealership i worked for and only replaced 1 clutch assembly complete in that time, he drove mostly highway which makes a difference on maintenance also, he got rid of it because his wife said it looked too ratty and rough, it did bring home their 3 kids from the hospital and never failed to start in our cold Canadian winters and she now drives an v70 xc wagon she loves, it sure doesn't get the fuel mileage of a 240 , it is a nice car in its own right, i have an 89 240 dl that is in need of some paint , my paint is still original and it chipping away , mechanically very sound though, these cars are a way of life in a sense, alive them or hate them thing, just how it is I drive hwy everyday to and from work about 55 miles daily and get a tank a week from it no complaints from it and always starts and have never driven another make of car with better heat or better heated seats in the winter, maybe now a new Mercedes to the cost of $45k ,no thanks and i only have 1 computer in my car, the good thing for us 240 owners is Volvo went 100 % Bosch in 1989 so this just made the car more reliable and greater longevity, how many people do you know that drive a car as old as ours that is reliable, comfortable and economical and had orthopaedic seats from factory and toy can still get almost any part you need for it in North America, Rockauto or IPDUSA for you, I am long winded, when it comes to my Volvos , they are truly a passion of mine. This again for the video

Wow, I wish my shifter was this tight. Mine feels like stirring a pot of wet noodles. I really should replace the transmission and shifter linkage with the spare ones I have lying around already. It's hard to get motivated when the old stuff still works, even though it could be much nicer.

Seems like a heavy duty commercial vehicle compared to modern vehicles. That's why they last forever and easy to fix.

The 5 speed may be more fun, but when you live in a metropolitan area with bad traffic you learn to appreciate the AW70.

Are these transmissions easy to drain?

I have the m46 and it is incredibly easy. I would assume the same is true for the m47.
