I'm glad you brought up Bart, I miss the more empathic, sympathetic version of Bart Simpson, now he just seems like a straight up sociopath, when in the old episodes he was just a bratty kid with a good heart deep down
I’ve been laughing since a young child watching the shorts , hope to watch new episodes with grandchildren in the future…love the pot smoking Mayor (Joseph Fitzgerald O'Malley Fitzpatrick O'Donnell The Edge "Joe" Quimby, nicknamed Diamond Joe) Mahalo for the great videos
Watching the simpsons now is like checking in on an old childhood friend you've known as long as you can remember. There's not much going on with him, but it's good to see that he's still around and kicking.
I felt this season 34 was really strong. Not It, Treehouse of Horror 33, Lisa the Boy Scout, and Bartless. Fan-ily Feud Homer's song at the end got me emotional when it cut to older footage. Still had duds like Pin Gal. I been watching for just about my whole life. I cant remember what was my first episode maybe Cape Feare back in 1993. Also love listen to you talk about one of my favorite things in the world.
@@TheSimpsonsTheory You are very welcome. :) And to answer the question of what the first episode of The Simpsons I watched was, it was Treehouse of Horror V :)
It is so strange seeing the contrast. I remember when it first came on the BBC and getting hyped for it (think the first one I saw was the one when they were in the woods)
I’ve been watching since they appeared on the Tracey Ullman Show. Is all of it perfect? No. Do I love it all? Yes. Thanks for the seriously awesome Simpsons content.❤
I love the first episode of The Simpsons. When I was growing up, I related to Bart and Lisa, making a wishlist and wanting certain toys from Santa, but as an adult, Homer really touched my heart. It reminds me of my dad whom worked very hard to make sure I had a good holidays every year. At the time I didn’t see it as a child but as an adult I really appreciate how much he did for the family. Even down to bringing us home a puppy on a rainy day, which he found all alone on the street that we later adopted. My dad passed on many years ago but everytime I watch this ep, I get a little teary eye and remember him. ♥️ I’m so glad I found your channel. You are awesome!
I find it really hard to believe that The Simpsons is still going on 34 years later. Sure it's not in it's prime anymore, but the fact we are talking about an on going animated TV show dating it's first episode all the way back in 1989, to their most recent episode over a month ago, is very amazing. I hope they can get to 40 years soon! Just 5 more years to go!
There is Uter in the Opening! And he isn't listed as missing! This means that there is maybe more to tell about him since we lost him in season 6 or have eaten him on helloween.
@@jabber1990you are probably right. Many have noted it is a better first episode than the orignal first episode "some enchanted evening" due to having a lot of the important characters, solidified designs and concepts and starts the series were the simpsons get Santa's little helpher and the series becomes whole.
Same, I absolutely love the animation from that couch gag! It came from my favorite era animation-wise--season 5 had some of the wackiest, but most fun character designs/animation!
Though weird, I still enjoyed the 750th episode! Not just because it got to see a little bit more of Marge's father, but also the funny Easter eggs that were sprinkled throughout the episode( including you!❤). I also agree The Simpsons writing has greatly improved and feel like the writers are fans of the work, instead of writing it for a paycheck. As for Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire, I always look at it as a classic Christmas special as I do with Garfield and The Grinch every year!❤🎉
Agree. Plus, I would like to give thanks to Lydia about the pros and cons of current Simspon episodes in her videos. My favourite is A Serious Flanders, which shows how good the writers can be sometimes and the choice of music. Personally, I don't mind coming back for the Simpson, which includes some season, same with Futurama, and then Family Guys.
I believe Rough Draft Seoul is the animation house that does the Simpsons. Rough Draft understood the assignment and has done a great job at keeping The Simpsons and all of it's other clients looking spectacular for three decades.
I kinda love the 750th episode's opening, as it lets you know just how far the show has come (it's a shame they left out the bus stop passengers from the old opening but they may still be here). It was nice to see Apu again too. I've never thought him offensive, but it's sad to see the show want to remove my favourite of the many stereotypical characters. His octuplets are still adorable too, so it's nice to see them again. I also noticed that the Winfields were in the poster; their first appearance in ages, and that Maude got to be temporarily ressurected for one last time.
My first Simpsons episode is kind of interesting, because I didn't have cable growing up. It was either Natural Born Kissers (I remember being surprised at the nudity in that one) or Future-Drama. (My cousin wanted to explain "seperated" in the context of the episode to me.)
About the digital animation. According to a dvd commentaty for one of the episodes (don't remember which one) The producers actually fought for doing the animation the old fashion way (pencil on paper) But in the end they had to admit to themselves that there weren't any animators left who would do the animation the old fashion way since everyone had switched over to digital at that point.
My parents didn't let me watch the Simpsons until I was 13. I still remember the episode they played on my birthday, it was the one where Marge took a moral stand against Itchy and Scratchy for being too violent. I also remember that a new episode aired shortly afterwards where Springfield legalized gay marriage that for some reason they didn't let me watch.
I’d like to see them go the Action Comics 1000 approach and make it a feature length special, make it a sequel or make it an interquel and show us Santa’s Little Helper’s P.O.V up to his adoption by the Simpsons.
Occasionally go back to watch the old ones. Uk only have up to season 33. so we go back and watch them all again 😊 The old seasons are fun. Like all the episodes except for the odd couple
Jesus... I can't remember...lol Being a year older than the Simpsons, I somehow remember catching almost every episode in the 90's. But the episodes Pixelated and afraid, boy scouts n the hood, and the tree house of horrors were great and told me someone in the writing team gave a crap about story and humor. But now a days, if I miss an episode... I don't lose sleep over it.
The first episode I watched was the first episode. I had heard kids in elementary school talking about the Tracy Ullman shorts, then I saw in the TV Guide that they were showing a Christmas special. I didn't find out until about 10 years later, when I got the internet, that it was the first episode.
I've been watching since the shorts that ran on the Tracey Ulman Show back in the day! Although I am a bit biased as that I always prefer the older seasons.... Keep up the great work! I love your content! 👏🏻👍🏻
Good analysis as always, I think my first episode was Tree House of Horrors 99 but I am not sure. I was in 8th grade that I am certain of. I think the show has great moments throughout but also with transitional periods where they had to find their footing again. Anything that last 33 years is going to have to recreate itself sometimes. :)
Although the Christmas episode was the first episode that aired, it was originally supposed to be "Some Enchanted Evening" but was switched with "Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire" because the animation was not up to snuff.
I get why she went with the Christmas episode rather than the first true episode in production. It was the audience's introduction to the characters in a half hour format, and we wouldn't know about the actual first episode for decades. Though, it would be a weirder episode to draw comparison to as it really seems furthest from what we could have expected from the series with that whole kidnapping and robbery plot.
Thanks Lydia, the first episode I have seen from the Simpsons that I remember was the pilot on Fox on Christmas Eve or the Springfield files. My mom’s cousins introduced the series to me and my older brother.
The first ever episode that I watched was the "1st Episode" does not mean I'm old it just me I saw it on DVD or a rerun on tv. Probably after school; just before The News was on at around 6:30pm. I probably have nostalgia for the old seasons and I have seen the newer seasons here and there, thought it was pretty okay, not bad actually. I mean everyone got opinions and that's okay. It is amazing how far The Simpsons has come, just incredible :) Great Video!!! :)

I dont know what to comment to be honest so I'm gonna leave one of my favorite mr burns moments here: Homer: I think I won sir. Mr burns: you won alright...you won more than you bargained for. Homer: WOOHOO
I honestly saw the plot synopsis for Homers Adventure through the windshield glass and was really hopeful if done right it could have been great, however I completely agree with you it didn’t land at all for me
1:34 there is a colombian channel called max power, he made a one hour video identifying every character that shows in the opening. (he also made a second video identifying some characters that in the first round he coundn't)
I read a theory that one reason the Simpsons was able to stay for so long is the fact the first episode was a one-off Christmas special.....so they could get away with more that they'll never have to touch up on
I'll say at least the 750th episode felt more like a milestone/anniversary than at least most of the others. Was the one where they were run out of town a milestone? I forgot. Certainly feels more like a non-standard celebratory episode than the one with Ray Romano as the not imaginary friend, which feels like it could just be any episode at the time. The episode is a dive into Homer as a character and gives us a bit of lore outside of the regular episodes. I'd say for direct episode to episode comparison is The Mysterious Voyage of Homer. A surrealist/fantasy sequence journey of Homer's character and his relationship and marriage with Marge. And props for the necromancers in the animation department that brought Little Richard back to life for that couch gag.
(1:38) Me: (looking around to see if I can identify all the characters) Also me: (sees someone in the tree) wait a minute… *pauses the video * what is that? Me realizing who it is: Oh mah gawd…what IS that? WHAT IS THAT??? The amount of characters and celebrity cameos they animated in the opening is insane-
I was there, man. That first episode. Because Im ancient, I guess (how do I have such clear memories from that long ago?!) The first episode of this show was formative. It was an Event. Its hard to over-state how ubiquitous this show became. People literally stopped going to malls because literally every store had a window full of Simpsons merchandise (I emphatically use “literally” more than once to emphasize that I speak the truth). I cant stress just how much *everybody* was talking about this show. Im not a *million* years old; i was still in school at the time. So this show also taught me a social skill: I was fluent in The Simpsons, so I could talk to just about anybody. It was common ground. As an adult, I have actively added that into my repertoire of Techniques For Navigating Human Existence (tm). I can maintain an elevator conversation because I dip into everything, and my neurodivergent nonsense wont slip in. If you keep your eyes and ears open, you can know what people are watching. Theyre all watching something. I was there for the first episode of The Simpsons. It was so obviously impactful that our class put a picture of them (a TV Guide cover, iirc) in a time capsule our school made. And you know what? I was there for episode 750 too. And I was there for everything in between. Should circumstances work in our favor, I will be there for 1000, 2000, whatever - I will watch every episode. Why? Because most of them still get an actual laugh-out-loud moment from me, even now, 30+ years in. Of COURSE its not as good as when it was new and/or Conan and his ilk were writing. Its a fundamentally different show and it occupies a spot in culture that nothing else comes close to. You ever read the bible? Or, to be more contemporary, watch Seinfeld? There are phrases and words in there that we use every day. They created idiomatic expressions that we dont even notice any more. If you are talking to people for a few hours, like at a Party or whatever Normal people Do, youll hear a phrase from one of these sources, guaranteed. So.. My feelings on The Simpsons? I love the show and the family, and I dont agree with anyone who says its no longer a good show and hasnt been for 25 years. Like..bugger off. This is a show that has had outlandish plot lines and other such things….but hasn’t your family…? Granted none of the people I know have gone into space or whatever… but, like, what if they did? Thats why we have tv shows, especially animated shows. I think they’ve stayed true to character if you compare them to the “golden years” of the show. The first episode isnt a fair comparison, imo. It could’ve easily been live action. It was realistic. The same is true for about half of the first season. So its not a one-to-one. What *really* impressed me when I started a rewatch of the show from the beginning was how much of the characters/tone/world was present at such an early time. Even ancillary characters…like, id see them in the third episode (or whatever) and be like “omg, *comic book guy* has been there since the beginning?!” Tldr, I love The Simpsons today and still laugh at every episode as much as i did 35 years ago on Ullman, and Im happy to die on this hill as long as they keep putting out episodes that make the fight sensible. This “is it late Friday Night or early Saturday Morning, you lunatic” comment has been brought to you by Dr. Nick’s Discount LASIK: “we legally have to say ‘discount’!” (Holy **** - that time capsule was opened! It was for 25 or 30 years, idr, but both those times are gone…… i wonder how it went….)
Good job Miss Lydia as always. You know I have an idea of where the Simpsons should go in the near future. And maybe you have some pull. They should just modernize the characters to their natural ages 30 years into the future. We all love the future episodes. They should just do an entire season like that. And maybe sadly the last season. But it will be a huge romp if they do something like that. And again good job on the video thank you Lydia.

I jsut finsihed watching all yhe epsidoes of Simpsons yhat disney + has, and being a lizzo fan, been excited to see this ep because.. well, Simpsons jsut brings me some kind of comfort! I love yhe old episodes and theri mature themes, and while the newer onws can be random, they fo have some gems that remind me of the old epsidoes, sich as the one about Lisa and Marge and how certains words had long lasting effects on their mental health. It isnt as frequent, but for me, i guess it isnt a big deal. I like the random, and it feels rewarding when after you watch strange ass eps and then get a sweet episode after. I like learning how the characters develop to new generation things, and i like it shows care into what they wanna talk about. And honestly? While i do hope they let celebs come on the show to voice a different character like lizzo did for the toy, i dont mind seeing them as themselves either. It shows they can poke fun at themselves, and especially if they where fans of it, it must feel amazing to see yourself in the Simpsons world. It reminds me of people who loved a cartoon character and now they get to make music and appear in music videos with said character and company (ex the sonic movies and their end credit songs) I think it has potential, and im excited to see the new eps when i can and maybe even rewatch everything again sometime!
I enjoyed #750, but it wasn't anywhere neat the quality of episode #1 that I watched for the first time all the way back in December of 1989. The best Simpsons stories are the simplest ones. The heart-warming ones. The grounded ones. Today's are more convoluted and not really grounded any more. Interesting comparison, though. And I really enjoyed the video.

I have no idea what the first episode if the simpsons i ever watched was. I was born in 1990 and as far back as i can remember i was watching this show.
Homer hallucinating his way to realising he needs to treat Marge better with a non human voiced by a famous guest star guiding him there has been done before. Go back and watch the episode where Johnny cash plays the coyote. I’ve not seen the 750th episode and I do love Lizzo but it doesn’t sound like their best work from what you’ve said here. Edit: it wasn’t a fix it was a coyote he played apparently 😂. Memory letting me down in my old age.
