The first time you drive one of this vtecs to the limit you have the feeling that the engine is gonna blow in a million pieces. Then you get used to it, understanding that you can trash it and it will not let u down. Nothing stimulates me more than a 9k vtec monter screaming at full throttle.
Brings me back to the early days when F&F hit theaters and Honda Civics, whether hatch or not, became a very popular ride to mod. Haven’t thought about those days in a bit.
dude these cars were crazy popular to tune long before F&F. An EF9 (ED6) civic and was the first Japanese car I saw as a "tuner" car. and that was 88-91
@@P4SDetails I'm not sure I agree. I'm saying F&F literally put it in there first movie specifically because they were already THE car to tune. Honda tuning magazine was already a big big magazine in the 90's No diss at all but to me to me they would have been big regardless if that movie was out or not. Maybe I'm wromg though. But I respect your opinion.
There’s nothing better about the car scene than its diversity! Not only the cars, but also their owners and admirers. This is why we do this. Enjoy! *Edit:* saw a lot of questions about the engine, it’s a B18C4 with: Tial wastegate Ramhorn exhaust manifold Turbo GT30 Aliexpress Skunk 2 PRO Intake 2.5inch intercooler pipe Mishimoto intercooler 1000cc injectors Rods & Pistons Cilinder Support System Upgrade valve springs Sneaky tuning High boost 475HP / 500Nm Low boost 360HP BC Racing coilovers 3inch downpipe + exhaust Toyo Proxes R888 R Brembo brakes with upgrade pads
B18 is truely bulletproof. This video brought back 20 years of memories 🥲We used to "compare" these B18 or K20 Civic VTI's, Astra GSI's, E39 M3's and such. We were lucky to have seen the launches of these amazing 90's cars. This VTI is much more exciting than the Type-R's of today.
@@supraxv12 old high mileage engine. Apparently it didn't enjoy revving anymore and gave up as I accelerated in 3rd gear. Interesting thing was that there was no real signs of it being at the end of it's lifespan. No knock no nothing. Just blew up at 5K rpm. And I did take care of it, it was a D-series engine so basically bulletproof anyway.
@@shaggings Damn man, that's kinda terrifying to be honest. Currently owning an EK with the D16Y5 motor that has been going 347K kms and i often abuse it 😅
@@supraxv12 Yeah, I don't exactly know what happened, my engine crossed 300 000km just before it gave up, and i've owned it since it had 230 000km, and I serviced it at 10 000km intervals, the thing tho was so rotten in the rear that if you pulled the rear bumber off you would have nothing left to put it back on to. Finnish winter kills cars that don't have zinc coated steel or aluminium body. I currently own a 94 Mazda 626 2.0. A nice car but I am worried about rust even with that car, I'd rather not let it go to the scrap too soon as there aren't that many around anymore. I've only seen 3 others still on the road.
That ek hatch is all business and a great build. But can we also take a minute to show some respect for the guy driving. Those shifts & downshifts were on point
End of the day it’s still a fwd car, fwd cars are not that good for handling, so it needs a skilled driver to handle the car much better especially at higher speeds and on mountain roads.
I was surprised to see this car (I own the same chassis) here! I love how you guys do everything, from crazy german performance cars to some of the more humble tuned stuff!
The old skool days before TC, DSC, ESP, VSA, blind spot monitor, lane change assist and 360 cameras. Why the hell do we need all these? Just gimme VTEC.
5th gear about 255km/h top speed. Now imagine having a 6 and doing like 280 in fking 90s Civic :) Fking love mine with a little D14 . Looking for a b18 swap very soon.
@@davidbernardino7657 I believe the k20a box in the 4th gen Integra, gearbox ratios theroritically would allow speeds of up to 275kph. The k20a2 has a redline of 8100 so if you rased that to like 9000+rpm with cams and added boost. I reckon you could definatly get over 300 ez. I don't know enough about other honda's, but im sure its not the only one with a box like that.
@@manuelxx074 I wish I could've experienced owning a car which revved that high. Highest revving NA car I've owned was a Toyota GT86, and while it certainly wasn't the most powerful, I definitely loved it. Highest revving car I've ever driven was a ferrari 430 spider, and that was a life-changing experience
Love how it handles from the head cam ! Haven't seen a honda hatchback on the streets in ... years. They used to be so popular hear. Great little cars.
@@roadrocket7770 100%agreed the older engines like the F20B F20C H22 H23 B16 B18 and the older generation K20 and K24 were true high reving Vtec motors and with a turbo strapped to them they were just insane the new gen K20C is only K20 by name it's nothing what Honda engines used to be
Lol this reminds me of my brothers all motor 550whp civic he built. I have some clips of him flooring it for fun in our driveway (it’s huge) and he’s just straight spinning lol, but obviously that was for fun. He’s built so many civics lol I forgot what page, but he’s been sponsored of a few civic pages for his builds with Civic SI’s. My favorite was his 800hp civic that had slicks on all fours and that was the first time.. I saw a civic with a hood exhaust lol the clips of him just cruising you see the flames shooting it’s sweet! He loved building cars then flipping them since he gets a lot of free parts from race companies. Now he’s got his own shop with a couple built Evo’s and his bike. I LOVE seeing Civics that aren’t riced lol especially growing up with a brother where his rule is nothing under 600hp is acceptable to him since he was 24 as thats when he really started flipping these. Js idk how he got sponsored by so many companies, but I know a large part is him going to tuner meets back in the day it was SO SWEET here in Michigan man… due to us having the first paved road you best believe it was lit af after 11pm. Too many mustang/scat pack etc drivers crashed over the years and killed the race scene “kinda”. Anyways If you know how to work on cars like my brother just know you can make some SERIOUS MONEY even if you did trades too my brother made some good money that he would re invest back into more 600hp+ builds it was really cool growing up to watch I’m 22 hes 33 now lol. Especially when he’s take me for rides and or pick me up from school lol it was awesome! Really is the reason I got into cars! Love these civics!
I always wanted to get one and get it to..even 200 hp, that s still good. But the idea of having such outdated safety on it gives me the chills so I never did
Another awesome video. Clean build, sick interior! Autotopnl! Where is the voice?the talking? 😎 We enjoy the narrorating! The videos are lacking "without you". Best regards
