Mr Fitzpatrick I’m Aussie of Irish descent on my grandparents side and I am proud to see this fine body of men upholding the Irish tradition . As Ian Malone from Dublin who was sadly killed in Afghanistan said as a proud Irishman ‘My country gave me freedom to choose and I chose my career with the Irish Guards’ Open your mind and stop repeating those trite (and tripe ) phrases and be really proud to be Irish and of the heritage it has given to the world.

Our drill sergeant, Tony Daniels, Royal Irish Rangers (Ex Skins), used to shout 'Cover Off' before some words of command. I was never sure what the hell he meant...

Did anyone catch the RSM telling the Sgt that he would have to come back after having a shave? Lots of grinning from the "unshaven" Sgt. 😉😉

Why do the senior NCOs march back and forth in front of the Guardsmen,,, Great turnout,,makes us very proud,,,,

They are not NCOs, they are Warrant officers.

It may also be what is not seen. If they are preparing to march off for the Changing of the Guard, there is a band off to the right. Note at 8.10 the officer and parade warrant march off to the right, then there is an edit.
@pbrobotspbrobots1710
@pbrobotspbrobots1710 6 лет назад
the reason is as old as the guards, it dates back to when they used to fight lined up on the battle field, the warrent officers were there to stop anyone from running away.

The officer lets it down a bit. Brandy legged and a bit casual in the march. I bet the senior wo had something to say after.
@MrScall35
@MrScall35 6 лет назад
The WO's are in no better shape themselves. Snappy drill doesn't seem to be a pre-requisite in the Guards these days.
@laurencehirst7814
@laurencehirst7814 6 лет назад
Your quite right!..Not the RSM i'd be worried about though..But if the Colonel saw his performance, and you can bet he did!..That parade officer would have been 'carpeted'' and made to repeat the drill until he got it right to the Colonels satisfaction!
@mikeyoung7660
@mikeyoung7660 3 года назад
You wouldn't have gotten away with any slack drill in the 70's you'd have been bagged for being idol. You would have been spotted right away and done for it. I can remember the RSM pacing out the minutes bagging Guardsmen as he did so. Hat off, off the square straight into the Guardroom. Third man rear rank number two Company bobbing about, lock him up, he'd do the same on the return. It was all sharp in those days.

I’m sure you’re more than just that. Your question seems honestly put and hopefully well-answered. This is the ceremonial side of a British infantry regiment’s duties. They are on-duty, guarding Britain’s Head of State; they can change uniforms and go straight into a combat role with a few hours notice (and do).

@@danielw5850 Thank you Daniel, I just cound,nt really understand what it was in aid of xx
@1977ajax
@1977ajax 2 года назад
@@Sabrina-jn7ts This ceremonial duty and the severe discipline it requires enhances the overall quality of the a Guards, and makes them better soldiers. People often fail to understand that enduring (seemingly purposeless) duties, such as naval recruits spending hours getting their kit in perfect order, instils pride, an instinctive respect for command, and many of the other things military folk are all the better for.

They shouldn't call them Irish guards - theres nothing Irish about them!
@paulfitzpatrick1334
@paulfitzpatrick1334 6 лет назад
Hijacking someone else's culture and symbols doesn't make these Irish Konga - thats just a cultural form of black face thats all. Im sure there are loads of other names they could use or they could appropriate another countries name even - the British Royal family is mostly of German origin so they should call themselves - The German guards, that would be way more appropriate I think
@morsmagne

You write a load of ignorant rubbish. Get yourself a proper education and one day you will grow up and be a man!
@paulfitzpatrick1334
@paulfitzpatrick1334 6 лет назад
The only thing ignorant here is the British state putting their soldiers into a unit that has appropriated the name and symbols of another country and there are people on here who are seeminly ignorant enough to support this. Well just to educate you all - cultural appropriation is a form of racism and racism is ignorance in its purest and most evil form
@paulfitzpatrick1334
@paulfitzpatrick1334 6 лет назад
No they are not, they are British (now who needs educating) - they all hold British passports and are recruited from British cities because it is illegal for the British army to recruit in Ireland (its a foreign country). Less than 1% of them have ever stepped foot in Ireland (they probably couldn't point to Ireland on a map). But lets for argument sake say your right and these are 100% Irish - these are still British army soldiers defending the British state - you still have no right to appropriate another country's culture, name or symbols - British soldiers should use a British name and British symbols and if the British army had any honor whatsoever they would correct this without hesitation.
@MrScall35
@MrScall35 6 лет назад
The vast majority of Irish Guardsmen come from across the island of Ireland. The remainder come from British cities with strong links to Ireland. Many of the guardsmen that come from the Republic of Ireland decide to take the Queen's shilling because of limited places in the Irish Army. They just want to be soldiers. The British flag is irrelevant to them. The regiment was formed and named in honour of the brave Irishmen that fought in the Boer War.
