I had this exact same car. I was 26 in 1998 and I had just graduated college and treated myself to the best car I’ve ever owned. I ordered it and had to wait 6 months to getting, because GM was on strike and it sat on a trailer for 3 months. I ran the dog shit out of it. I never lost a single race and I even raced Trans Am Firebirds, everyone says they’re basically the same car, maybe I was just a better driver. Mustangs were never a problem. I would just tell them to take off whenever they want, I’ll catch up. I outran many State Boys. I had a guy at work say “nobody can outrun the law” and I looked at him and said “you can’t”? He said “ well, maybe in your car, but that’s it”. The best race I ever had was against this kid who had a 1994 Camarillo built to max! It was always close and he’d get me out of the whole, but I would eventually overcome him. We raced one night on my way out of town and with the same results. He turned and I honked and waved and I did the same. I read in the paper the next morning that he had wrapped his Camaro around a tree on his way home killing his passenger. I never felt the same about racing again and rarely did. I sold it after putting 150,000 miles on it, but I drove it everywhere and people loved it everywhere I went. I’m going to get me another one soon. I won’t be street racing though, but I might go a little faster than normal.
This car was a monster! Top muscle car of the 90s for sure. I remember dusting a twin turbo on the way to the beach. I was all stock! I let of the accelerator at 215 when I considered my life and the front end suspension. Swap out the front end for corvette and you got a smoother ride at 180 plus. Damn I miss this car!
Never been a fan of GM in general as I've purchased mostly Toyota & Lexus vehicles so far mainly for reliability but have always loved these Camaro's. These cars were my absolute fav twenty years ago when I started driving, the same time when this gen was just discontinued. I still prefer this gen over the current Camaro.
I bought of these when was 19 in 2002. Just thought it looked cool. Knew nothing about cars. Didn't hit the gas when I test drove it. Had no idea what was under the hood. Man, when I first got on it I was going about 20 mph right in the power band...WOOO! My young mind was blown! I My Dad thought I exaggerating(I had no reference point). He took it for a test drive, got back, he was in disbelief "that's a fast car son". Then my friend who was older drove(like all out hooning) it. He had owned a C5. He said It was just like driving his Vette. He couldn't believe it either. Man I beat that car to shit 🤣. Not only was it fast, the brakes were unbelievable. I would take my friends and family down this particular road i knew very well, smash the gas and get very, very close to the stop sign and just smash the brakes and watch them brace themselves and try and hit an imaginary brake pedal on the passengers side 😄. Such a blast to drive!
I just restored mine. I have a custom Brandy Apple red with a gold / silver metallic flake mix. Amazing custom color. I just ordered from a junk yard an SS spoiler to it which of course I will match color and mount it. I have it garaged until spring and will do the same video walk-a-round!!
My true love for the 4th Gen ends at 97 with the quad headlights, but now and then one really trips the trigger. This is a great looking car, the rims do it for it. So the Speedos broke, so what, it's a fix. What I love are all those of you criticizing cars like this while probably driving a Nissan Sentra that's two payments delinquent.
I had one, mine was red…best Camaro imo…only thing was the steering wheel felt so bulky and awkward and seemed to handle like the entire weight of the car was solely felt in the steering wheel…other than that loved it! Would spin out though on slick roads 😂
@@gbbnnrewilli3599 yeah😂it was a 02 SS☝️I got rid off it tho it had 186k. It drove good but it had problems 🙈. I basically bought it to flip it☝️ that's what I did. One of my favorite cars☝️ eventually I'll buy another one with low mileage tho
@@gbbnnrewilli3599 that was my only car at the time and I don't have time or money for that😂high mileage resale value sucks👎I rather buy low mileage and then sell later and get your moneys worth☝️
Here in Atlanta it is soooo hard to find a 6 speed ls1 z28, and if you do they are going for 10k minimum. Where is everyone finding 5k ls1 6speeds cause I seriously want to know? Lol
The Speedo was the LAST thing I recognized about this car. The weird part about this is I'm looking at this video about 3 years after the first time I saw it; back then I set out to buy one, 96 Z28...didn't know the difference until now while I just wrecked it (not my fault), this same car 98 Z is for sale near me. I think it's met to be!
I'm considering buying one of these on the used market can anyone tell me how reliable these are? Ill be looking for a used one in good condition with around 100k on odometer
Depends on if the previous owner took care of it. These cars are made to take a beating but you'll wanna check the oil and stuff like that. I've owned 3 and all 3 were running strong with almost 200k miles before I sold them.
