He viewed basketball as a ticket to improve his way of living instead of a profession to build himself as the best basketball player. He was an eccentric personality who enjoyed seeing the world but never loved the basketball life. Remember, he didn't start playing basketball until late into high school. His brother, however, had his own mental problems, and he was jealous of his brother's financial success. It's kind of a Cain and Abel story in real life.
