You are literally a lifesaver!!! The little rod that opens the trunk on my 1997 328i convertible popped off and I couldn't open it with the push-button. Yes I damaged a little bit of plastic trim but what BMW DOESN'T have brittle/already broken plastic?!
OMG - thank you sooooo much!!! got keys locked in trunk (long story). Because of this video we were able to get in trunk, get out keys and drive home. Thank you for taking the time to make this video and post it.
Thank you for taking the time to shoot this video. Saved me a lot of hassle and drilling. Course, you need to not have a lot of stuff in your trunk, but after getting the extensions the bolts came out with much hassle. The bold plane is not a 90 degree angle from the ground, so you have to make sure you kind of arc the socket over to get a flush grip on the bolt. Thank you sir!
Excellent, just saved me a lot of time and trouble. One thing, I did not have to cut my carpet. Instead I just pushed it out at the bottom and it came loose.
Yes indeed, this does work, but expect to buy a new trim piece for the trunk. The trunk lid will raise an inch or so and stop because the latch is encased under a trim piece on the rear trunk wall. You really have to pull hard to break the trim. It is easiest to have two people lift from the trunk lid edge near the bumper, rather than to try to lift from just above the license plate. I would much prefer replacing the trim piece than paying the stearlerhip three times the trim piece to purchace a hole behind the licence plate that would take all day in the shop anyway. To make the trunk immediatey lockable, as well as to prevent the linkage from failing again, just remove the failed plastic keeper on the 'L' shaped linkage, reinsert the 'L' shaped linkage, use a pair of needle nose pliers to gently bend the 'L'shaped linkage into a 'J' shape. It will never fail again, and is completely reversible if you do ever want the original configuration. Then if you choose, you can supper glue the trim until you find a replacement.
Where were you when my wife locked the key in the trunk. And i used a zip cut throught the trunk lid to stick my arm in an feel around for the thing. I did this in the parking lot. Now i have a fiber bond shht looking repair.
Good video, did this on a 98 328i sedan, if your interior trim above the retainer is intact you may have to break a small portion to allow the trunk latch receiving end to lift off the body
Well, this would be a last resort. When my 1997 BMW 328i convert has this problem, it was due to a sensor not detecting that the top lid was fully closed. Even though it appeared secure, I pushed down on the lid all around and the lock then worked.
My whole trunk latch arms came out of place.idk how but nothing is connected to each other. I followed the steps. But it's really hard to pop up the trunk. Does the plastic around the trunk latch break off? How much force did you have to use?
I need some help. I have 1998 e36 M3 convertible...I got the bolts out, but I can't seem to lift the trunk out. Did you have to use a lot of force to get it out? I am a little afraid that if I use too much force I will break the latch...Any thoughts, anyone
Hello, Please let me know where I can buy the 10 mm extension sockets? Please help the trunk opens only 3 mm to turn the trunk lights on, now the battery in the trunk is dead & I need to change the battery.
