The 1993 MX-6 may have not aged gracefully in the front, but ohh that 2-door coupe profile and rear end are stunning.

Woo! It's a retro review of my car! :D I own a bright red '94 MX-6 with all the right ingredients - V6, 5-speed manual, sunroof, even has the optional 4-wheel-steering. It's in almost mint condition inside and out and the engine still purrs even with 280,000 kms on it. It's a brilliant car to drive and I think the design looks better now than it did when it was new - its curvy styling really stands out against all the angry creases and sharp angles of today's cars.

A handsome coupe, though I've always thought the profile looked a bit awkwardly proportioned. The styling is more mature and conservative than Probe, though the Probe is a great-looking car too and I LOVE its pop-up headlights. I've heard over the years that the auto transmission was pretty crap in these. Short lifespan. Watching the young man play with the HVAC and stereo controls made me realize how much I miss physical, analog controls of the past. Touch screens lack the physical, tactile feedback that is more satisfying. They replaced tactile feedback with a "beep" sound as a substitute and it's just not the same.

@thunderboltll
@thunderboltll 2 года назад
@@harrisonbrand8985 95k is pretty good. Just make sure it has a replaced timing belt. So the issues are this car is hard to find parts for, and heavy maintenance is cumbersome and/or pricy. For examples, when I first got mine I blew the headgasket being an idiot and the whole engine basically has to come out to replace that. And for parts, my overflow reservoir cracked in the summer heat last year and finding a replacement was impossible. Any listings were over 5 years old and you're gonna see that a lot. I ended up getting one custom fabbed from aluminum as I've been taking her racing anyways. But to answer your question directly, it has the classic Japanese reliability you'd expect, it will last a very long time if you just do your due diligence, but it's not a Honda. Parts aren't plentiful and repair protocol is more similar to a Mitsubishi GTO than an Accord. Still worth every penny I've wasted on her hahaha!

I owned a used MX-6 LS and it was a great car. I needed something more family friendly than my aging RX-7 and this did the trick with a usable back seat and trunk. When I bought the MX-6, a co-worker warned me about the high cost to replace the alternator. It was a good thing he warned me, because when it did go I knew it was going to sting. Due to the alternator being located between the engine and the frame, the engine must be lifted for replacement. Aside from the alternator, this car was bullet proof. I loved the styling, but the MX-6 looked SO much better with the OEM spoiler that I added later. Zoom-Zoom.

If there's one thing I wish someone could expand on was the performance levels of how this DOHC V6 produces superb acceleration numbers with meager displacement and meager horsepower. I remember the Ford Probe/MX-6 just being one to two seconds behind the 5.0L Mustang with it's larger displacement, more torque, and it's RWD chassis. So many others with the 6 do mods etal and keep the spirit alive. Still classic in its design and style , imo.....

"Buy American"...problem here is people buy the badge and "think" they're buying Murica when in fact they aren't, example was the 2005 Chrysler Crossfire I had. Yep, had a Chrysler badge and sold at their dealerships but 100% made in Germany w/ MB parts...just one example💡

@@d0sitmatr I grew up in the D and my late worked for GM Hydramitic/Powertrain @ 9 mile and Mound (now closed😔) and many people back home think like this. The Honda Accord has been built in Marysville OH since 1982. American workers go to work there everyday and the surrounding economy benefits. The default answer is "but the money goes back to Japan"...this argument is like the dog chasing its Tail. How about all those Camaros, Challengers, Chargers and 300's, another shining example👈

So many people choose to remain blissfully ignorant and that is their choice, as long as they don't share that ignorance with anyone else as "credible". Jay Leno got in trouble for referring to the Challenger as Detroit made some 12-13 years ago, so not shocking. Reminds me of the many MB and German car fanatics (I love all brands), who stupidly blame Chrysler for the drop in quality, neglecting to remember MB started cost cutting in the early 90s with redesigns and facelifts, well before 1998. Wish everyone would exercise due diligence, but that unfortunately is human nature.

I had a 97 in leather with a stick. Loved it mechanically, but damn the body and trim were cheap. Interior panels were thin and would peel away from the vinyl trim, and the body started to rust out on the trunk lid after just a few years. I bought it used for half of the new price, and sold it for half what I paid for it. Beautiful looking car, but no wonder they completely disappeared. I think they all biodegraded into the dirt. I still see old Civics and Accords on the road, but never an old MX6 or MX3.

I always liked Mazdas. My aunt had a '88 626 Turbo and it was a neat car. My parents bought a '92 Buick Century and it was such a POS compared to that 626. In around 1994, the Buick was at the body shop a few days for a minor fender bender and we got a 626 rental. It was so much nicer even though it was a bit of a base model with a 4 cylinder. I always wondered why my parents didn't buy more Japanese stuff. After the Century, we got my Grandpa's '97 Riviera. They did buy a new Camry in '05, but that was replaced (in order to give my sister something to drive when she totalled her Kia Spectra) with another Buick (Enclave). Dad swears he will never buy another American car. Wish I could say I learned from all their missteps, but I have my wife driving a Buick Encore. She also swears she'll never buy another American vehicle. Maybe I can get her to buy a Mazda CX30 Turbo.

Wish Mazda still made this model. The world needs more 2 door coupe style cars, and less of the "yawn, boring" 4 door models. If you want 4 doors, get a wagon. If you are going to do "boring" At least get one that is practical and can do so much more than regular 4 door cars.

It's styling (like the Probe GT) looks like something from a better, vanished time (apologies to the late Neil Peart and Rush). I miss the flame badge too. My baby LS just rolled over on it first 100 Thousand Kilometres (62 Thousand Miles), I drove it like six times last years to keep the mileage down. Emotional doesn't describe it well enough the one thing I did fine is the braking works better with the ABS disable. Proof twice I should have wrote the car off racing but with manual braking I was able to squeak through in the last milliseconds.
