You are correct about the date Roger, the code 9937 is the date code, ie 1999, week 37. On the Candy rating stickers, the first 8 digits of the serial number are not relevant to the date, its the 4 after that, in the format YYWW, so a departure from the old system used from 1967 - 1997 where the code was YMM. Thanks for the mention, yes, indeed I did have to stop doing videos as my health took a turn for the worse, and unable to afford the healthcare costs, I was simply unable to afford to carry on with the vacuum collecting. I wish things could have been different, but I cant ever see myself making a return. I will always try to help or inform others on their machines though, wherever I can.

Much as Hoover had cheapened it, compared to the trash from today, quite solid.

Imagine if fleece bags were around in the 90s. There will always be those who like the instant gratification of seeing captured dirt visible in a container, but the rality is that modern fleece bags offer better dirt capacity, more hygienic floors and less stress on filters than bagless machines. I was presently suprise to see staff using the Numatic Quick to clean the entrance mats and other floors of the Newcastle M&S store the other week.

It’s interesting how various manufacturers named the “maroon” colours they used on their cleaners. In the 1970’s, Eureka called the colour “Brandywine”. Currently, Miele calls their maroon colour “Tayberry Red”!!!

It’s interesting that the chassis was saying it was manufactured in 1992. The chassis on the original Turbopower 2s had a screwed in duct cover. When they changed it to the quick release type, around the time the Turbopower 3 came out, which was 1994/95, the duct cover fitted into the chassis with a little “pip and lip” type affair, like in your video, which wasn’t part of the original chassis. That is odd, then again, anything is possible with Hoover!

When I got my U2107 Turbo 2 from another collector it was pretty much brand new in box like that one was, and it didnt have a roundel on the handle. I dont think the very end of the run actually came with the roundel fitted. I think it was simply cost cutting down to the fact the Turbo 2 was a bargain basemant vacuum at that time with the Purepower being the model that was the latest and greatest. Although, saying that, yours does have the bag check light, which most of them didnt have by the late 90s. The pre-motor filter sponge I was expecting it would crumble to bits in your hand as they all seemed to decompose like that, mine included. Its a nice machine though in the Chambertin red. The U2460 800W version would have also come in Chambertin red also, so it was not the first time that colour was used. The date wheels on the various parts could actually mean the date that part was designed rather than manufactured, as it would be a bit mad to think a machine assembled in 1999 would be made from parts manufactured in 1992.

Oooh I do like a good Turbopower. Second generation wasn’t as pretty as the original, but much more modern in design…
