6:31 that third cable is likely the kick down cable that goes down to the transmission (I’m not sure if the transmission in the President is electronically controlled or not) that cable only comes into play when you stomp your foot to the floor for WOT; it essentially tells the transmission to downshift to a lower gear because the engine is about to wind up to maximum Speed.
@theflipphonechannel8198
@theflipphonechannel8198 Год назад
Thanks for explaining this! I have a '95 Infiniti Q45 and when you push the gas pedal down all the way it clicks. I guess the click is what actuates that cable

It's not a kickdown. The transmission in these are Electronically controlled, there's no need for a mechanical kickdown. Also neither of the cables goto the transmission. It's 3 cables one goes to the pedal, ones it he Cruise control and the last links the linkage on the right hand side to the throttle body.
@glavos7536
@glavos7536 Год назад
btw there's an actual Kickdown button on the pedal assembly that tells the TCU when to kick down. That's what you feels when pressing the pedal.

@@glavos7536 thank you for the clarification, like I mentioned in my original post I wasn't sure if it was electronically controlled (because some manufacturers still had mechanically controlled transmissions back then, and electronically controlled transmissions were just becoming mainstream) and it shows that even before their partnership with Renault, they were being cutting edge and innovative!

The throttle cables, ABS module, etc are in funky sports because the engine was designed for a LHD car. All of that would be more direct and make a lot more sense if the pedals were on the left side of the car.
@Flofutz
@Flofutz Год назад
I like my Late 80ties nissans Everything is somehow thought out. Every line every pipe and cable is taken care of. The ignition has a separate system to the crank angle sensor. You get OBD by turning a pod with a screwdriver. It knows you want to go full throttle before the pedal is down all the way because it is checking how fast you push it down. It is close to unstallable because it has its own fast responding throttle body. If you put your foot on the cluch the ECU puts the engine in a different timing and fueling mode to assist with launch. The inside of the Car goes on like this, no Color mismatch no squeaky noises. Every Switch feels like it would last another 30 years. Electrical systems don't fail apart from used up brushes from the altenator. And even if the altenator fails, engine management would work down to 8. something volts because all important systems run on their own voltage regulator. And thats a 1986 B12 Sunny coupe... only one bar over the lowest class nissan would make. We lost it in the mid 90ties when features became more important than long therm cars.

I had a 1994.Q45. Great car. Mine was green with a white leather interior. Doors, dash, even the face of the dash was wrapped with real leather. No one knew what it was and I was fine with that. When asked what it was, I'd always respond "Nissan". Very smooth highway cruiser. Extremely weak transmissions, as I went through 3 of them before I sold the car at 175k miles. Surprisingly few squeaks and rattles, even after 175k miles. My luck with the 2004 M45 wouldn't be as good - took the first 75k miles to get rid of the squeaks on that car. Both still light years ahead of Mercedes on that front. It also was a ridiculously heavy car and definitely put some wear on the tires. It demanded tires with a stiffer sidewall. One time I put Bridgestones in instead of my usual Goodyears and regretted it, as it made the car wobbly. Goodyears went back on and life was good. It was also the only car I ever owned with a dome light. I put red theatrical lighting gels in the front reading lamps and it was awesome, especially with the white leather interior. I did a lot of night driving and left them on at night. One last tidbit: this was also the first car I had where you could control radio volume from the steering wheel. It did so by using a little motor to manually turn the radio's volume knob. The radio also had a motorized door which covered the bass / treble /balance / fader / Dolby controls. And the CD changer was an extra $1,000 which I refused to pay on principle, so cassette.adapter and Sony Disc man or laptop it was. Some of the Nissan Presidents did have a pull down front seat back to turn the rear seat into a lay flat bed.

1990s Nissan are great. I still remember my poorly maintained I30 from 2000 and it had 380,000km on it before it got written off in a hailstorm. The car drove like a dream after I did a quick tune up. It also feels like the newer Nissan stuff coming out is moving back to higher build quality. Out of the none luxury department they have the best interior build quality and I work with a lot of newer vehicles for work

The Q45 was a real curiosity when it came out in the US, I remember the general take being praise that Nissan wasn't afraid to experiment with styling and appeal to a younger buyer, while Lexus and Acura were snorefests meant for your retired aunt spending your dead uncle's generous pension. It's funny that the Q45 was just a slight redesign of the President seeing as its styling is not very adventurous at all, but the slight redesign they did was certainly a head turner back in the late 80's. Buying a Q45 meant that although you have a 401K, you're still dtf, and as a teenager I respected that.

that transmission feature where it holds the gear, maybe that was intentional like you said in case someone with the need to outrun or get away from someone was being pursued? seems to be the type of problem the people that would be in the back of these things might have. Someone below mentioned that in their q45 when they floor it all the way it "clicks" at the bottom, perhaps that click is what is holding the gear. You said it shifted once you lifted.

A lot of people use to manually shift the older q45s because of this. Plus it came with a gated shifter which I don't think this one had....

12:09 those aren't Nissan wheels, they look like knockoff A90 Supra wheels with Nissan center caps. I say knockoffs because actual Supra wheels wouldn't work in a President (different bolt patterns in both cars)

While President never got the chance, Nissan did won royal family limousine once, all the way back in 1967. Prince Royal Limousine was Japan’s royal family’s ride for 38 years until 2005 because Nissan told them to stop. Then they switched to Toyota Century, and it’s been Toyota ever since.

Man the front of that thing really has XJ40 vibes specifically with the square headlights and hood/grill shape lol. Make sense since the XJ40 was 88-94' so it was contemporary with it.
