Maria Olaru 🇷🇴 posted the top all-around score during prelims, Team Finals, and of course the AA Final to win the World Title at the 1999 World Gymnastics Championships in Tianjin 🇨🇳--thus becoming the second and Final Romanian gymnast to win this esteemed honor (following in the footsteps of Aurelia Dobre).
But Maria wasn't just your typical stock Romanian gymnast. She had lovely presentation in addition to original and interesting combinations. Even on bars, where her form and technique wasn't the strongest, she still went for unique connections.
I feel during the time Olaru didn't get her flowers, and it's nice to see she is more appreciated nowadays.
I again apologize for having to use the less-than-ideal video quality of her floor from TF, as the "broadcasters" who presented this meet clearly didn't know what they were doing.
