This is my dad's 96 zrt I bought for him for his birthday. I cleaned it up a little bit, I painted the pipes, buffed and waxed the hood, and just cleaned up a few little pieces and parts. She is a bit slow off bottom end, but she screams in the mid to high range. It also has a dg can with stock pipes.

Something about the way a two stroke triple sounds. This was the golden age of muscle sleds. Didn't turn well didn't stop that great but my god were they monsters when you pinned the throttle.

That 1996 turns like a corvette on rails and one finger quick stops. Only downfall was large moguls. That’s like the muscle car era, sexy beasts.

I found a 96 zrt 600 for sale that came out of an old fallen barn. It was filthy! An old guy sold it to me for cheap. Brought it home, pressure washed what i could, checked compression(120 psi on all cylinders), cleaned the carbs, and the cat fired up! Damn she sounds so mean! Not as nice as the one in this video but she's getting there. Sold my 97 ultra spx! Lol

God that brought back memories. I had the same sled with the same exhaust back in high school. There is no better sound than that buddy!!!!

That was the fastest 600 triple made. I had the same sled with D&D triple pipes and silencers. Other brands 600’s could not touch it.

Best year for the ZRT I own one, not as nice as yours, yet fast as hell. Your seat is in beautiful shape too. Nice sled. I will get a early 90's T-cat eventually.

My dad had that sled brand new with a mountain cat track. First time I rode it I felt like I was on top of the world. It was such a beast! It did foul plugs often.

Love them. I have a 96'. I've had er up to 100mph bone stock. Which is flyin' for carrying a 6'3" 300lb guy.

Shit yeA they would run with my 95 wildcat and if i didnt have shit changed from stock to a few mods those zrts would haul ass around me on top end my 700 was around 115/118 horse vs 118/123 zrt stock form.

Its really disappointing to see what people have done to them. Still got mine, snow-checked in the spring of '95 and delivered in Oct '95. Riding during the muscle era was AMAZING and its disheartening to see the relics theyve become.

Got a 96 zrt 600 . Sounds the same love the sled . Needs new reeds bad .got a parts sled has brand new carbs and v force reeds .gonna do a motor swap in the off season . Hard on gas is an understatement . But the bad reeds are no help I'm sure .

Fastest production sled in the 90s. These things are monsters. I have mine fully moded theirs rights behind secondary clutch i snap mine all the time. Had to put dimind rights in at 5 dollars a rivit and needed a hydraulic right press to put them in and I still broke them

But is a beautiful snowmobile though, i used to have a ZR 580 twin.. Loved it... Except mine had the metal skis not the plastic ones. I wished it had the plastic skis. They seem to look better on these sleds.

@@sledhead78, when I bought it the guy said he rebuilt it a few years ago and it runs like it was. i don't have a compression tester to check, it has pretty good compression.

Why do a Compression test Because any knowlegable 2 stroke person knows what a healthy motor should put out. 120psi for stock motor is adiquit . 150psi and above for something that's been heavily modified. My 94xlt580 mono block triple has 150psi with SLP billet heads ported cylinders and wiesco pro lites. Stock it had around 120psi. Just because that 600 cat seems like it had compression when pulling it over doesn't mean it's fine. Who's to say the guy who rebuilt it made sure the tolerances are to spec cylinders are in round,ect. Could be a plug fowling pig when you get it out in the trails. 🖒🏁

Grant in the 90s the wildcat 650 was the fastest production artic cat. Not the ZR.. The ZR was the 2nd fastest production sled. I had a wildcat 650 as well as a ZR and the wildcat blew past the ZR like it was sitting still everytime. Heres the kicker both sleds were bone stock. Not one mod one either one.

I second this... still have mine, bought new in spring of '95, delivered in Oct 95. They are fast and sound like nothing else but they were NOT quality. Motor mounts didnt hold up, over-oiled from the factory, over-jetted from the factory, water pump weepage, pipes crack at the collars, exhaust ports dont seal for nothing, they chew through stators. Again, I love mine and still ride it every year. Got almost 1,000 miles so far this year. Theyre a love affair like the old Harleys. Every hour of riding gets 2 hours of wrenching.
