Cycle World raced one of these in the ¼ mile against a VF500F Interceptor back in the day, to make it fair they put a street tire on the back of it and drastically changed the sprockets, the CR won hands down even after they switched riders after the first 2 of 4 passes, but the results came out the same on the last two. A dirt bike beating a street bike in the quarter mile was an absolute sensation at the time.
@@kmx509 makes sense, mines also a four stroke so you know. Teeny tiny 02 xr100r, hand me down from my cousins. It still goes up and down all the well roads and pipeline roads really good though! I rode it down the side of the mountain one time (like where they clear it so trees don’t grow through the pipeline) and didn’t even dump it, good thing it’s so light. Tis a delightful little bike!
@@kmx509 oh sweet! Yeah I’m looking for a bigger bike rn, but you can figure on how well that’s going haha. I do like my little Ike though, I should learn to wheelie on it before I get a bigger bike I think
I’ve been saying my entire life since I was younger that I just want to ride a cr500 one time. I can only imagine the power and adrenaline rush!! Riding one down the street and back is on my MUST DO bucket list!! Just have to find someone who owns one!! God bless to all! Happy Memorial Day.
Riding a cr500 10 years ago was one of the scariest and most fun things I've done. Hopefully one day I'll have the skill to actually rip on one. Can't wait to get back on a bike. Much love.
I agree, yet disagree to a point. The new 450’s are just too powerful to be fun. Pro riders racing now, half their battle is just taming or staying on the bike. I still believe that the cr500 would definitely come out on top. But I think the sport has outgrown itself in a way. The bikes are too powerful, and the riders have to fight the bike more than the other riders. I think the most exciting time in super cross was when the 250’s and 450’s were battling it out. Just my opinion. I love power don’t get me wrong but these new bikes are insane for super cross. It’s kind of boring to watch really anymore.
@@Sockatv77 I have to be honest I can cane a 450 4 stroke a lot more than the kx500 I owned because it was just dangerous power, very smooth to a certain extent but when pushing the limits the kx 500 turned into a very dangerous machine very quickly ! A modern 4 stroke has the power but it’s manageable, light, handles well, very fast if used correctly which most can’t do ( including me these days ) but a two stroke 500 is a lethal thing in the wrong hands, I love two strokes myself cos I grew up with them 😎✊
@@Davido50 you have no idea, I’ve been riding two strokes since I was a nipper, every kind and make and the 90s two strokes, I was a mx expert and they were all were all rippers and I ride 4 strokes also
😂wow that bike is so sick love the cr had a few not 500s but 80s 125s only 500 I have ever rode was my buddy's quadzilla bike was nuts love the content ,awesome channel great bunch of guys GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!
Nice work! Looks like that bike is running perfect! I would touch a thing. It's very rare to see a two stroke not blow the least little bit of smoke, not even on startup... I'd give anything to see a modern FI 500 cc 2 stroke developed by the likes of ktm with their amazing ergonomics
Boy I sure miss my 98 CR500. Bought it from Anderson Honda in Bloomfield hills Michigan. That's a bike I should have kept. I've been roosted by another CR500 with a chest protector and it hurt like hell. I threw a rock one time and hit my buddy's brake lever and snapped it in half on a CR that he was following me with.
Nobody NEEDS that much power, but God damn does it make for some great stories and conversations! I'm 37, been riding since 3 and I have YET to get on a 500 2-Stroke. That's by choice... 🤣
YES, of course the CR500 is the BEST MX/DIRT bike ever! So much personality and finesse, and you knew that the 2-stroke motor was 'instant on', like a TESLA PLAID! And that glorious 2-stroke sound signature..... OH THAT SOUND!!!
It's true you definitely don't want to follow a CR500 around the racetrack, unless of course you're on a kx500, because the chaos will smoke it! That being said I still don't knock Honda Cali and Honda or one of my two favorite bikes
JESUS!!! 97 Heaven right there brother! Happy memorial day as well Ken and Thank you personally to each and every ultimate Hero that gave the ultimate Sacrifice for guys like me and guys like Ken for us to be able to call this place home and rip around on awesome bikes! God Bless AMERICA
im glad to see ya kept the boat lol you n the wizard are still like little kids which is cool to see your never to old to have fun even though i think you get your senior discount now dont ya lol
best motocross bike of all times ????? let me back it up with a little bit from history . after the release of the CR250R in 1973 it didn't take long for the hot shoes to figure out you could run circles around open class bikes on the short outdoor supercross tracks of the Midwest ..and by 1974 most all open class racing was a solid field of all CR250R Honda Elsinore that dry weight was around 214 lbs pumping out 30HP stock but it was the close ratio 5 speed gearing that was so low with only 65mph topped out that made the light weight 250 a bullet in open class traffic on short tracks ...that's when the AMA passed a new rule there will be no more 250s allowed to enter in the open class. Shortly after that's when you start seeing the Mugen endorsement Honda Elsinore 250 as it had became a cheater 310cc making it legal again for the open class ...then pop Yoshimura raise the bar that became the game changer has Yoshimura designer of Honda's very first two stroke developed the cr450r then came the cr480r with later 5-speed transmissions Factory prototype 500 air-cooled. To what you have today that they certainly don't call them...Maico Breako do they ? wanna know where the slang maico breako came from ? once up on a time there was a young racer who at 17 years old decided the easy way to go pro was to acquire all the pro bikes ..so one night after stealing an 18 wheeler he backed it up to the back alley door of Galaxy cycle sales and filled the 18-wheeler with 441 victors 750 Hornet dirt trackers all sizes of Yamaha MX huskys bultacos pentons and OSSA and the entire parts room and headed west ...then about a month later while attending a race someone got suspicious Somewhere in Arizona and my pal Brad Lake was extradited back to Terre Haute Indiana Two-Face them theft charges drum another friend of mine Jim Lambert of Galaxy cycle sales I'm a dealership up nothing but bare floors and bare walls a few nuts and bolts banners tore up as Brad made a quick getaway..so in order to keep brad from being sentenced to the terre haute federal pen , Brad Lakes dad who is a man of Deep Pockets bought the Maico franchise for the United States and brad became the first Maico importer and Maico's first USA team maico pro rider ..and in around 1976 ma ico sends brad a first ever prototype of to come later a wr400 radial head with 12 inches travel of ceriani forks on the front and 12 inches travel of gas-filled marzocchi with a hand-built coffin Style aluminum gas tank and the first year ever for plastic fenders actually a year before they even came out on a production Maico as Brad finds out very quickly he has no competition anywhere he goes at all. And turns to his old pal Chucky the rat yours truly for advice on how to discourage new customers has Brad to give a s*** less if he sold one more and being in the top 10 in a month later to be second in the nation red turns to me and says think of something quick that'll catch on to discourage sales so off the top of my head I came up with how about Maico Breako ? and brad spead it across the USA in no time ...and since brad was being supplied with the latest high teche factory werks prototypes valued at $35k was brads excuse why his ma ico never broke ...and to rub it in brad was always late to the gate holding up the race ..our local track was a 50 yard dash to a super wide 180 degree right turn as brad always took the outside line starting in 3Rd gear thanking all his buddies waiting for him for saving his spot on the gates ..with a last remark that went like " sorry I m late guys oh by the way whos turn is it to win today ? that's right its MY TURN ... BRAAAAAAPA caution twisted throttle
@@jonnybensonder991 he served your country (reagan, Carter, bush, Clinton who invited him at the White House were all dumbs?) and what he got back was a lot of hate by some americans. He didn’t make crappy music (most sold solo artist in history) and he didn’t touch kids. I can see in US you’re still very uninformed. Get your info.
You lucky 🍀 son of a gun you 😃😃😃 you have one of the greatest jobs there is , test riding all those great bikes . Good for you 👍 I hope to get one myself here pretty soon . The CR 500 is a smile maker for sure

So I don't really know anything about the massive, beautiful Cr 500 But don't all 500's rip??!!!! Lol Mr. Kaplan I literally live vicariously through you!!!! 😆🤣😂😹
@@Dennisthemenace40 Sorry for the lose of your buddy Dave, that was a ballsy move. Vans are quite popular again and I wear them daily. I prob wouldn't attempt a 500 start myself personally in them lol. I basically tore in half the stitched leather top to bottom on a Timberland work boot also a chunk of the midsole + purpling my whole foot on Cr250 when i was a kid. It was amazing how the boot blew apart lol. The force was tremendous!
@@Dennisthemenace40 i have a friend Terry i grew up with who sounds like your buddy Dave. He was crazy an talented at everything. I had just got him into buying a bike but sadly we never got to finish it. Its a 89 cr125 and the stripped frame an other parts are out being sorted out now so he can look down an see it running someday. To all the good friends we've lost beother! Live for them
What a beautiful bike. Nothing like 3rd gear power band on a CR500 one of the only bikes I could never tame. She sounds so mean didn't miss a beat. They don't make them like that anymore. People now a days can't handle that power and torque. I wish I could smell the 2 stroke while that fatty pipe is screaming in my ears. I will have me a CR500 again one day.
About 15 years ago a mate decided to buy a CR500 and turn into a supermoto? So he did. It looked great and sounded like the devil with haemorrhoids, he rode it once, about 5 miles, and scared the living be jesus out of himself. Later that same day he traded it in against a fireblade, something a bit more user friendly!
That bike sounds way angry!!!! Thanks for providing me with this sonic therapy tonight as a pretty much die hard Honda rider since the early 90s... ( it was all Yamaha from 76 til 89..).. its gotta feel good getting a fist full of throttle on that beast!!! Happy memorial day!!!
You know I’m gonna say it 😂🤙 xr628r will make u say the same thing lol Leave a 6th gear hole shot all day foot deep lol I’m running 52 tooth rear also .🔥 I love your channel lol always sound like a hater on the big 2 strokes but this 628 is so far from what anyones seen or rode I just want you to ride it so bad so u can say holy shit he was rite 😆🔥🤙💪
My riding buddy tom, had a 90 cr500 and I rode it once. Still to this day just remember the almost unlimited pull when the throttle was opened. The term " rocketship " was justified.
Sweet Sweet music. Something I never figured out about CR500 videos. I'm 6'2" my buddy is 6'4. We are not what you might call midgets . Both of our CR500s seat, not the handle bars the seat is titty high on us. What are you 8'?

2 stroke are the shit. 4stroke are okay. 500's just rock the world for every one . Use to ride a 89 car 500 . When I was 19 yrs. Couldn't keep front wheel on ground for the life of me
I said before all about my 92 CR 500 all the work that I had done to the bike but cases never split!! Sat for 17 years started 2nd kick I was trying for the first!!! The bike was only riden 10 Times sense new Iv road many many Big bore bikes this one was the fastest by far !! and I had a 97 Honda CR500 really smooth but my 92:would just walk an way from It!!! Now in December I bought a Honda 2022 CRF 450 RL all ready Piped it u have to refinice your house for that !!! waiting for my $900 ECU !! The Supper Brain !! supper cross tires, below handelbar mirrors , high direct fender mounted LIC, air box, gold Oring chain , 14 tooth counter sprocket , next a thermostat delete kit there are so many things you want to do to these bikes ! That don't come factory with these beast ! Totally surprised these 4 Stroke s have this much HP and bottem end instancely ! Could not believe a 4 Stroke could do that. !!! But it is fuel injected ! LOL OH it is really stiff off road ! A friend specialize in suspension and porting Going to have him a adjust compression and Rebound ! He said To get 5 hours on it first!!!
I love this vidéo man!! That bike rocks not many speed shift on on a cr 500! I never used my cluch on 97 cr 500 unless i had too!!,i my tranny gears sraved a hair so i could bang the gears off wide open with out using my cluch!
