@@leef1500 Unfortunately, no. I need to buy a home with a garage first. I live in S. Florida, and leaving it sit in the sun would utterly destroy the wood interior. Once I have a home with a garage, I will buy that Bentley before I buy a living room sofa, or dining room table. I mean, after all, it has leather seats, and fold down food trays. Who needs furniture when you have a Bentley?
Great video. I agree that I'd take an early one with the BMW V8. From what I've read the press gave them a lot of flack for using the BMW engine back when it was new and everyone wanted the dinosaur 6.75 V8 even though it was like 500lbs heavier and this was the better car. I mean the 6.75 is just a modified version of the engine they'd been using since the 60's, it was time to move on even if the power/torque was a bit better. One of these 4.4's in dark green is a bucket list car for sure!
Thank you. I agree with you 100%. They got criticized for using the BMW engine but it was much more efficient and much lighter than the 6.75L. If I were to buy one, it would have to be the 1999 model year. What a great car.
I own a 2000 Arnage with the Rolls 6.75 and is the proper Bentley engine. I do however understand the argument. I have no major issues with my car and I treat it like a bmw Audi VW GM parts bin
Beautiful car man!! That is a lot of car for the money.. I do hate when people say “ oh but the maintenance is so high”.. Yea.. if you take it to the dealer.. I mostly buy rovers, BMW’s, and high end older imports.. I get them dirt cheap cuz people are so scared of the maintenance... They don’t realize it’s just like any other car.. oh but the oil change on a bmw is $100,, yea, if you go to the dealer!! Clueless!! I’ll stick to doing my own maintenance and driving real cars.
100% man. Most people are so uneducated when it comes to car maintenance that it is scary. That's why they get ripped off. This Bentley is just like any other car. Just avoid a trip to the dealer and you will be fine.

BMW was charging me $2000 for a emergency call malfunction light I had on for the SOS call feature, and for an exhaust clamp on my BMW 7-Series. $2000 was outrageous, and they charged me $250 for a diagnosis fee. I took the car down to a local BMW specialist and including labour it was $400 for both jobs. Along with that I was treated much better, with the same quality work. People have no idea what they are talking about when it comes to maintenance and repairs. Always avoid the dealer unless you have warranty. I’ve been looking into these Arnage’s and Bentley Continental Flying Spur W12s of this gen and I can tell the same misconception when it comes to maintenance and whatnot is made harshly on them when in fact it’s not true.. I’ve seen the savings from the Bentley dealer compared to an independent shop and it’s crazy. These cars are gems, sucks for others.. I’ll be getting a much better deal due to this stereotype/lack of knowledge from most!

Informative, and I agree. Lighter, more durable interior, and more room to work under the hood. Thinking these are earlier and thus different than the ones that Hoovie inflicts on the Car Wizard. Have to wonder if the Car Wizard has worked with one of these. The mineral oil thing...
The 1999 models are a different animal. Most people have no idea they are better in every way than the later ones. VW pulled a marketing trick on people by advertising more horse power and torque since people want to brag about numbers. The reality was that VW made the cars worse.

Many years ago a friend bought a new Bentley Cont. drophead coupe. He brought it over so that I could salivate. It was beautiful but the alignment was way off, the tires weren't balanced and there was a rattle on turning that turned out to be loose lug nuts! The suspension wasn't up to the power and weight. No anti-dive geometry. The steering was too light and numb. The interior ergonomics were odd. He kept the car for less than 2 yrs. Much of the time it was in the shop. But, as I said, it was gorgeous...standing still.
I think he got it confused with the engine transmission pairing. The bmw engine is correct but I’m gonna sure the transmission is from gm 4LE80. That is a pairing I would be in favor of. Bmw and Audi are notorious for having shit transmissions. Bmw and Audi being the same company of course.
Thank you for watching and for your comment. I am pretty sure that the 4LE80 came in 2000 when VW was forced to use the 6.75L. The early versions with the BMW V8 had the ZF 5HP30. In 2006 they finally got the ZF 6HP-26.
Funny how an original 100% British Rolls Royce engine which also came in Bentleys, is not a " proper" engine, but a foreign transplant is. I would also bet the complex and complicated overhead cam BMW engine would not have the long-term durability of the British pushrod engine, and it's also probably harder to diagnose and repair.
I never said it wasn't proper. I said it was antiquated. VW would have never used it if it wasn't for their situation with the BMW. By the way, the 6.75L is a 100 times more complicated than the BMW engine.

If I'm not mistaken, I think you said at the 4.4 was a proper engine for the Bentley, in context, seeming to imply that was the engine that belongs in the British Bentley. It may perform and function better, put the word proper, especially to an Englishman, would imply that you're using the native-born homegrown engine.

I used to work on a 70s Rolls-Royce with that engine, of course without turbo and fuel injection , and it was not complicated at all., nor was it hard to work on. Especially by today's standards, it was simple and basically the same is an American V8 I have a friend that had the 4.4, and also an M5. He loves the car, and it shared his many experiences working on that engine, and from what he has told me it is way more complicated and difficult to work on in the old Rolls-Royce push rod V8. And and M5 is naturally aspirated. So is the 100 times more you're talking about coming from the added systems and components electronic engine management, fuel injection, and the Turbo?
No worries at all, you are correct sir. I don't think the BMW engine is proper for a Bentley. However, at that particular time it was the best option. Unfortunately today, the only British thing about Bentley is the name.
Yes, even though the core of the engine itself is simple, VW complicated the engine with turbos, intercoolers, computers, and other useless junk you see in cars today.
ZF trans....oops! Mismatched wood....oops! Dangerous shifter....oops! Weak head gaskets....oops! Can't use arm rest and cup holder at the same time....oops! Direction of directional signal...oops! You find these cars with like 3k mi/yr and repair records that go on for page after page. Bad engineering, design and construction...little forethought. It's not an issue of poor maintenance; it's an issue of poor quality. But they are beautiful. Years ago a friend bought a new one and allowed me to drive it as soon as it was delivered from the local dealer. Tires weren't balanced, car was grossly out of line and some of the lug nuts were loose. There was an obvious paint defect and a crease in the rear upholstery. Ergonomics were poor and suspension was weak. He sold it after about a year...couldn't keep it out of the shop. He considered himself very lucky to have found a sucker...er..buyer.

Insurance is the same as an S class or 7 series bimmer. You can also get collector insurance on these and ride for pennies. If you are concerned about gangbangers then don't go to gangbanger neighborhoods in a Bentley. Take a chevy 😁
There is only one way to fully experience a Bentley, and that is with the six and three quarter liter V8. I’ve owned 8 Bentley Turbo R’s. My current is a 1997 LWB Bentley Turbo R - 385 Horsepower and 569 ft. Lbs or torque. This machine is a monster. It’s sad to see the lower class BMW garbage in these cars. There’s always a few people who talk about their Mercedes or BMW - Bentley’s are in a league of their own - perhaps not this one with the evident BMW steering wheel, Climate and Radio controls…etc. if you want to be normal - buy a boring S Class or BMW…just like everyone else. It ‘s a sad they ruined this car by placing a very underpowered - underwhelming engine from none other than BMW….there are some things you don’t do - and mixing BMW/Volkswagen parts into a Bentley is not one of then.
