Great video. One of the most relaxing places to be when it works. One of the most expensive cars to own when it doesn’t. I know, I have a Turbo R. I love it. Its elegance continues to age well.
Lovely example - but unfortunately it looks like it's been stored in less than ideal conditions at some point as the wood has some ripples and de-lamination. Something to note for anyone thinking about buying one of these - you need a properly dry garage, preferably with some background heating because you're basically storing something comparable to antique furniture, in terms of the interior.
There used to be a Continental R on the street where I lived in London, the version with air vents behind the front wheel arches, a shorter wheelbase, and extra-wide stance. It had such presence that it took my breath and I lusted for it daily. The model is now firmly established in my (imaginary) collection.
I have a Bentley Brooklands from 1994, looks very similar but not long wheelbase and no turbo. It is a beautifully made car but it is a money pit. Still love the thing.
My favourite Bentley, the Turbo RT '93 onwards. Sure I won't say no to an RT Mulliner, but I would be perfectly happy with a "standard" RT too. This and the Brooklands (Arnage based) are my dream 2-car Bentley garage.
I've driven all the "new" Bentleys, and by far my favorite was the V8 Flying spur. It wafted to perfection. The most comfortable was the Bentayga. I wasn't as enamored by the Mulsanne as I thought I would be. I'd still take an older style Turbo R or Eight over a newer one. A sledgehammer wielded by velvet gloves.
It is so much like a modern '27 to '30 style, classic luxury "truck", absolutely LOVE these last of the Turbo R's. Looking at one on Autotrader right now 6/May/2024, for 16,000 Pounds. I looked up a brand new modern Mercedes C class, and it's puny 1.5 litre hybrid I thought was a joke at first ! Its cost was 46,500 pounds + ! I'd rather buy that Bentley and use the 30,500 pound difference to keep it on the road !!!
I keep on repeating that test drive and I'm now thirsty for that Bentley I'm coming like I said to get it I've developed a thing for that particular Bentley 😊😊😊
WHY was it a shame, being owned by the company, who built „the best car in the world“, Rolls-Royce? Opposite: it’s a shame, being owned by Volkswagen now with its more than questionable quality, like Oil in the Turbo hoses of the Volkswagen W12: cost 38‘000.- Swiss Francs to fix!!! My 1995 Continental R costs me around 1‘500 CHF a year to remain in always perfect condition! THIS was Rolls-Royce Quality! Otherwise VERY nice film! Thank you indeed! (You find me and the Conti R here in RU-vid too! 😇)
Amazing cars, but you can enjoy 90% of the experience for a fraction of the value of the RT Mulliner by buying either a very good Mulsanne S or a cheap Turbo R. They are all magnificent things to waft about in, and even the non-Turbo cars can keep up with modern traffic with all that low down torque.
I own a 1989 Turbo R, which a pleasure to drive. However, don't consider purchasing one of these cars unless you're prepared to spend enough money to keep it in good running condition.
I would say the colour is called Stellite ( a very rare colour only available on late 90’s Bentley) I had a 2000 Continental R Mulliner in the same colour ( Bentley Motor Show Car)
Hilarious how every English bloke in their 50s immediately goes out and buys coloured jeans, red green yellow blue 😂 🙏 gotta be better then the 70s grandads with the shorts socks and JESUS sandals 😂
more questions than answers after this review.like:what does RT stand for,Olympian?waht is that?why the reworked rear screen? if personalised plates are so important, what does SI6ILES even mean? Or maybe your waiting to find those things out in the comment section too?
The plate stands for Simon Giles, the notorious fraudster who purchased the car from me and has recently been arrested by Kent Police. Also disqualified by our government from running any company for 9 years. He has been renting the South WIng at Lullingstone Castle under multiple fake identities and has just been evicted from there by the High Court. Renting the castle wing behind a Seychelles based money laundering company SLF Associates Inc that has had its accounts frozen by the Supreme Court of the Seychelles before the company was struck off in 2018. Have a Google. Mr. Giles has been featured recently in The Financial Times and the Daily Mail
If you need an old car to enhance your feelings of self worth, perhaps you should really be shopping for a psychiatric evaluation. That old V8 design + turbos = blown head gaskets. Great British "engineering". Handsome though.
How about the Turbo S? There is one for sale here in Los angeles. Seems to be quite the rare automobile. Older British cars just have a certain charisma and charm that few new cars possess.
Someone somewhere has a Continental S with velvet, rather than hide, upholstery. The only one I believe, it belonged to a British politician - now deceased. It is the car that I desire.
