For what it's worth, SD won 98 games that year. This isn't like when the Indians had only 86 wins the previous year when they made the World Series. They took their foot off the gas after clinching the NL West on September 12 (went 4-9 the rest of the reg. season). They could have been a 100-win team ala HOU/ATL. The 1998 San Diego Padres are a criminally underrated pennant winner.
Thank you very much Fab Mundo for uploading this game. It was the best Pades team assembled to this date. Kevin Towers did a masterful job of building this 1998 roster while we saw a great mananger in Bruce Bochy. No one realizes how great the depth was. They had Johnnie Vanderwall, Mark Sweeney and Greg Myers as the best pinch hitters I've seen. They beat the Braves with their 50HR outfielder Greg Vaughn injured & DNP in 3 games of this NLCS and Cammy was injured all season but he just gutted it out. And Tony was in his swang song as he would retire in 3 more years still he hit .321 in 1998. I could go one but those were great memories. RIP to Tony Gwynn, Ken Caminiti and Keven Towers. Because of the success of this 1998 season SD city public voters approved the building of what was to be Petco Park. And it will be rockin again in the 2022 NLCS series
1:33:02 - the late, great Tim McCarver with one of many Nostradamus predictions he made throughout his career. As a side note - that was a heck of a job by Hitchcock, a career .090 hitter, to put the ball in play like that against a HOF pitcher in that situation.
No one told Danny Bautista that Sterling Hitchcock was hitting; no wonder he was playing too deep in LF. Anyway, I was at work listening to the game on the radio. So I heard Jerry Coleman's famous "OH DOCTOR" call.
Thank you so much for this video, i needed footage from this game for a project. i just listened to the Morgan Wallen song about this and i had really good ideas.
Games 2, 3, & 6: In all 3 games, the Padres got offensive production from their starting pitchers (Brown, Hitchcock), and the Braves had key defensive miscues. And in the case of this game (Hitchcock & Bautista), occurring on the same play.
Correct me if im wrong, but I think this is also the Padres last playoff win. Since then, they got swept in the WS, and then they have either missed the postseason or gotten swept in the division series or lose the wild card game in 2007.
@@grsy764 How did my above comment not age well? I wrote that above comment before the Padres 2022 postseason. Or are you referring to the Padres wining game 3 against the Cards in the 2006 NLDS?
When are they going to Make The Altanta Braves Change they Team Names since they made the Cleveland Indians change their name and the Washington Redskins the completely changed the name and look
