Dunwoody said at an Aintree preview he was gutted as mistake 3 out cost him the race, believed would have outstayed Strong Promise and outpaced Cool Dawn
Terrible Gold Cup won by an average hunter chaser. Only 2 horses in the field worthy of the race were Strong Promise and See More Business. If Strong Promise goes the outside of Cool Dawn on the run in he wins.
keithwellerlounge74 Why? Strong Promise had every chance on the run in & simply wasn't good enough. The winner won going away in the last half furlong.
@@Formula1Madx You could argue Strong Promise didn't quite stay but horses coming up the stand side almost always finish stronger at Cheltenham. I'm convinced if Williamson had come up that side he'd have won. Career form showed Strong Promise was a classy horse and Cool Dawn wasn't. He wasn't really going away from him anyway, it's the angle, he was cutting back across the track. This was a complete fluke, and I think Cool Dawn was simply given a great ride and performed out of his skin. But not the most satisfactory result for purists who want to see the best horse win the Gold Cup.
