The race you are about to see appear as originally broadcast and may contain imagery that is offensive and doesn't align with NASCAR's values. NASCAR has since permanently banned the display of the confederate flag at all events.
I've read for Dale Earnhardt used to have to borrow money on Thursday to use to buy tires, and they had to win on the weekend so he could pay that money back. He had to pay his rent and his bills, so he raised like he didn't have a choice. Even when he was older and successful and had millions of dollars, he still raised that way, because he didn't have a choice.
I remember it being during the start of college football season and it rained a lot, so there were some stoppages. We switched back and forth between football games and the race and if I remember correctly, that race ended well after midnight.
I enjoy watching these old races , since when I was younger , no cable so no real way of keeping up . Till 02 when I moved in with a buddy who had satellite… Game On !!!

My first NASCAR race beginning to end. If took forever, ending after midnight with 90 minutes of rain delay. Dale was the fastest driver on the track but also the biggest a-hole: Spinning Wallace, blocking Martin in the pits, not to mention wrecking Terry at the finish.
Dale Earnhardt made Nascar! He was the reason people talked about it. His fans were proud and his haters HATED. Unfortunately, Nascar died with him, as it has been said so many times before. You can't name a driver more loved or hated than Dale Earnhardt. There are some close seconds, but there's only one. Maybe I'm biased. I was there.
Bill Elliot was a lot more popular. Also Nascar peaked in 2005. So no, earnhardt was not the most popular and Nascar didnt die with him. He was hated by a lot of people. For good reason.
Dale was the man but NASCAR grew from the south when Jeff Gordon entered. He was hated and loved by many. NASCAR isn’t great from one man. It’s at-least two. Gordon/Earnhardt, Wallace/Earnhardt, Harvick/Busch, Yarborough/Allison Brothers. Just pick a rival and that’s what makes NASCAR. Was Earnhardt the man? Damn right he was. Everyone looked up to him later in his career. Petty and Earnhardt are real 7 time champ, Johnson a 7 time chump.
Disagree. There were several reasons Cup was so good back then. Several factors that came together for a perfect storm. It was a fantastic series back then. Nascar made a series of blunders in the 90's that set it on the wrong course. It will never be the same. Btw, I was a huge Elliott fan. Didn't care for Earnhardt or his driving style.
