Rams needing a win to clinch home field for the playoffs. There is Asian commentary over the Fox crew towards the end of this game that makes this video really hard to watch.

This was a good example of the St. Louis Rams defense showing it's ability to clamp down on opponents that year. People usually talk about their offensive power in 1999, but they also had a good defense. Also, I find it amazing that this game was originally recorded in Japan, and ended up on RU-vid all of these years later.

Rams had a Top 5 defense that year and returned a franchise record 7 defensive touchdowns (which still stands to this day). They had a high scoring offense AND defense (as well as special teams with Hakim and Horne). They are practically the most explosive team all-time in terms of being able to score at any time from all three phases of the game (offense, defense, special teams). Ironically enough, for as explosive as they were offensively, it was ultimately their DEFENSE that won them their Super Bowl (see Mike Jones SB tackle)

I remember watching this game at about the age of 10. Being pissed that no one could stop the Rams 🤣

Would've gotten GREAT futures odds on these two teams being the next three NFC Champions

I've just forgotten why Kurt was so good, it was mostly because most of the plays he would risk getting hit to complete it. Something that """the legend 12"""" would not do because he is a coward

This was the last year the Giants and Rams would wear these jerseys. Both teams would have new/different jerseys the next year.

Nowadays Bruces block on Hakims TD would've been rule "illegal blindside block" smh

The force out rule was one of the worst rules in NFL History. Thank God it’s gone. It makes the Tuck Rule look good. How do u truly know if the receiver would have come down with 2 feet down?

The 1999 Rams objectively had the weakest schedule in NFL history. Well, since the league went to a 16 game schedule in 1978, anyway. They played the Titans (13-3), Lions (8-8), and Ravens (8-8). Everyone else they played had a losing record. They also lost to the Titans and Lions. They played the worst 7 teams (by record) in the NFL that year, and 3 of them were in their division so they played them twice. Their opponents combined to win 93 games and lose 163. 61 of the 93 wins came against another team the Rams played. In other words, someone had to win, unless it was a tie. The Rams opponents won about 36 percent of their games in 1999, which is easily the lowest winning percentage for a team’s schedule. I’m not saying any of this to give an opinion on the ‘99 Rams. I’m interested in the extreme outliers in team sports. Maybe someone who reads this is like me in that way. If so, they just picked up a good one for the collection of sports weirdness.

Very true. That is why a lot of people think that the 2001 Rams were the far superior group when looking at the span from 99-01. Achieved a better record (14-2) than the 99 team, while also playing a far superior schedule.

The overnight collapse of the Super Bowl runner-up Falcons had a lot to do with that anomaly; Rams and Falcons shared a division at the time and those two games were initially thought of as tougher dates in the Rams schedule. Little did we know that the first game against the suddenly-moribund Falcons would be the official coming-out party for the Greatest Show On Turf, and the rematch went about the same. 49ers suddenly dropping off without Steve Young was another reliably tough matchup that went all Rams.

All of this literally means nothing and was a waste of finger energy. The Rams had one of the best point differentials in NFL history in 1999 (+200). They DESTROYED their opponents and with the weak schedule rightfully so. Also consider the 98 Rams were 4 - 12. It's the greatest turn around season in NFL history from year to year. Regardless of their schedule strength they showed no mercy. You're SUPPOSED to smash the ants when you're paid to.

@@yaahlabanyamyan144 Don't forget that they had in their division the NFC champion Atlanta and San Francisco. also, the stats that should be counting to see how hard a season is should be from the past season, not the current one.
