Still one of the most dynamic teams I've witnessed in NFL History. Not a Vikings fan, but still peeved that they didn't get to that Super Bowl that year.
The Vikings WR corps ran patterns that were about 15 to 20 yards deeper than pretty much any other team at the time, and were especially dangerous on artificial turf.
Hoard and palmer were great backups , Cunningham wasn't shabby either , most definitely the best team ever to not even make it to the SB, much less win it ,,, 15-2
Then Brian billick becomes the BLT coach and immediately win a SB. Vikings immediately declined to a wild card level next season, they toss green, and for yrs ,500 or less teams, until 2009
@@lennyjohnson9331 they never prioritized defense. Just offense. Billick had one of the greatest defenses of all time w the Ravens that year, while Denny kept drafting guys like Troy Walters who was absolutely useless for us because he was a Stanford alum and his dad was a coach on the team, instead of drafting a pass rusher or corner which we needed. And there's plenty of stories of him keeping friends as coaches instead of hiring more qualified people. And our defense kept getting worser and worser.
@@s.tavares3257 probably y Brian left Minnesota, the defense was ignored. And BLT had the least pts ever in one season. I was wondering do u remember just b4 halftime during the ATL championship game, of Randall getting blind sided smashed and the ball flew out like 20 yards backwards ATL got it and scored from the fumble I think ,? I remember Cunningham having happy feet the 2nd half so they ran the ball mostly the 2nd half, I'm asking cuz watching the game now it's like a different scenario
@@lennyjohnson9331 I definitely remember them stepping off the gas after being up 20-7. Denny was known for that.. being conservative in playoff games. You were aggressive all year and finished 15-1, now all of a sudden you play conservative??? Decisions like that cost of the game. It’s really unfortunate. Not saying we would’ve beaten the Broncos because they had a great running game, but I definitely think we would’ve been a tougher matchup than the Falcons.
Pretty amazing that the '98 Vikes were putting up these kind of numbers, and yet Randy Moss wasn't even a starter in the offense until Jake Reed went down with a back injury against Green Bay.
