One of the greatest underrated moments in phillies history. I went nuts when he hit that HR. This is the moment in phillies history no one ever talks about!! Clutch!!

It was the biggest home run in Phillies history until the Matt Stairs home run against the Dodgers.

Huge. I remember it like it was yesterday. This is still my favorite Phillies moment. They were such an underdog team and this was like Dykstra saying "Why not us?" with his bat. Very inspiring.

Touched the plate and then went into the Ricky Henderson trot towards the dugout. Just needed the shirt flick and Nails would've nailed it.

I think lenny was one of the best pure natural hitters ever. At that time period almost EVERY baseball team was taking steriods. In the words of John Kruk " we saw that taking steriods was that we were just keeping up with every other team". I don't care what lenny did outside of baseball. I care how he played the game and he played the game very well.

+Gavin Roman .... Today I guess Lenny was saying he put that stuff in his cereal ... lol ... It was an era where lot's of guy's were doing it... It's funny because you don't need to be bigger in baseball to be good, look at how the Japanese play the game, little ball moving runners along, good pitching, good base hitting, smart and disciplined.... For whatever reason in American baseball everyone wanted to be the home-run guy ....
@MeneTekelUpharsin
@MeneTekelUpharsin 8 лет назад
You don't need to be bigger but it certainly helps. Its not a coincidence that bigger players tend to hit more HRs. If it didn't help them they wouldn't be taking it. Dykstra career would've probably been done when he was 28 if it wasn't for roids.
@funkyflights
@funkyflights 8 лет назад
Mene Tekel .... For home runs and running faster sure it helps.... But I was pointing out you don't have to hit home runs to be a good baseball player.... Japanese have proven that so many times, even winning the baseball classic over American all stars ...
@funkyflights
@funkyflights 5 лет назад
curragh 42 ... Actually no, USA baseball is not far superior to the Japanese league... In baseball you don’t have to be bigger faster or stronger.. Japanese baseball is very disciplined, good pitching solid contact hitting ... I’ve seen Japan spank the USA, so don’t act like we’re so superior in baseball, because we’re not, baseball is not like basketball or football..
@funkyflights
@funkyflights 5 лет назад
@curragh 42 ... Dude have you watched Japanese baseball ? They are VERY disciplined players, very good pitchers and hitters... Again, baseball is not about who's the better athlete... It's a game about coordination and timing, Japanese baseball isn't guy's juicing to hit home runs, it's all about good pitching and good base hitting with great defense... You're underestimating the level they're at ...

God, this is pure bliss. Nails silences the Braves, Harry the K with the call, and a stunned Jimmah Cahtah there to witness it. The only thing that would have made it better would have been a Phils fan dumping his beer on Jimmah's head.

I just realized that today (October 11, 2023) is officially the 30th anniversary of this game. How insane would it be if the Phillies manage to go to the World Series just like they did 30 years ago and 40 years ago, when they faced the Baltimore Orioles. And even more insane, is that as I write this, the Phillies are again, in a playoff series (not the NLCS like in 1993 but still) against the Atlanta Braves.
