That's amazing, thank you for sharing that fact! I always love hearing of people doing beautiful things for others. I was amazed to see Rosa Parks alive on this broadcast and so honored that I was still alive at a time when she was still alive and I could really see the woman on television that I grew up hearing about in grade school. And I remember Carol Moseley Braun! That was such a big deal when she got elected. She really paved the way as well. Basically all these people being honored and on this stage really paid their dues. It's inspiring.

But that high A flat in the bridge kicked some of Miss Patti's ass (even with all the screamin and gesturing), just like it has done countless other singers. Aretha's recording of this song set the standard very high. Amber Riley is a strong 2nd. Kelly Price handles it well, but even she lowered the key from Aretha's E flat major down a whole step to D flat. Very few others have been successful in any key.

Angela Bassett did a wonderful job playing as Tina Turner in What's Love Got To Do With It.I also think that Rollo from sitcom Sanford and Son could of played Ike in that movie in my opinion.

Back in the day being a female sex symbol wasn't about body only, but your essence, pose , women had a certain allure then.🥰

And Aretha was not being shady. She stood for Patti and normally she does not stand. A lot of artists who are being honored don't stand. Shirley Caesar never stands. Prince did not stand.

Aretha became shady in her old age because Patti LaBelle’s personality, love, and admiration by the generations that followed overshadowed and outlived Aretha’s reign.

You would think all them would be in the front row. Rather in seats behind. Lena and Rosa shouldn’t be walking that far.

Editing is everything. I've seen other clips where Aretha was deemed "cold" to Patti, during and after "Ain't no way", and I concurred. Now, seeing the fuller clip, I disagree. Aretha actually got up and walked OVER to Patti. That's not coldness in my book. And I STILL love Patti LaHelle.
@mrbrownroyyal

This is not the clip people were referring to. You have to look up when Patti sang at White House when Obama was in office and it was tribute to Aretha. Thats the video.

Yeah Aretha didn’t seem here for Patti. She didn’t even hug her. She gave her some pats on the shoulder. She didn’t hug Danny Glover either when he gave her the award. Maybe she’s not a hugger?

5:38 - When you get the "Tina Turner" out, how do you put her back? I remember watching this with my mom when I was a kid and I remember that joke distinctly. A powerful woman is not like a genie in a bottle. Thanks for uploading. This was a gift. Our community gave them their flowers in a timely fashion.
