Bought a LCE header for my 3RZ with 200,000 miles plus. To be honest the power difference is less than noticeable but check out the difference in 0-60 times; is it measurable?
You really need the manual transmission to get the best from these engines. My little 2WD w/ 2RZ & the same header hits 60 in about 1/2 this amount of time.
Yeah, its been tough to find a compatible wiring harness. I have one from a 98 prereunner but I know there will be some missing wires. Definitely, wish I had waited a bit and gotten a manual transmission back in 2001.
Are you running big 33" tires? That makes all the difference in the world. You can run the 3RZ 4x4 w/automatic down to a 225 tire, and it will feel like a race car, compared to these big 33" meats.
@@craigphillips1047 Back when I bought mine brand new in 2000, the Toyota dealers had them come with 265's, which are practically a 30" tire, just shy of it. Ran those for years, but I now take care of my elderly mother, so I switched down to the 225's, so she can get in & out of the truck. The first time I downsized to the 225's and took off from the tire shop, it felt like a little hot rod compared to the bigger 265's.
9 seconds seems a little quick but I would be curious what I would get with a 5 speed manual. Needs 4.56 gears to deal with the 33" tires too. Bodylift might cause a little wind resistance too.
@craigphillips1047 She'll be getting the correct gearing ⚙️ soon and 1 tons, so finally the right gears, but around another 1000 lbs of axles, I don't care for speed, I built my First Gen for offroad, I'm going to be making it slower with F350 axles and from 38 inch tires to 40s! And lower geared t-cases. She ain't winning no races, but a little more power on road would be nice, I recently installed the LCE header and I love my super dependable 3RZ, my friend said to me the other day "You should do a LS swap" I said "That would be a down grade!" Why would I put a not as dependable motor In my truck, and remove a far superior motor? Especially that even stock I can offroad all day in 90+ degree weather with the AC on , in black + trails, for something that would probably overheat and blow up? I was a Jeep guy, but after driving my Toyota for a few years, through all sorts of obstacles and NY horrible roads, I ain't going back to the Jeep garbage! I'm driving Toyotas for life! Best vehicles made!
I'm not surprised. I'm not sure if the tires are the main issue or if the engine is "tired" (had some compression concerns in the #4 cylinder or if the transmission has been extra sloppy since its rebuild 30K or so ago.
@@craigphillips1047 I rebuilt the 3RZ engine in my 2000 4x4 w/auto trans @ 378,000 miles, due to a blown head gasket, but went ahead & rebuilt the whole engine including a new Stage 1 head from LCE. Now at 390,000 miles & still no issues with my transmission. I towed trailer loads at work of around 2000 to 2800 lbs throughout the week at work, about 80% of the time during the first 250,000 miles on mine. But I never ran those giant 33" tires & lift kit either. I've always kept 265's or 30" tires on it for most of the time. No body lift. Right now, I'm running the smallest tire you can run on these, a 225. Truck is quicker now vs the 265's or 30" tires, and way quicker than what you're getting with those 33's. I can just about guarantee it's those big tires.
@@howabouthetruth2157 I should have kept some steel rims and put some tiny tires on and see what I get. I have the big tundra breaks so I will probably need to find some cheap steel 1st gen tundra rims. I think I had some 26” tires when I bought it in 2001; it felt like a rocket ship compared to my carbureted 87 with 31 tires (albeit 5 speed manual)
@@craigphillips1047 Oh yeah, I bet it did. Seems like the 225's are about a 26" tire. I could be wrong, I would have to go check. All I know, is 225's are the smallest tire I can go with on mine.
@@craigphillips1047 I ordered a 3rz motor for the truck and some headers. Got the headers, and I might put them on the 2rz just for a little bit extra power. Wanna get a cold air intake for it as well. Nothin too much, just enough to go when I need it to
