I had family that were part of the cherokee tribe down in Florida, I wish these guys still used the fight song, keep the song, change the name where people don't hate it
A somewhat different version was regularly played by Hall High School (Little Rock AR) Warrior Marching Band back in the 1960s and early 1970s. At that simpler time, it was still politically acceptable to have a highly regarded drill team named the Cherokees.
that’s crazy, west nassau hs (callahan FL) is also the Warrior Marching Band! We take a lot from FSU (mascot(iffy) colors, our former uniforms, war chant, Seminole uprising, etc.) We use a Cherokee as our fight song that’s designed for us! It starts with Chords, the first quarter of this song, and chords at the end.
I have my degree from IUP. Haven't been to anything IUP-related since they changed from IUP Big Indians to Crimson Hawks. Haven't heard "Crimson Express", but nothing measures up to "Cherokee". Do you mean to tell me that they have dropped it altogether??? For God's sake - political correctness is killing this country!
both degrees from IUP, played football there and bleed crimson and grey so i couldnt put it any better. will not buy anything that says Crimson Hawks or that has that stupid logo. it will always be IUP INDIANS and PC is killing this country
Crimsonindian In my time at IUP was before the crimson hawks and after the Indians, even though it was still unofficial. (98-03) Uh. And campus has completely changed, so...pfft. I'll remember it fondly from my non-digital tangible photographs.
kathy4836 In 2001 they changed it from Indians to the Bears, but kept the mascot named Cherokee so they could still play it, but the NCAA said they would have to change it so in 2007 they became the Crimson Hawks and now here we are.
TheGodlyBuddha Clevenger they were never the IUP Bears, the stupid mascot was a bear but never changed the name from the Indians until they went to the Crimson Hawks in 2007.
I’m looking for the ‘98-‘02 IUP Marching Band CDs. I’ll pay! Or could you share with me via google drive or make copies or a thumb drive? Please! Thank you. ‘02 alumni
@@drift689 I was able to contact the alumni Facebook page and they hooked me up. I love hearing the band. Takes me back to my college days. Thank you though!
+JaySeeKay Used to be, long ago, before the PC Indian name thing became a thing. When I attended, this song was still played (as it had for decades) in the IUP Marching Band, but the Indian mascot had been officially dropped. So we were technically without a mascot for a number of years. Then we had a sideline mascot of a black Bear, named Cherokee. Then at some point after I graduated in 2003, they officially changed IUP's mascot to "Crimson Hawks".
Just found out that when my parents attended IUP, they were the Indians. I had no idea until a little while ago that they've been the Crimson Hawks for like 9 years. This is better than the Crimson Xpress or whatever it is.
