I got to turn this off after two frames. I can't stand the crowd clapping. What genius started this.

Traber deserved this one. He was always so close. Glad he won.

Walter Ray Williams Jr is one of my favorite bowlers that I met in person about 2 times. Astonishing great in the PBA. Thanks Buddies Pro Shop!

Roth can’t understand all the cheering during his approach. Imagine such crowds during a downhill putt.

That was a dumb and desperate move by the PBA who could see the writing on the wall and unfortunately failed to recognize and address the root of the issues, along with the various governing bodies. The gold pins is another of the stupid ideas on that list lol.

RIP Mark Roth this would be his last Pro tour in this game Roth was not getting the breaks.That and all that hollering while the bowlers was taking their shot was hard to watch.In the old days you would not have happen.Anyway this don't tarnish Roth legacy he still one of the greatest bowlers of all time.

Well. Great day and a sad day I suppose for Mark. WONDERFUL to see him bowling again after that stroke but I was wanting him to get the traction going by winning the first match and get the momentum to "climb the ladder" and WIN TITLE #35. But, the main thing is that he used that tremendous DETERMINATION to get healthy again. And. It was great to see the genuinely nice and great bowler Marshall Holman encouraging Mark to bowl competitively again.

Along with PBS affiliate WTVP, there were only 4 channels in the Peoria area at the time (WHOI 19 (ABC/UPN secondary), WEEK 25 (NBC), WMBD 31 (CBS) and WYZZ 43 (Fox)).

Someone made a comment about Mark aging too quickly. I think Mark did suffer from health issues that did not give him longevity. Just 10 yrs after this match Mark had his stroke at ~58 and sadly we lost him at age 70. Amazing to hear how many bowlers wanted to be like Mark. A Power ball during the time of plastic balls and lanes that did not have a computerized machine laying down oil in a perfect pattern.

Yep. Roth was a shell of himself at this point.

How did they determine the PBA computer rankings at the time of this tournament? Marshall Holman mentioned that Walter Ray Williams Jr. failed to cash in the first three tournaments of 1998. The Peoria tournament was the fourth stop of 1998. How was Walter Ray ranked number one if he hadn’t cashed in 1998 prior to this tournament?
@canuck_gamer3359
@canuck_gamer3359 4 года назад
Probably assigned points..and if a guy like him didn't win but let's say he finished in the top ten a bunch of times, that was probably worth more than winning once and not cashing in any other tournaments. I'm only guessing but that makes the most sense to me.

We were so spoiled with the ABC telecasts Nelson Burton Jr. and Chris Sheinkel. The telecast eleven now is insufferable and dragged out to no end

I wonder how the pros today would do on a lane with a fifth/tenth of the oil, spread on the lane with a pressurized spray can. :) Preferably trying to knock down pins with a rubber ball. I'd love to see that....and laugh? :)

How come the crowd is silent when the bowlers are waiting for the ball to come back, then they start yelling their dumbass heads off when the guy is trying to bowl? This is beyond stupid.

They were probably told to do that by some PBA schmuck directing the event. They were DESPERATE for anything that could help the tour after ending their contract with ABC.

I'm going to go with Dick Weber. He was pure accuracy and did not have the advantage of the "forgiveness" of today's modern equipment. However, no one could disagree if you believe the tour title record winner is the GOAT.

I absolutely hate Traber's bowling "style". It looks like the kind of thing you'd see a 12 year old trying to imitate a pro.
