This is a second version of a similar Sony 8mm demo tape I've uploaded in the past. Both tapes have Bob and "Sarah" at the beginning, yet I've edited out those two cheesy hosts for this upload and included just the cool tech. I love 90s tech, and in this video you'll see the best in Sony Infolithium batteries, Handicam accessories and a chapter on Mavica Floppy disk cameras and Mavicap (first time I've seen Mavicap!).

The 60 seconds on floppy thing was a huge improvement - the limit on earlier Floppy cameras was 15 seconds. (You could also record 15 seconds at higher resolution) Humorously, those two limits continued with Sony's first solid state media "Memory Stick" cameras, even though Memory Sticks could hold more than floppies. My guess is the guts of the camera, including the RAM buffer, were holdovers from the floppy era, and it took a few years before they finally allowed longer movies. VERY strangely, my second-generation Memory Stick camera could do much higher resolution (640x480!) that made files well over 1.4 MB, but it was still limited to 60 seconds!

9:37 "Insert the disk into your PC…" - shows a Macintosh. (When Sony had their Vaio line already in stores!)

I love/hate the CGI background, with the pictures in the frames changing to match the current product. Also: putting a version of the record/play control on the tripod handle is good. Not enough devices do that nowadays, though of course some of them do.

This Mavica promotional voiceover script reads like it was translated from a Japanese version of the script.

I can imagine someone actually mailing the physical disc after hearing him say "post office". We wanted one of these back in the day but couldn't afford one.

I liked how; when the first presenter was talking about the camera bag, it looked as if it was stapled down and made out of rock; as it did not move an inch when she touched it, other than the pocket opening up. Also, d you think the chromakey comes with the camera as well, lol.

I have both of those chargers at the start of the video and my NPF 950 batteries are still going strong today.

Ah yes, the NP-F550. Battery of choice today for hundreds of random off brand crappy photo ring and small panel lights. Thanks Sony!

In 2018, I found a Mavica cam at my work place, collecting dust. I took a few pics and videos, but no way to post them here. All the photos were under 1 meg, and the video data rate was something like 800K, yes kilobytes, per second.

My Mavica camera still works great and the battery used is the same as my Sony digital 8 handycam
