Two 1 lose teams, Tenn 10-1 OSU 11-1 , both in the top 5, and the heisman winner! The citrus bowl hit The lottery in 95. Never again will you see 2 teams this good play in this bowl!
If this was in the playoffs or bcs era one of these teams would have made it. Amazing the Citrus Bowl had the 2nd best bowl game matchup after the Fiesta Bowl that year. Also it seemed like every bowl game in Florida during the day was raining like crazy.
Coming from a Michigan fan - Ohio St 1995 were one of the best CFB teams to not win a national championship. Tennessee were also great this year. Both of these teams deserved to be in a bigger bowl game.
@@brasstaxz7030 3 if you count his time at Arizona State. He had a dreadful 2-8-1 record against Michigan at Ohio State.Still after only 1 season with less than 3 losses from 77 to 92, 3 1 loss seasons and 1 2 loss season was a welcome change. He also won 3 Bowl Games Rose Sugar and Holiday. Not too shabby. He didn't do as well as Jim Tressel or Urban Meyer.Still he was a good coach.
What I wanna know is how did Cooper last as soon as he did??? Took him 7 years to finally beat Michigan, 8 years to finally have a top 10 ranked team, 9 years to finally win a major bowl game...

Back when stars played in bowl games and teams really wanted to win. Vols had more speed than OSU but more importantly the hit harder than OSU, Leonard Little jacked Eddie George's jaw and he couldn't score from the 1. That was the turning point, good win for the Vols and continued dominance over Big 10. Helpful hint, check out UT/Michigan from the same bowl game, Jason Witten outran the whole Michigan secondary, Michigan way slow. Inferior stadium, too.
I know the SEC has a reputation for speed advantages over other conferences but in this game, they just manhandled OSU on the line on both sides of the ball. By the end of the game Hoying was hearing foot steps even if there was no pressure.
Ya but might’ve been because 19 players were wearing illegal soccer cleats OSU was slipping all over the field Tennessee had good footing you realize there’s only 22 starters on offense and defense combined & 19 players were wearing illegal soccer cleats and the explanation Tennessee gave to the NCAA and the NCAA bought it no penalties or punishment whatever the victory should’ve been avoided cheaters , OSU got hammered for four players giving big10 champion chip ring and Autographs for tattoos that didn’t help them win any games but that helped Tennessee .
right. bucks outgained the vols because they were intimidated. brother. 4 tosu turnovers and the vols' goal-line stand in the 2nd qtr were the differences in that very evenly matched game.
@@jamesmarkscott6202 TNs running back was running all over the place and Hoying was scared of his own shadow by the end of the game. Dudley had a big game to keep them in it, and it was a good game. However, on line play alone it looked like the Vols dominated both sides. With all their weapons probably the one time a Big 10 team wanted to play an SEC team in better weather lol.
Because they're overrated like most Ohio State teams every year due to undeserved media favoritism? This Tennessee team was good, but only the 3rd best in the 90s, and still beat OSU. Just imagine how bad OSU would have fared against Nebraska that year.
@@haroldfarquad6886 Ohio State looked good against Notre Dame and Penn State. They fizzled last 2 games.Ironically next year's Ohio State 😳team was less talented and won Rose 🌹
@@nathaniellathy6559 your comment is completely irrelevant to anything I said. If you're going to attempt to defend the perennial cuckholdry of the media over OSU, at least try to stay focused on the comment at hand. But for what it's worth, Notre Dame is the only program who outmatches OSU for unwarranted media bias on a yearly basis. Penn State doesn't warrant the same critique, they haven't been elite since the late 80s and haven't been treated like they should be, unlike OSU and Notre Dame.
@@haroldfarquad6886 um Penn State should have won Natty in 94.Notre Dame in 93.Ohio State could have been voted No. 1 in 96.Life does exist outside SEC
@@nathaniellathy6559 woulda, coulda, shoulda...you can play that sorry game all day. Peyton should have won the 97 Heisman, but he didn't and that's just the way it is. The fact is those teams didn't win the Natty. Those years proved how stupid the bowl system was, but the SEC only claimed one of the four national championships in question, so not sure what your point is bringing up the SEC. FSU deserved their title, as did Nebraska and Florida. My point is still valid that Notre Dame and OSU think they deserve more than they earn, as demonstrated by your delusional take. If ND "should have won" in 93, they should have beaten 17th ranked Boston College AT HOME. If OSU "could have" been voted #1 in 96, they shouldn't have lost AT HOME to 21st ranked Michigan. Penn State did get hosed at a shot in 94, but like I said, the bowl system then was stupid, and it's not like anyone was going to beat Nebraska that year.
Can't be a coach at Florida without being a classless asshole with poor sportsmanship and a big mouth. Spurrier, Muschamp, and Mullen are all perfect examples of the sort of bombastic blowhards Florida attracts to coach their team of felons. Edit: I forgot the worst of them all: Urban Meyer and his national championship teams of thugs, murderers, and self absorbed "golden boy" Tebow.
I am a lifelong Vols fan, but you are smoking some whacky stuff to make a statement like this. UT had four very good teams in the 90s, but with only two SEC championships, one natty, and a lackluster record against Florida.. Alabama in the last decade far surpasses that record, along with any other program in all of college football history. The only teams you might put in the same conversation are 80s Miami or 90s Nebraska.
