Here’s how to replace a accelerator cable for a fix of Bucking, hesitant, sticking throttle in mustangs 1999-2004. Forget the zip tie temp fix. This is super easy and a cheap repair you can do that makes the mustang feel like new. Video is for standard shift 4.6L mustangs. OEM Ford part is still available. Part # in video I couldn’t find any videos of this as I’m a researcher before I do kind of person. So this is my first video bare with me. Hope this helps others!

Thank you so much for the tip on how to get the plastic piece in and the throttle cable, I’ve been trying to push it down through the top instead and realized it wasn’t going to work. I watched the video and it took me 20 seconds to do it😭

I have literally been looking for a video that did not have the zip tie “fix”. And for your first video it was easy to follow through and understand good job man.

I know right?.. like I said I did try the zip tie as a diagnosis. And it did correct the problem, but I wanted a safer fix. Researching it seemed like the oem cable was discontinued. And no how to’s..? Thinking how is this possible? Seems like everyone had this problem. Glad people are finding the video. And able to do it themselves! Thanks for the comment 👍🏼

@@yukalade hey so i just replaced the part. Ive got a 3.9 04 mustang so it should b the same part but the new cable makes the gas pedal so much lower than the brake pedal, but it still opens the throttle body all the way when pressed down to the floor. Was wondering if your pedals felt the same way
@yukalade
@yukalade 3 года назад
@@twentyeighthnight1934 yes I just looked before I commented. Correct my gas pedal is closer to the rug “ not as high as the brake pedal”

@@yukalade yeah ive got about a 1 inch or so of a difference but it definitely feels better than before when i want to floor it. Just the height difference that throws me off and might take some getting used to
@yukalade
@yukalade 3 года назад
@@twentyeighthnight1934 right. I was used to it not being correct. It did take a bit to get used to it. But I knew it was fine because it drove correctly again. 👍🏼👍🏼

Thank you!!❤ common enough car but most info regarding these is buried in old or removed threads on really old forums with no pictures or videos. I did the spacer/ziptie method but recently its gotten loose enough to the point of worry..

Thanks for your video. My cable was becoming frayed at the throttle body I just discovered. 2000 Mustang with 41,000 Kms. Looks brand new. Now I can replace the cable myself.

Thanks! Just finished the job. Toughest part is getting to the pedal. Shifting is much smoother when letting the clutch out. Maybe I’ll save on some gas too, who knows!

I have an 04 Mustang v6 base model 3.8L. Nothing Fancy. Will this cable work for my vehicle?
@yukalade
@yukalade 2 года назад
Not sure. Call the local ford dealership for the part. The procedure will prob be close..? I can not confirm though since I have a 8 cylinder
@empty4570
@empty4570 3 года назад
Was your throttle getting stuck like it was on cruise control?
@yukalade
@yukalade 3 года назад
No Not like it was on cruise control. My cruise doesn’t work… The gas pedal had a lot of play in the cable and with the throttle / gas pedal cable stretched you couldn’t drive the car right. Vehicle would hesitate on acceleration and would buck sometimes. The video to zip tie the throttle cable taking up the slack worked but I didn’t trust it. So I replaced the throttle cable and it fixed the problem. A correct inexpensive fix.

My rpm’s still stay high around 1,700-2000rpm even at idle I changed my throttle cable but still same thing. Any idea what it can be?
@yukalade
@yukalade Год назад
Try a restrictor plate on the idle air control valve. Or a new throttle position sensor.
@yukalade
@yukalade Год назад
Or adjust the idle screw if you have one.

Try idle screw or idle air control valve.

I listed the ford part number in video. Which is for a standard manual shift car. I’m not sure on a aftermarket cable.
