Finally, this is the kind of vehicle restoration I like to see. No, it isn't pretty or easy but nothing worth having is. Look at the bright side, you don't have to scrub for surgery like you use to before working on the blazer! That would take all the fun out of the project!! Thank you Dr. Lee for doing this series!

Dr Lee you had me at the carburetor toss. 😂 Brand new factory lemon Malibu from Chevrolet. My husband was a mechanic. I argued "put a rebuilt carb on here and call it a day". Nope. He wasnt doing it. More than 15 starters, I dont know how many tows - none cheaper than $80, not to mention me getting stranded in a very bad area (my work) ....once in a bona fide blizzard. 1978 Cleveland, Ohio. The car would not start under 70°. I sold the car with 28,000 miles on it for $1400. I told the guy about the starters. He was a mechanic too but not such a hard head. He replaced the carb before he ever gave it to his wife and she drove that thing into the ground. And my husband? Well that wasnt the only stubborn thing he ever did....

My friend, I have to admit I really enjoyed this vid...You'll have hours of fun! You might even get grandson Lincoln interested in doing a bit of Wrenching with you! My first "my very own" car was a 1948 De Soto Deluxe. I had it for a full year, put 600 miles or so on it and never left the driveway with it...But I had a GREAT time working on it in my "spare" time! And that old beast was a GREAT teacher and my knuckles had scars for years to prove it! My dad would not let me drive it on the street unless I had insurance on it so when it needed gas I would walk to the gas station get 5 gallons of gas and walk back home to gas up my "hot rod"....I'm going to enjoy this series, and my hands won't get grimy or scarred !

Started it up a couple weeks ago and it shuddered dreadfully. Had it towed to my mechanic. Trespassing, squatter squirrels built a castle in my engine. In 2011 Toyota tried out a new wiring cover system made out of soy beans!😮😮😮 That squatter castle cost $1272.00! When I got it home used my air compressor to blow out the engine really good. All this time was thinking of your woodland mess under your Blazer hood. Feel for you Doctor! I do feel your pain👍👍

LOL I remember that... I bought a 1970 C10 a few years back. On a quite Texas night you could hear it rusting... It was meant as just a hunting truck, so I ignored the rust the best I could. I had the engine rebuilt, rewired the entire truck, replaced all of the lights, and after about $2000 I had a working running hog hunting truck, that did it's job. I turned around and sold it for 3 times my investment, because a guy just couldn't live without it... then I bought what I really wanted...

I applaud your vigor into diving in. I to learned the hard way as my high school car that hadn’t run since the late 80’s had a cowl issue. I repaired it from the inside and found the permanent version of flex seal, eternabond. I made a plexiglass plug and filled the hole. Then sealed it with eternabond. Supposedly eternabond is for sealing roofing and has a 15yr warranty against UV. I hope to test out that warranty as after almost three years of work my basket case car is back on the road. Keep up the good work. It will be on the road in no time. :)

A man with a decent skill set like you have does not need to read about the scary parts that should make others run from it. Probably the exact reason why you only did that afterwards. If one has to pay somebody else to do the work: running it is. For us car people it is an opportunity to make it better the right way. New panels instead of patching up. Makes for good content also. Great to see the results of previous hack jobs going out, gotta love the feeling of a fresh start. Also, great energy towards that carb haha! Inspiring watching the head mechanic hard at work, he seems to be good at taking a look from different angles.

@OutontheRanchWithDrLee--, I think it's that Matt is his father's son, because when you got to the dire warnings and then said so you did the right thing and bought $2,000 worth of sheet metal, it made me laugh out loud. And we can see where Matt got it from.

I had to laugh at your Holley carburetor fix! My husband did something very similar long ago, you brought back a really good laugh for me. I also love the veterinary reference to "big enough for a cat to go through"! I must say, no restoration like this one, is for the faint of heart. Keep the faith! Peace...

I know it will turn out great because you have the best assistant. If I lived anywhere near Boerne you bet I would love to come and help.
