My dad passed away this week. One of my fondest memories of him was when he called Dykstra’s first home run before he hit it. We weren’t even Phillies fans, just baseball fans, but the fact that my dad called a home run (something he never did) in the World Series no less, impressed my 11 year old mind so much that I will never forget it.
@@clarkbar He had a great year in 1990 with the Phillies (he was an All-Star that year and hit .325) and had a great year in 1993 (and was the runner-up NL MVP to Barry Bonds). So while I don't think his number should be retired or anything, you're wrong. Outside of the Phillies, he did great things with the Mets but I know the point was about his time with the Phillies so we'll just leave it there.
Sorry but Schmidt, Carlton, Ashburn, Bunning, Roberts, Luzinski, Rollins,, and Howard are the ones in my book. Dykstra only had about a couple good years (‘90 and ‘93).
Len Dykstra has always been my favorite Phillies player. Collected all his cards and still buy his autographs. When I think of my childhood day of the Phillies, I think of him.
And somehow the Phillies lost this game. Been a Phils fan for close to 50 years. This was one of the most devastating losses I’ve experienced as a fan.
Game 4 was the one that hurt me more than anything. I was in my college apartment acting like a lunatic. I was about to throw the TV out the window during that 8th inning.
Phillies fans still talk about 93' and the Phillies have won a World Series since then. That's how memorable this 93' team was. Dykstra said he thinks the 1993 team was the best season in Philadelphia baseball history and I think he's right.
There were so many great games in 93. I've been around for both championships and 93 is my favorite season. They almost beat one of the best teams of the past 50 years. That blue jay team was stacked with 6 hall of famers.
I think it might have something to do with the whole way the team carried themselves as well as the playing. As a kid there was something cool about seeing these guys out there, looking and acting like a lot of folks from here, people you would know. Mullets, ripped dirty uniforms (love ya Kruk), etc. One of my friend's dads said they seemed kinda like the '74-'75 Flyers teams of baseball. Scrappy. Miss that summer.
dude was so clutch... the would be MVP of the world series, if only the phillies could have pulled it off. the 93 season was just a glimpse of what he could do when he was healthy.
My beloved Mets got rid of him and Kevin Mitchell for almost nothing. Wilpons got in power n ran this team into the shitter. Two players that had MVP seasons. One a winner and one snubbed of winning one. Just imagine if they stuck around a few years longer.
that first one just looked like a line double coming off the bat. And it went out. heck from that angle coming off the bat looked like something that would hook foul.
Lenny Dykstra hits a HR off of the son of a former Mets and Yankees pitching coach and then hits another off of a former Mets and Yankees pitcher. Isn't that a coincidence? 🤔
Mets destroyed players careers Kid was great out the gate and they begrudged him mismanaged him Destroyed Howard Daryl and Dwight on n on etc Lenny could had been hall of fame no doubt. Just a couple of years after that disgusting mets he showed some of his true talents given the chance So burnt by the Mets he was toast too soon
@@VeN0m88 brutal trade....the players may not have been the only ones on the nose candy. They made some awful decisions during those 3 years between 86-89
@@metsfan421 I gotta admit the coolest person I ever met at a Phillies game was a Mets fan who sat next to me in the 2000 or 2001 season. It was a sunday afternoon game and we were right on the rail in center field and shinjo made a willie May's over the shoulder catch right in front of us. I've looked for footage of that catch but cant find it. If I ever do me and that cool Mets fan will have to be in the frame.
