When did NBC finally join the 20th Century and include the yardage in their graphics? Shinnecock isn't like the Masters where we know all the distances.

Why do these videos have the smeared panes on the sides. Why not a clear full screen?

The original TV broadcast was a 4:3 ratio which was what TV was before 16:9 HD broadcasts. The USGA added the sides as "filler" when uploading it which is a common technique when posting 4:3 content. I agree though. It looks a little funny.

4:45:15… I heard Corey was super pissed at Norman for the way he delivered his post-round congratulations. I think Norman’s “welcome to the club” comment at the end ticked him off, which was odd. Norman came over with his wife, after another heart-breaking final round major loss, and was super gracious to offer his congratulations. But, Corey didn’t like the “way” he congratulated him. Super sour grapes… I’m glad he never won another major.

Listening to Greg Norman interview at 1:52 mark, he sounds like the quintessential LOSER!! Love when he says “ Winning isn’t everything, it’s putting yourself in position to win” … THEN CHOKING!! Vince Lombardi would have had NO USE FOR GREG NORMAN!! Show me a guy who says @ Winning isn’t everything “ & I’ll show you a LOSER!! It’s Norman’s way to validate his being a LOSER!! It’s Amazing that he won 2 Majors!! ‘96 Masters was the BIGGEST CHOKE!! Oh, even in my Bowling 🎳 League I want to WIN THE GAME.. DESTROY THE OTHER TEAM!! No ROOM FOR JELLY FISHES!! I want to humiliate every team we play.. People say I’m too intense.. Don’t care.. There’s time to be nice after Bowling..

He won his two majors and a TPC in pretty dominant style. He didn’t have to rely on guys fluffing short putts and hitting into ponds.

No dude. 89 career victories, 2 British Opens (one with a Faldo chasing and a nearly perfect final round 64), course record at Players Championship (-24) and just a ton of really good putts here on the back 9 that just missed. Admittedly, he did not have Nicklaus/Woods/Faldo killer instinct on Sunday obviously, especially in 96 where the wheels did come off. But, Norman barely missed a birdie putt on 18 at 87' Masters - it was a great effort that was going in the whole way until it didn't (and we all know what happened in the playoff); same with 1993 PGA against Azinger - playoff birdie attempt for the win went into the hole and then came out. If there was a contest to see how close a putt can come for victory and not stay down, Norman would have won that contest in both 87 and 93. Neither of those putts were "chokes".

The level of play I’m sorry to say is nothing compared to the level of the last 20 years. Wind, US open tough course granted but these guys are hitting a lot of real poor shots.
@bretts4544
@bretts4544 9 месяцев назад
You can’t really compare eras based off a single final round. The first half of the field played really well. You have Neal Lancaster who finished with 65 before the last group even teed off, and he finished T4. A decent amount of rounds in the high 60s, but only from the earlier groups. Only Corey Pavin shot under par out of the final 6 groups. I think this final round was a combination of wind and a little extra nerves from the leaders than usual. Watch the 2003 U.S Open if you want to see AWFUL play from the leaders except the last group.
@tomretallick1719

@@bretts4544 I comparing the the two eras on a couple of things. One their missing fairways with irons of the tee, missing badly and hitting very few greens. Windy yes but the course is links style wide enough to hit fairways and greens. Only Pavin who could really shape the ball found fairways and greens. Overall their short games aren’t near as varied and sharp as the post Tiger Woods era. I really think that Tiger pushed the game into a new era beyond the Hogan/Palmer/Nicklaus model by being all of them combined. Power the ability to shape shots, incredible out of trouble, stellar short game and one of the best putters ever. Though no one has consistently reached his level the next era had a bar set so high that they all got better. I’m 65 and a close follower and rewatching these Opens has opened my eyes to how far the game at the top level has progressed. Good comment enjoyed giving my take!!
