Woulda' been if they showed it, most people were widely just getting used to having a home computer and the dial-up Internet of the time and so many couldn't look it up or be exposed here, but it probably got buried on TV and mainstream magazines to try and keep a pulse on NASCAR @@GoldNargacuga
Instead of the iconic 2JZ-GTE, the Castrol Tom's Supra is powered by the smaller 3S-GTE, the same engine used in the Toyota MR2 GT. The reason is because the 3S-GTE is smaller, lighter, has a lower center of gravity, and it was good enough to handle the power and torque. However, the 3S-GTE could only do so much, and Toyota decided the engine had no more room for improvement. So instead of the 2JZ-GTE, they used a stroked up 3UZ-FE for the Woodone Tom's Supra. It is the 4.3L naturally aspirated V8 used by cars such as the Lexus LS430, but stroked up to 5.2L. The reason of this change was to gain torque in lower rpm. I find it interesting that the JGTC Supras never used the 2JZ-GTE.
I believe it was a weight issue. The uz engines are actually lighter then the jz and maybe the 3s. The 3s I do believe is a 4cyl 2j, the block to the head, and everything is the same just a 4 cyl. And with the power limits I think the uz was the better option. Wasn’t the power limit around 500?
A demon-faced Skyline and the more-or-less demon-faced Supra. They are two beautiful cars. For me this demon-faced Skyline is the most beautiful Skyline ever without a doubt.
Yes you are right. The Gran Turismo series was inspired by JGTC. Most of the special model cars that appeared in the very first game actually competed in JGTC.
yup, my parents still keep my 1/24 scale kit in their home, after 25 years. They are still there. These 2 cars exactly PENNZOIL GTR and TOM SUPRA Japan GT
@@nlsdrf1290 I would choose this toyota with a 3sg, i more love the rb26 as a Nissan fan, but bcoz this is about Toyota, I would choose this one. In 2000, the Toyota used a V8 called 3uz-fe for the gt500 supra from Toyota which definitely sounds better than an inline-4 (source: Wikipedia)
1:06 to 1:07 skyline driver had overtaken the supra. but the skyline driver was just too stupid and made a huge space for the supra to overtake and take the lead again. But on final lap, the skyline managed to be on the lead. That was an epic comeback right there
GT500 cars were restricted to 500BHP at that time, like those FIA GT3s in GT300 were restricted to 295BHP in order to enter the season. You see why DBR9 were so slow thanks to its aerodynamics and tyres. F1 GTR was very competitive thankfully.
