I had no idea these half tons could be equipped with a diesel until my neighbor from 20 years ago had one, and i was so confused when he would drive off and it clearly was a diesel and a half ton chevy, i didkt know what to think lol
This was my first diesel. i bought it when i was 18 years old and im almost 24 now and i still have it. has been super reliable. No major issues. bought with 200k miles has 280k now. Still drive it almost every day.
@@Erick-tg4vn They are super reliable with less failure points in the 88-94's than the 95+. Just don't expect to tow the world with them they aren't as powerful as a duramax, cummins or psd. Treat it like an idi I'd say.
Hi, is it OK to feature your clip in a my RU-vid channel for educational purposes (so-called temporary copyright.)? Your name will be listed in my compilation on video. Thanks)
Devin Shaw, I used to have a 95 7.3 that had a stock exhaust, so after I ripped the exhaust from the cat back it was much better I could hear the turbo noises we all love & threw a straight pipe on it w a side dump I front of the wheel & it was a fun truck to drive. It had a bad injector, so when I gave her the floor @ 45 she would blow black smoke at stock tune. I later sold the truck & got a 93 idi w a 5 spd. The rear exhaust hanger it starting to go out, so when it does it’s getting a straight pipe before the muffler, the muffler starts a few inches after the cab under the bed, gonna take a little of the turn from beheind the muffler & make it dump out the side I front for he rear wheel, it’s quiet rn, but I’d like to hear the deep sounds of a non-turboed diesel, I can hear em when the windows are down in 4th-5th, but not that much.
Yes i love the truck! I bought it wirh 203k a couple years ago. And now has 262k and it has been flawless. Other than general maint. Nowhere near the power of my 02 lb7 duramax. But i drive her everyday. Always starts even when my duramax gells up lol.
Yeah no you'll never get a million miles out of it but a 12v will and a 24v and a 7.3 6.5 are the absolute worst diesel engines ever made sounds terrible is gutless as hell and don't even run half the time all the 6.5 is is a gas motor converted to diesel
6.5s do not have a bunch of power. But mine hss never hand any mayjor issues... and a 6.5 is NOT a gas engine converted to a diesel.... that is not true at alll.... the 5.7 diesel was a gas engine converted to a diesel.
But 6.5 is one of the absolute worst diesel engine gutless and nothing but problems GM is ashamed of that motor because they were stupid and stuck to that motor while Cummins and power stroke were producing way better numbers hp and torque with not really any problems 6.5 has more problems than 9th grade algebra
Hey man, idk if you have a lift on there, but if you do, I have a k1500 with a 6.5 as well but idk weather to get a regular k1500 lift kit, or a 2500 lift kit, it’s a 6 lug, could u help me out lol?
i have 1 inch blocks in the rear. and my t bars cranked up a bit. Id say get the lift for the 1500. As the lift kits for 2500 say 8 LUG ONLY. Im not positive. but id say go for the 1500.
@@mudder517 in the Marine Corps our m1152's had the 6.5 and i loved the sound of these engines they just always overheated. Im now needing a reliable daily, do you think i should find me a stock 6.5L? I've considered finding an IDI either the 6.9 or 7.3 idi but this is the 5th video consecutively that has said their engines and transmissions are doing great. Love your exhaust
@@grumpyraytv7778 i have loved mine. But not great for towing. I dont think ill ever sell it. My buddy had a 2000 7.3 with 375k miles when he sold it running strong. His could tow more than mine could. Never had an over heating issue. But i use my duramax's for towing heavy.
@@mudder517 thank you very much brother, ill just be using to pick up and refurbish furniture. Im a diesel tech i just wanted to see honest reviews not brand loyalties.
What trans do they run with the 6.5 1500. I’m thinking of a fun project taking a 5.3 out and putting one of these ol girls in. They are cheap and weigh less than a Cummins.
@@fordman2698 its not the auto transmission thats the problem my grandpa has a 6.0 gas with the 4l80e and my stepbrother has a 1 ton 6.0 gasser with a 4l80e and hes towed 15K pounds with it just fine, its the engine theyre absolute turds probably could tow better with a pedal bike
@@chrishansen7004 Would make sense. My grandpa's is the 350, which I've heard a lot of people say is gutless. And my coworker who is a die-hard gm fan was telling the 6.0 is a turd. If you want gas, the 454 or Vortec 8100 are the way to go.
Just a head's up this guy reuploaded your video on their channel, and I don't think they gave credit (and apparently someone reuploaded it to tiktok as well): ru-vid.comKA4li5E5TLs
