Glad you got it sorted, MOTs are stressful but it helps when you find a garage that is helpful and not just fail you and send you away. We’ve been using the same garage for all our vehicles for years and he bends over backwards to sort things out and get you sorted. Looks like you’ve found a good garage now. Good luck with the wedding and happy travels when you get out again.👍
Thank you we will definitely be going back to cvt it’s a great garage it’s piece of mind when you know where to take a vehicle and it gets sorted isn’t it 👍👍
@@RobandLynnontour Your routine "maintainer" let you down badly with that handbrake problem. You need to look elsewhere. Three year old vehicles should not fail on such a basic item.
Main dealers are the last place you go, the person doing the work is just an employee of whatever national garage chain it happens to be , and really doesn't give a toss about you or your vehicle . The independent garage however knows his livelihood depends on good will and word of mouth recommendations , ( as in this case) .
@@RobandLynnontour Main Dealerships are definitely the worst places to go: If they find nothing wrong....they will invent things. I Know. I have covered many vehicles that have had major problems declared by MD's..... here, where I retired to: Unbelievable some of the stories I could tell. Yes...their overheads are higher: I get that..... But inventing "problems" and charging the earth.... That is plain theft. (Many moons ago, in another life.... I had a small back street garage in the UK..... I had a dedicated customer base that simply grew and grew: Because I was honest.)
@@bobgorman9481 Spot on. Sadly, in the 60's and 70's many "back-street-garages" got a bad press ...at the behest of the manufacturers manipulating the MSM of the day. For advertising revenue.
My VW main dealer failed on the handbrake , Air-con issues , suspension and breaking fluid changes......simply lost faith in them. Started using independents and find myself paying half the price with a car that drives like it should with MOT's with no advisories. Great vlog guys 👍
Hi Rob and Lynn, glad you got it all sorted and motd, those Alko rear axle beams need maintenance I.e greased up as part of the servicing, the amount of garages that don’t grease them up is shocking, seen it happen, and if they seize up it’s a total nightmare 🤦🏻♂️, anyway you’ll be ok and your video will make other motorhomers with that type of rear axle be aware of it, who might not know, Cheers 🍻😎.
What a bummer of a day but some good things came out of it: 1 - you found a good company and they are worth their weight in gold 2 - you got a good 👀 underneath 3 - imagine the cost if you had gone to a main dealer Still a bummer though. Getting excited for the meet up x Rachel & David
Yes definitely, we came out smiling in the end Still a bit stressful but all sorted Can’t wait for our meet up, just need to get our daughters wedding done then we can confront it
Rob said before but airbags are a must proper stop you grounding out and a much better drive and stops all rattles and bangs too. Love a good old bag lol. Glad you got sorted.
Hi There Rob Lynn and Doggies, Hope you are All well , WOW the bus passed , Thats Great News , And what a nice Helpful company you found , 🏆, All Looks Great , so Thanks for Sharing , Take care , Have a nice Time at the wedding , XX💒🌞☀🌞👍👍👍👍👍👍
Gutted you wouldn’t expect it to fail as it’s only 3 years old we got Fiat ducato swift life style black edition think it’s 696 only had it 3 weeks we love it but I hate mot day we got the motor home minibus and small car but always a worry on mot day sounds like you found good garage to use 👍🏽👍🏽
We were gutted luckily they sorted it out for us Hope you have as much enjoyment out of it as we do We also hate Mot days they are always stressful and yes we did 😊😊
@@RobandLynnontour am sure we will got a fair amount of holidays booked up as had holidays to use at work so booked 9 days kent cost 9 days north or south wales then we got another 9 days by not sure where yet but excited for it 😀😀glad you sorted it and have lovley time when you go 👍🏽👍🏽
Brilliant video again 👍🏻you forgot to mention at the end of the narrow boat competition if you’re watching this on Rob and Lynn on tour +1 channel lines maybe closed 🤪😂👊🏻👍🏻👍🏻
We have our first MOT this month to 😂 and we just had to put two front tyres on 😢. MOT in a weeks or two. We’ll see you at Somerswood , Karina and Jules Ingham are great you’ll like them we’re sure. See you soon Helen and Martin.
Good luck with your MOT, we couldn’t believe it when it came back, failed, they do t have anything to do with it, the computer takes the readings and the gov agency spit a letter out 🙈😳😳 Really looking forward to it See you both soon 😊😊
Strangely enough we had ours done there after Peugeot main dealer Birmingham let us down (despite knowing we were 8m they failed to fit it on their ramps and only let us know 3 hrs after returning home in one of their courtesy cars!). It was the day before mot was due to expire (booked in for weeks). Scramble back to Birmingham then on to Brierley Hill where CVT fit us in same day. It didn't fail but we had a handbrake issue too. We returned for the service a couple of weeks later. They were very reasonable and knowledgeable. Also strangely enough this was on the way back from Buxton and we had been pitched near you at the c&mc!
He's shocked that a garage didn't do a good job with a service! I am surprised when I find a garage that actually does do a good job. Most do the minimum and charge the maximum.
Well absolutely gutted for you and what cracking garage you chose there ain’t many like that I know…you’re having my luck Rob I’ve bored with my problems on our truck 😂 now I’m listening to yours what was the oil leak after xx
Booked our 3 year old Moho in for service and mot and garage said they could not log on to carry out mot because it’s not due one until it’s 4 years old. Gov web site confirmed this. Apparently it because it’s a habitation vehicle.
Hi 👋🏻 Rob and Lynn I am sorry that happens, but glad it got all sorted in a day.. Very disappointing when you put your faith and $$ into services and they are not done properly. You are on the right track now though. Silly Aussie me I don’t know what is the difference with a MOT and a Habitation check😅 We have to get a “ pink slip “ they call it each year if vehicle is over 5 years then pay registration.. All the very best again for your Daughters wedding 💒 Lots of love ❤️ 💜💜💜❌❌
Hi vicki a mot is checking the vehicle it’s self such as brakes etc the hab check it the caravan part of the van they check for damp and the appliances ext 👍👍thank you for your comment as always
Held my breath for a minute 😂thought rob was going to say you need arm bands but your already wearing your rubber ring 😂that sums robs up to a t 😂 .... Or is it Ron 😂 private joke ❤happy holidays
Hello Lynn and Rob. Rob in NZ a motorhome weighing over 3500kg is required every 6 months to have a COF (certificate of fitness) inspection which costs between $150 - $250 NZ. I hope the wedding goes to plan and Rob behaves himself.
Hi David every day is a school day as they say I didn’t know that so I bet the most popular vans are 3500kg ? I’ll try and behave myself 😂😂 thank you for your comment
Glad it passed in the end. Looks a great garage. The problem with the greasing of the axle it won’t be on the fiat worksheet because it’s an alko chassis not Fiat,so should it be done on the habitation service? What did they say about the oil leak? 👍
Well it’s never been done it actually took a whole tube of grease 😳 We have got to take it back on a month or so to monitor it, he did say it’s nothing to be concerned about We will see
We thought someone had left it off ours, but we found out that they dont fit them because of the heat from the engine on some models. A good job too, as we found an oil leak from the drive shaft on our new motorhome. If it had had a cover on we wouldn't have seen the leak.
@@RobandLynnontour we were taking the merc to France did 220 miles on way to tunnel then got message to say engine wouldnt start again in 450 miles. Rang garages but no stock so drove back home and swapped cars to Volvo.
Result , sorted for the next 12 months ( or is it 2 years now ?? ) :-) Glad it was not anything major ! Nice to find small companies that go out of their way to help, well done CVT. Now the question is, is it up for sale and a new van on the horizon ??? 🙂
If you look at the Fiat service work schedule you will see for the money you pay you get very little done. Oil change and filters. I appreciate you are miles from Portsmouth but Adam Morley are Fiat Proffessional but also have a expertise around service of motorhome and the chassis that they are built upon. So when it comes to greasing various points these are checked and serviced. Over the years the advice given for work carried out outside the service schedule have saved many MH owners thousands in repair costs. An example the Clutch fluid change and calibration on the Fiat Comformatic gearbox Fiat state every two years change fluid. Many Fiat dealers skip this and do not recalibrate. Adam Morley advise yearly as the gearbox needs regular change and calibration. Just an example of finding a service garage that knows what needs doing and can be trusted. I have owned a MH for 15 years and have the oil changed every year for peace of mind. These vehicle can sit around for periods of time not driven so can go bad. Re the oil leak Ducato have a history of the sump seal going after three/ four years. So have the seal changed at next service Keep up your fun channel. Many go off the boil after a year or so and change what the post thus change what you set out to be
Thank you so much for that. That is brilliant to know, we will definitely take it on board, We will also get the seal changed too So glad you are still e your channel, the reason it hasn’t changed is it’s us, and we are too old to change 😊😊😊
Handbrake major defect!!!!! I hear you say. Lynn what do you use when you park up??? To make sure your vehicle is still there when you get back??? Handbrake 🤣😂🤣😂 and if all your hydraulic brake system fails you can still slow down and stop using the handbrake because it uses a cable....
Hi Rob Lynn we only Pay 40 Pound for the MOT up in Yorkshire that is a Lot of cash good Luck With the van we are still at East Fleet camp its very Windy But sunny we came Round to see you on Monday but you Had Left Dave
Forget main dealers(most of them are cowboys) they are more interested in selling cars than looking after them. I would be concerned about those joints running dry and potential damage already done..and therefore i report them or complain to their head office. Also, did you het the oil leak sorted?
Yes we totally agree, we’ve had the joints checked and luckily now damage has been incurred, we aren’t sure who it lies with, some are saying hab check and some are saying service, Oh and not yet but it’s booked in
hes adjusted that handbrake incorrectly... it shouldnt be adjusted at the rear wheels as its a preset distance, it should be done at the the front lever cable as set out by manufacturer, that handbrake will diminish again over the coming weeks as it slowly bends the mount on the seat and that would still be under dealer warranty
Hi we are very happy we found cvt great people positive feedback we would recommend them highly handbrake should definitely be included in the service 👍thank you for your comment
That's another job that didn't get done on the Service! The wheel Caliper and Bracket needs to come off to SEE the condition of the Parkbrake shoes! Ours had never been off and it's a 2008 Model, I did it last year! They just did a quickie for you to get it through the MOT! I would have thought you would notice the Handbrake not that great if using Ramps on a Campsite?? Also the Headlight Aim should have been checked on the Services too!
Apparently not on a 3year old van, but we will get it checked next year. Honestly we knew it wasn’t brilliant but we didn’t realise it was that bad as it did the job when on ramps etc
We don’t either, so much better to find a good independent garage who you can trust oh and we bought them from the NEC show last year but you can get them off eBay
Unfortunately you can’t go back to the original garage and complain as they will insist that it was all checked correctly when they sold it.😡. At least you managed to find a professional garage that excels in providing Customer Service.
Yes it really is unfortunate, but, like you said we’ve found an exceptional garage, which we 100% endorse. Very professional and we will continue to use through our motorhome life
Rather surprised that a three year-old vehicle had not "Self-Adjusted" its handbrake mechanism and required adjusting manually.....despite the PDI and subsequent servicing over the three years. It's a sad reflection on most garages that they simply do not follow the full procedures when they are charging top-dollar for routine service work. Then complain that "Joe Public" does not understand the problems garages have. It's simple: Do the work for a fair price. You have a customer for life. Main dealers where I live are the worst offenders. Inventing expensive remedial work yet ignoring the basics ....like handbrake adjustment. Criminal in my book.
Hi you are absolutely correct 👍 since the experience with the handbrake I have learnt a lot myself about maintaining our motor home instead of paying through the nose all the time 👍 thank you so much for your comment it’s appreciated 👍
I have never heard such a drama before about a bloody handbrake. Learn something about mechanics and learn to do these things for yourself. I had a 95 Fiat Ducato 1.9 Tdi Motorhome took it for four Mot's before I sold it without any issues., because I would check all the obvious stuff that might fail it beforehand. No one touched it apart from me to do any work, such as full engine service, new alternator, new timing belt new front cross member replaced
In my experience the so called Fiat Professional approved garages are a disgrace or worse and put me of Fiat for life!! 😔😔😔 Looking forward to the stupidity subsiding and then hopefully introducing a new Carthago on a Mercedes... but even then they're not great 🤣😢
We totally agree, but when it’s under warranty it’s what we had to do, but no more ! I honestly think the prices are starting to come down, but o don’t think they will ever get back to where they should be
@RobandLynnontour Absolutely... I fully agree and indeed support! Sadly, the majority of UK business has become addicted to profit and forgot about any service .... but hey, we have become great scalpers 😏😔 😔😔🥰
As i understand it , greasing the axle is not part of a service unless specified . You are not the first i've heard of , have this happen , and the truth is , i doubt you will be the last . Sorry .
@@RobandLynnontour Gotta admit , i first heard about this one , some time ago on a forum . Their situation was worst , as it was several years old and had suffered accelerated wear . I didn't pay much attention , as i've got an old Hymer on a standard Fiat chassis , and do most of my own work . I don't plan on replacing it .
@@RobandLynnontour And man will you see those bills come down . I guessing it's a Fiat under the covers , they're not easy to work on , and space is certainly at a premium , but an oil change to me is about 35 quid , filter and high quality oil included . But the real premium is you know the jobs being done , properly .. Oh and handbrake . Yeah loads are getting caught with that one . Tip here , use fishing scales to get balanced braking .
