I’m gonna keep this short. I had a GS400 and I took it up to 420,000 miles. What killed it? Frame rust. Michigan car. Greatest car I’ve ever had. I still miss it.
im actaully using filler on my gs 300. it not badly rusted but there are some developing holes im gonna patch up so it wont rot away. Trying to make my gs 300 see 600k miles. only at 220k miles right now, thats like 60k for this kind of car.
99 GS400 owner here. Here here, greatest ever no doubt. Mine is highly modded and gets looks everywhere. Still my favorite car to drive hands down. Fantastic video! Love your monotone delivery and dry wit! Had no idea about valet window function, using all the time now. Thanks much
@@wacobrian9085 Tein coilovers, 20" rims 35 series tires. Lots of sway bar and brake upgrades. Nothing to the engine or exhaust yet, other than a K & N intake
I couldn't agree with you more, this is the best car ever made. I currently have several BMWs and Mercedes yet my 1998 GS400 has been far more reliable. The original engine lasted 407,000 miles before it finally quit. I replaced it with a used engine from a GS in San Diego with rear end damage. It currently has 498,000 and still going. I feel Lexus really put their best foot forward in 1998 in their ambitions to penetrate the US market and it definitely shows.
@@Maybe1Someday yup. Probably in the gray market Sir...........since Lexus just only opened officially here in Manila in late 2008 (the 10th year of this model),
Great video. I've had several Lexus from this era. Greatest cars made. I just got a 1998 GS300. Same color as yours, Antique Bronze Mica, 74k miles, folder full of Lexus service history from new even cleaning and detailing, 1 Florida owner and always garage kept. It'll last me a long time.
Hey, I drive a 98 300 and am VERY familiar with those roads. Fun drive to enjoy these incredible machines. She perfect remedy for fighting quarantine boredom! Did a great job showcasing the car, seeing all that was put into it for 1998 shows Toyota/Lexus truly wanted to craft a gem
I own a 01' Gs300. Car is fantastic! All the electronics still work (except back door actuator) AC is ice cold, CD and stereo sound better than new car systems. It sounds good. 189k and it rides comfy, quietly and good power. Love it. I paid 1700$, prev owner was cash strapped and i have a honey now.
Just picked up a '98 garage kept GS4 with only 118k original miles. Old lady took it from her ex husband 18 years ago and barely ever drove it since. Only paid $5300 for it too! I had a '00 with 315k miles 3 years ago that I sold to a friend and he totaled it only 1 month later.. Told myself I'd always be on the prowl for a low mileage one until the end of eternity, and I could not be happier with my decision.
These cars are amazing. I always call Lexuses the smart man's luxury car. You get nice interior, amazing features, some-what good mileage AND reliability in one car. These things are super cheap too and they still look good. The Lexuses from the 2000's look like they were made this year. Absolutely amazing car
Man, thanx for such a great, clear and concise video. I'm planning to buy GS-430 and your video just reinforced my desire to get one. These cars in such incredibly clean conditions I myself call "candies" -- they are so attractive!! I don't want any other shape or later years in these babies -- just that readily recognizable gen-2 look! The shape and the sheer presence of the front and back center lights - they alone make it worth getting these cars... :)) Once again, thanx for an awesome vid.... ;-)
I just bought a GS400 with 99711 original miles on it. 1 owner, and paid $5800. car was in almost new condition. Immaculate inside. It just felt "Rich" to drive day 1. So far, a truly great car. And CD player and multi-disk carousel included.
My dad bought the Spectra Blue Mica GS 400 in 1998. It's been my dream car since high school. He got the SC430 in '01, but the GS was still my favorite. I just bought one from an auction across the country for about $1100. It had 178k miles on it and I drove it 2500 miles back home straight out of the auction yard. I'm getting work done on it during the quarantine to make her my daily driver. I have to get my hands on that promotional book..."Something wicked this way comes" How many miles on yours at purchase and now?
"When I ride in this car its like sitting in a recliner... I don't like being tied down to the seat..." lmao this is priceless, I'm definitely buying one now!
I love that car. I have the 2000 ls400. Sometimes I wish I had the GS because it's a little sportier but I have modified my exhaust as well and my 4.0 sounds just like yours.. beautiful.. You mentioned your alternator. I think I could use a more powerful one. When the car is warmed up and in drive at it traffic light... The voltage tends to get a little on the low side for my taste
I absolutely love my is300, won’t settle for anything less than a Toyota’s/Lexus quality. I had a 2001 E46 that gave me 17,000 miles before I paid more to repair it than I did for the car itself. Lexus IS perfection
As a reply to the description: I have both a 2000 GS400 Platinum (upgraded leather, bird's eye maple wood, black chrome trim, and unique wheels) and a 2000 S430. Both are a joy to work on. Most parts are less expensive on the W220 now. The pre-2003 is actually less finicky than the facelift version (as long as Airmatic and it's just as reliable as the GS400). GS400 definitely isn't as comfortable for tall people but it's not a big deal. Also, the best way to use sound through phones is with a Bluetooth FM transmitter. It's higher quality and wireless.
My triple black 98 GS 400 is far from stock but tastefully modded, I get compliments constantly , people think it like a 2014 lol ... I will never get rid of it, 23 years old , timeless with a heavy cult following.
I have a 99 exact same colors. Just bought it. 200k miles, Spent $3000 and it's legitimately the smoothest driving car I've ever owned. Worth every penny. Super clean. Already ordered the 3 interior pieces that were a little worn. The Shifter cover slide, armrest and steering wheel - all for about $100... (Got lucky with the steering wheel) Cleared the fog on the headlights, put in LEDs. Touchscreen radio in the mail. I gotta redo the wheels, until I can buy good wheels and tires.I'm not going to be able to stop myself from stancing it out. BC coilovers in the shopping cart. Chrome 19x8.5 +35s on the radar. Maybe some G37 wheels. Depends on how much I wanna stimulate the economy. Fine the way it is until then though. 2JZ-GE. Respectable 0-60 but it's like a spaceship from 60-100. There's a few out there still. Get em while you still can. No more affordable 2J turbos out there. Best car I've ever owned. I'll own more cars, but I'll be keeping this one.
I was trying to get the GS but eneded up with an ES. I'm still happy. You get nearly all the same features that make you feel so gangster lol. I never knew I could roll the windows down from outside.
I have a 2001 gs 300 and I’m in love. I just got it so I don’t put miles in my 2020 SI but let me tell you I underestimated this car. I am so in love. This car rides like a dream it has power and it rides like a dream. I don’t feel any bumps and the transmission is so beautiful. So many hidden features also. Best car ever made I agree 🥰
Had a 99. Loved all it's hidden tricks and features. Although by no means this is one of the greatest ever made but yes, one of the best. Most of the Lexus's of this era and 2000s were. Also had gen 1 LS and currently driving the 08 GS.
I have a 1999 GS400 with gold package with only 150000 on it’s the best car ever had. Had to replace the radio due to the screen went out so decided to install a Alpine with CarPlay and replace the rear subwoofer and install nice amp. I’ve had new vehicles and nothing beats this car. Lexus did an awesome job.
Nice car sexy af Ive had 2 ...bro put your seatbelt on you can be comfortable at home. Im sure you like being standing 6'1 so dont be foolish ANYONE can be the cause of a bad accident( knock on that real wood ). Lexus didnt design that car to keep you alive without the seatbelt in mind. Anyway bro love the car and it sounds amazing.✌🏾
You are the pied Piper of Lexus absolutely best video ever Ever iPhone Alexis you make me wanna buy a 400 I have a 430 VIP Make more videos I love your monotone
Beauty GS400 Bro. Great review.👏Always wanted one but I ended up with a 2000 LS400 cause there were no good ones for sale near me at the time. Mine has a resonator delete so it has a similar rumble to yours.👍 I feel the way you love your GS, cause I feel the same way bout my LS. Lexus was pumping out true gems in the 90s and early 00s. The proof is in the pudding and how many are still cruisin the streets. My Mother drives a 1993 LS400 that’s in better condition than mine. It’s turning 30 and still going strong.🔥 Peace to all the Lexus lovers worldwide🌎. 1UZ for life Y’all.☝️
I love that the windows come down on their own, I hate that dreaded heat wave when you open the door, this car was upwards of a decade ahead of its time
It really is the epitome of what a good car is and what I believe to be the greatest car ever made. I know everyone has an opinion but Ive been around so many cars. Thanks for watching!
In 2021, I got a Black 1998 Lexus GS430 {V8 ENGINE}. It was kept in storage, with only 107,000 miles on it. Custom leather upholstery, tan piped with black on the edges, with the lexus emblem on every headrest. Can you tell I ABSOLUTELY LLLLLLLLLOVE IT....?!!!!!!!!
My channel is currently dedicated to this car and modding it. It’s a tank! Looks like we’re in the same state also. Good job. I’d like to clear up a couple things. 1) Technically it has e-shift, not paddle shifters (but I know what you meant). 2) it does not come with true dual exhaust unless someone modded yours. From the factory it is 2 cats into Y center muffler to 2 resonators to 2 mufflers.
Forward Momentum Idk if you have a different car man but 100% the car (GS400) has a dual exhaust (with X pipe) from the factory. One of the only cars ever to do so making it such a incredible car from factory. Glad I could clear this up for you. The car in the video (mine) had a muffler delete with pipes and truck tips in its place.
Maybe Someday nope. Absolutely does NOT have true dual from the factory (‘98 GS400). I’ll put $100 on it. I have photos and even a video of the underside of my car. Also, I have photos from the FSM. To be clear, the exhaust manifolds merge to a Y, then Y out again to dual.
@@ForwardMomentum The GS300 has a Y pipe due to it being lame. The GS400 has dual, I have photos of the stock exhaust. I will be wanting my $100 you have just promised.
Maybe Someday watch my exhaust video. You can skip to the under car part (at 46 seconds). That is a stock system in terms of routing. See the two Y’s? Ok good. Send me my $100.

There is 160k on odometer, but this thing is mint... she wants 3500 for it.. but that seems high to me. What do you guys think? She wouldnt take 3 grand
my 1999 LS was passed down from the grandparents for my first car so of course i would argue _it_ is the greatest car ever, but at heart i've always been more of a GS person so i've always been allured to some of the sportier elements... this VVT-i version of the 1UZ with a true manual shift mode is a VERY appealing prospect haha
I own a Crystal white 2000 Lexus GS400 with only 42,000 miles and was driven by a 87 year old man next to a beach and golf courses. It has the big spokes, OEM rear spoiler, Nakamichi sound system. The car is impeccably pristine in terms of everything paint, body, interior, leather, engine bay, trunk, door jams, wheel wells and mostly importantly NC rust free underbody! It drives like a brand new car and everything functions the way it should. It’s a unicorn, time capsule, needle in the haystack, Diamond in the rough, holy grail type of car. When you search online you can’t even find one unless maybe it has 200,000+ miles.
@@Maybe1Someday it is amazing for the year. I was shocked to hear how nice it sounds compared to a stock GS sound system. Usually the Mark Levinsons are all blown by now. With just a couple notches the Nakamichi is very loud and clear I can tell the old people rarely used it and definitely didn’t blast the system.
One day I will own one! My ULTIMATE dream car. I kinda want the 430 but the 400 is a beast too! I currently have a beautiful ES330 with 250,000 miles and love it. Never gonna sell it ever. This is my favorite gen of GS followed closely by the 3rd gen!
We meet again. 400 is a better motor imo, there’s a reason Mercedes is making the 4.0 v8 a twin turbo AMG. You cant go wrong with getting a 400 or 430 though
@@Maybe1SomedayI have owned two now haha. Both GS430s. First a 2002, which I sold, and I just purchased a 2005 GS430, final model year , one of 422 in 05. Both of mine have been black on black. Which isn’t even my favorite color combo, but just happened to have all the options. ML audio, nav, wing, chrome wheels, heated seats etc. I like your antique bronze mica better than mine, but prefer the 430 interior with the extra wood grain bits
I had a 2001 GS430 that I sold last year because I really needed a truck. I agree, it's the perfect car and I tell everyone that. I'm trying to get a GS400 or GS430 now that in good shape, and not molested by modders.
Was desperately looking for a replacement to my Yaris that was written off until I got a '98 GS300 same color with just +60,000kms with all the luxurious appurtenances provided by seller here in Oz for ~11,800 USD - All current bantams here are selling so ridiculously pricey even with more than 100k's! Was at first skeptical and got turned off when I saw the MY1998 description but couldn't help myself move away from the shape, elegance, and as if time had stopped - until I finally got myself to see it person. - Probably, one of the best decisions I made looking for a car. I have always been content with just having any other car as long as it was "safe, reliable efficient" - as these are just tools to me to bring me from a to b, nothing more - but this GS300 got me hooked! Obviously more time spent in the garage than on the road, and venerated as a symbol of financial success by seller's dad but very sadly had to let it go as he said - he was way pass his prime. Like having smitten by an old, but matured, fine elegant woman. An object of beauty and way ahead of her time. Same as the others - It will last with me for a very long time.
I have an '01 GS430 - and every single you mentioned is so true. I love this gen of Toyota ! Interesting that the HID's are listed on the window sticker as a $500 option for the '98--- I forgot about that ! The (self-leveling) HID's became Standard in 2001+ models. Danngg... I'd HAVE to have the factory HID's if I owned a GS400. LOVE that color too! Last thing...That PHONE! Ha, I didn't know that was an oem accessory in these cars back then... so cool!
My first car was a GS300 1998. 106k miles bought it for 3425 and did an aristo front end swap sold it for 5000. I bought a sportcross after and still own it
I’ve got an 06 gs430, just got it and everything about it is good. Doesn’t look like an 06 and it’s got a nice interior with 250K miles and the engine is still strong.
My dad has this car. It's black and has a spoiler. This car is like a quiet beast. Doesn't have loud engine sound But it's powerful as hell ! It's enough to put a foot on a gas, you're flying. V8 4.0 BEAST
4.0 v8 I feel is the most efficient car. Yeah a 4 cylinder gets good gas, yeah a V12 has torque and power. This car had both though. It’s basically the peak. Thanks for the comment and watching
@@georgekhmaladze08 Was saying 4 cylinders are fuel efficient, and v12s have torque. You’re right, I dont drive a v8 to be efficient. Gas cars are getting phased out. Im gonna enjoy the ride.
Hello I can't wait too experience my first lexus I want a 2001 gs430 tho but this version Is still good the 430 seems sportier I also hear they are the smoothest cars like super smooth
I own a 02' 430, and a 05' 430. I love them and do not want to part with them. With my K&N air filter, I like to pick on non "M" BMW's on the weekends.
I realized your g4 doesn't have heated seats mine has heated seat button fir driver and passenger in the middle. I literally got the same car just that one option is missing from your car
I notice you haven't got heated seats and you didn't mention that you have memory seats. when you put the key in if you press the memory on the door it will adjust the seat to your setting and the external mirrors also the steering wheel. I love mine its a 1999 GS300.
Yup I work at a porche an audi dealer. And all the 2021 2022 modle cars do not do this and do not have the option to do so... I'm a proud 2001 ls430 owner.
