9-Ball - It was the “Black Widow” vs. the “Striking Viking” at the 1994 Women’s U.S. Open 9-Ball Championships. Jeanette Lee, 23, and Ewa Mataya Laurance, 30, both future BCA Hall of Famers matched up in the Finals of that event. Jeanette had a host of wins in her early career, but this was her biggest challenge up to that time. Ewa was the 1988 and 1991 U.S. Open 9-Ball champion with plenty of experience under the lights. Let’s see if it paid off. Since 1994, both Jeanette and Ewa had remarkable careers whose exposure made them famous throughout the world.

The SARDO Tight Rack!!!!! I haven’t thought about that in yeeears. It is really sad that it has faded into the background on “mainstream” media, but I do think it’s great that there seems to be a gaining in popularity on RU-vid. I was 14 years old when this match was played and I wasn’t playing or watching pool yet, so it’s really cool to be able to see these legendary older matches and players in their prime.

Ewa made a good hit near the end by the left bottom corner. That's the same hit that Earl said Effren hit bad on him. Very hard to see without slow mo.

Yes, I had to play it at .25 speed and watch it one frame at a time, but it was indeed a good hit. It was not a foul. Efren's shot was easier to see than this. Earl was just frustrated.

you guys are all wrong. cue ball goes from end cushion to side cushion and hits 3 ball coming off the cushion. 3 ball and cue ball both roll down table withoul contacting a rail.

I learned something new today: if you're trying to play safe and the object ball is blocking the pocket, the rule of thumb is that you're going to double-kiss. Would love to see more of these classic matches. A great piece of nostalgia.

Oh how I miss the 90s. Announcers commenting about how beautiful the women were and how well dressed. Comment about how this is a ‘dog fight’. Kiss on the cheek for the win. Today you would get fired, but in reality it’s just human innocence and love and respect.

Unbelievable, right? The ball moved 5 inches, neither of the players spotted it (at least I hope Ewa didn't...), the referee didn't spot it, the commentators didn't spot it, and nobody in the crowd said anything. Hard to imagine something like that would happen today. Relieved to see Jeanette win the rack.

I think it was because everyone was looking from a distance and there was no high resolution big screens at that time. The movement was slightly quick.

I used to go to Q-Masters once in awhile in the 90's and always saw Barry Behrman there running the business. He would even do the menial things to keep the pool hall going smoothly.

When Ewa kicked at the ball after Jeanettes miss. She barely thinned the object ball before the rail or the cue ball would've stayed down table if it hit 2 rails then ball rather than I ball then rail cut thinly

*_These were Great Days for Players At Home, Audience. Days when average person can have fun and BUY a Cue Mnfr. that your Favorite Player Played with. Either a Meucci, Mcdermott, Jos, etc. But today with these 1,000 dollar SHAFTS, 500 Dollar Shafts, etc. Its ridiculous. And truth is, its just Promo. Allison Fisher whooped evryone witha $75.00 Cuetec. And that was cool to play with a same cue a Pro has on Tv. Well,, guess thats it._*

Ewa kick shot on 3 ball definitely wasn’t a scratch. Cue ball hit the rail after it contacted 3 ball. Lee probably would have run out regardless though

back in the day. everyone played with movement. it is the newer players, newer era, where they wait for chickens to hatch. newer era, slower, hence need for this whole shot clock thinga. They Also Played SPEED POOL bavk then. You had to shoot Fast. TORNAD POOL. Does anyone remember that? Does uploader have any Speed Pool Matched?

@@PostUp_Time I think players were more aware of playing in rhythm. They don't drag their tempo down overthinking. If they make the shot the way they expected they already know what their plan is for the next shot. They just double check their angle and go
