And of course the NFL during this time. They were awesome in the mid 90s with everything!! They are not what they used to be. Yes there NFL coverage today is pretty good and NHL coverage was good, but they are not near the greatness and epicenes they were in the mid 90s with their NFL and MLB coverage and their NBA coverage from there 90s to 2002.
I was 5, 7, and 26 years old for all three World Series. We had the best team in 95 but the Braves just beat us. When the ball went over Nagy's head in 97, I cried the next day at school. And 2016 hurts the most still. I always find it funny that Jim Leyland is from Perrysburg, Ohio...
True. Too bad that excellent NBC MLB announcing crew led by Costas was only around 5 years from '95-2000. And this series is very underrated as a good one. Maybe the 2nd best fall classic of the '90's.
Olbermann was great on SportsCenter for many years, I thought he was pretty solid as a pre-postgame guy here and for Fox during this time. If you resent him for his political stances after he left ESPN that's another story but that doesn't diminish what he did as a sports guy either way.
Montana Roots when you’re the #2 behind vin scully, it’s hard to get the spotlight. Costas didn’t become the top guy until NBC was no longer doing the GOTW, and in fact no regular season games at all (besides “baseball night” a few times in 1995)
Not a Marlins or Indians fan, but this one was one of the best World Series I ever saw. As a baseball fan nothing better than a dramatic finish at the end, similar to the 1991 WS.

The music at the very beginning of this intro is beautiful too. I recall FOX used it for some of their intros during the 2001 World Series, particularly the games in Arizona. It fits NBC's image better though.
Jaret Wright was two outs away from being to Cleveland what Don Larsen is to the Yankees. He would've been the World Series MVP (though you could have argued for Sandy Alomar Jr, just as Moises Alou should have won it for Florida) and was fantastic.

Me too. The '97 Indians not as good as the '95 team was slightly better than also very good Marlins team. This was an evenly matched series. If this game 7 was in Cleveland the Indians probably wins this. Even with game 7 in South Fla. if the Indians had a good closer they still win the series. Still the Marlins made history as the first EVER WILD CARD TO WIN THE World series.
Bob Costas' narration and the Air Force One theme makes this intro so amazing! This is hands down the greatest intro to any MLB game ever. And it would turn out to be the intro to one of the greatest World Series games, actually one of the greatest MLB games of all time. I wish NBC Sports had never got rid of the MLB. Curse you Fox! I hate your baseball coverage. I hate Joe Buck. Costas is in another league compared to Buck. While I don't really like Joe Morgan, he might've been 10 times better than Tim McCarver. And having "Mr. Baseball," Bob Uecker in the booth was also amazing. I really think NBC should have been the main MLB broadcaster instead of Fox beginning in 1996. But because of the problems that The Baseball Network brought, NBC decided to back out, and instead take certain games. Big mistake.
Also, I personally like the theme used from 1996 to 1997 over the theme used for the next three seasons. I know NBC uses this theme for Olympics coverage, but for me, the theme just makes me think that an awesome baseball game is about to come on.

As a 7 year old Cleveland fan in 1997, I was crushed. At 26 I would be crushed again in 2016. 1995 wasn't that bad because the Braves were really good.
This intro is a million times better than FOX, especially since FOX uses their football theme for baseball! NBCs intro here sounded like an epic baseball intro; FOX's intro doesn't sound epic at all.
Jason Jones Great point. I don't know why FOX switched the theme to their football theme. When FOX first got MLB they had a baseball theme and used it for years.
Exactly. It sounds more like "We are too lazy to come up with another theme song, so we'll just use our football one." Which is weird because they had their own baseball theme for years.
@@sarnow76 the reason why is because Fox realized that the NFL theme is so recognizable. They thought, hmm....why don't we put this with every other sport we have. People only recognize the football theme, so that needs to be our only theme.
This was the next to last World Series on a network other than Fox. After NBC carried the 1999 Fall Classic, Fox has aired every World Series since 2000.
