The bezel is held on by 2 7mm screws. Pulling that off (a 30 second job) gives you access to both sides of the hole. Working from both sides (and adding a little tape) you can get a MUCH more secure fit then you can just trying to snap everything into place from the front . With the bezel off, you also don't need the removal tool. Just squeeze the tabs.
I haven't used or seen the hanger trick in at least 15 years! Keep up the informative videos man. I miss how easy it used to be to change out a head unit.
The coat hangers should go into the holes exactly 1.25 inches deep from the faceplate (on a 2003 ranger). I put a mark on the coat hanger wire to gauge the depth. It's a little tricky for sure with a CD player because there is nothing to hold onto to pull the radio out. I measured the 1.25 depth after getting the radio out, finally.
That’s crazy, my ranger has the exact same radio and mic setup. I got a kenwood double din touch screen to replace it with apple CarPlay just gotta figure out trimming the inside to fit a full double din
Out of curiosity the old radio had those holes for the hanger to go it what if you wanted to change the radio out again in the future I don’t see those holes for hanger to fit
Having a lot of trouble because my truck harness has different colors then the harness for my new stereo so it’s no as simple as matching the colors because there all different
What do I do if my ranger does have the amplifier? I have a 2010 ranger xlt, and plan on doing exactly what u did but idk if I have a factory amplifier or not

I’m kind of a noob when it comes to stereo wiring but I am quite handy. Installing a new radio in my 09 ranger. Question: how come at first u had 2 harnesses connecting into your stock radio. But then someone turned into 1 ? 2:91 - I see 2, then 3:18 I see 1?
Do I have to solder those wires? I don't have a soldering tool but could I just splice the wires, throw on some wire caps, and just wrap it all up in electrical tape?
Please don't use home electrical wire caps, if you don't have a soldering iron, use butt connectors or crimp caps which can be picked up at any auto parts store.
Vibration and excessive heat case those wire caps to loosen or fall off, creating shorts and potential fires in the vehicle. Crimp caps are only a few bucks. Do it right.@@madschrono9891
How difficult would it be to install a 2007 Lincoln MKZ navigation radio into a 2005 Ranger pickup , the Ranger has a double din in it , any help would be greatly appreciated.
you would have to cut the factory harness, i wouldn't when radios with navigation can be had for 200$. best buy even offers free install most of the time if you dont want to deal with it
My factory stereo in my 98 Ranger was just AM?FM with no cassette or cd. In the back it had the antenna plug, 1 wire harness plug and two wires hard wired into the back of the radio. The installation went fine and the new radio works like it should but now when the truck is keyed in accessory or run the dash lights and parking lights are constantly on. Is there something I need to do with the two wires that were hard wired to the factory radio to get my parking lights and dash lights back to normal?
@@lawnmowerman4040 Yes, I did but I can't seem to remember what it was...seems like there was an orange wire I had to splice in to the harness as well that had to do with the ignition switch. I'll try to remember what it was I did.
I’m trying to put a radio just like this in my 09 ranger but I can’t figure out the dash kit. Won’t fit. I bought the correct one. Says for ford ranger 99 to 11
hi I recently purchased a 2007 ford ranger and wanted to upgrade the stereo unit I purchased a Kenwood kmm-bt332u ordered but there's one cable color orange that doesn't come with the stereo connector is name as a illumination/dash light in the metra kit do you have any idea? or I need to buy a different unit?
It's just a illumination / dimmer wire which will dim the radio when the headlights are on. Should work fine with your Kenwood. If your radio doesn't have that wire, just cap it off, it wont be used.
Often it's wired for a factory AUX input, steering wheel volume controls, factory amplifier, or other misc connections the radio needs from the vehicle (that the new radio doesn't require).
@@PeytonnotyeP It should work as I have a 1998 ranger and my radio has the holes for removing the unit. I just went ahead and bought the ones from a store though for 4 bucks as I don't have any wire coat hangers, lol.
